Is there a way to upload another rider's ride to my Garmin device?
I sometimes see rides that I would like to try- is there a way to send it directly to my Garmin Edge as a "course" like I can from connect.garmin.com?
Thank you.

Stay tuned.

I would love to know how you are getting on with this one? I know you have a lot of features you want to include, but this one for me would be a real +.
Thanks

Hi Drew,
Thanks for checking in. Exporting rides is still on our list, but its getting more requests so we'll most likely get around to it soon. Thanks for your patience!

It would be good to be able to select which of the files for that route to load. That's so the virtual partner is better matched to one's abilities or goals.

Yes, good suggestion. I'm thinking you mean that from a pool of files from the same ride, you could pick out the best match? I'll pass it along!

Hi, not to put pressure but I am also looking forward to this feature. I used it many times on connect.garmin...
Keep up the good work! And also looking forward to your iPhone app!

Yes, a lot of very cool things coming - plenty to keep us all busy.
Downloading rides to your garmin is definitely on our radar. We will get to it.
Stay tuned for the iPhone app....

I too would like this instead of leaving the Strava website to get this on connect.garmin.

Hi all,
I made a web tool that does a pretty basic job of this:
http://cosmocatalano.com/strava-gpx-export/
You enter a strava URL, it creates a GPX file for you. Upload that to your Garmin, and you should be all set.

Any updates on this? I'm holding out on buying a membership until I know I have this capability.

Hi Will,
Did you check out Cosmo's web tool that he built? I hear its pretty awesome, and will fill up the time until we come out with the feature ourselves.
Thanks for your patience,
Elle

What is the latest on downloading routes? I see it's been on the radar for some time now. This would be priority one for me and probably most of us. Please let us know if this is going to happen.

Hi Rod,
We now have an "Export to GPX" feature for your activities built into Strava from the Actions menu.
Thanks for your patience!
Best,
Elle

Hello Elle
I'm sorry but is there a way I can get another riders route on my Garmin 500
edge? Please advise.
Rod

I have exported rides from Strava and made courses out of them by:-
1. Open the ride.
2. Go to ACTIONS and click Export GPX to your computer (remember the location)
3. Load Garmin Base Camp.
4. Import the GPX file into Basecamp. This will create a track.
5. Convert the track into a route.
6. Send the route to your Garmin Device (it needs to be a .fit file).
It worked on a number of occassions for me.
The tricky bit was making sure Basecamp was "sending" it as a .fit file and not a .gpx file.

Hi Richard,
This is excellent, thanks for passing along your findings.

The Strava literature indicate you can drop the exported .gpx file into the Garmin/NewFiles folder. My Garmin 500 doesn't seem to convert it to a course and it just seems to reside in that folder.
Any suggestions?

Hi Patrick,
Use Garmin Basecamp (see my comment above) it works perfectly.
You can download Basecamp for free from Garmin URL http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435

Hi Patrick,
I hope Richard's suggestion helped! I believe the file does have to be in a specific format to put onto your Garmin. I will check the owners manual and update the literature so that it is more correct.
Best,
Elle

Hi and thanks Richard and Elle,
I'll try out Basecamp. I'd been trying to use TrailRunnerX and doing some
conversions with it with moderate success.
On a side note that really has nothing to do with Strava, it's unfortunate
how each program and environment creates incompatibilities for the need of
converters. Kind of like video codecs, but this should be much
simpler...it's XML!
With Strava's usage of the Garmin Plugin making for easy upload of
activities, could that mean we may see download capabilities in the future?
This could alleviate a great deal of user interaction and provide for a
really nice experience. Like an item in the action menu that simply says
"Send to device as course." Then your garmin beeps and things happen and
presto, a new course on the Garmin ready to go.
Thanks all!

Hey Patrick,
Thanks for the suggestion. I agree that all the different file types really just complicate matters, and I wish there were a simple solution. As far as the mapping functionality you suggested, I don't know know if that's exactly in the plans, but it's a great idea. We're exploring similar features and I'll be sure to pass your ideas along to the team.
Cheers,
Travis
