Elevation Gain issues with U.S. Elevation correction services
If your activities show zero elevation or elevation that is incorrect, we may be experiencing connection issues with our U.S. Elevation Correction service. This will also cause Watts and Calories to be unable to calculate (U.S. only)
To troubleshoot, click on the "Elevation(?)" link below the elevation number on your activity page, and click "lookup". After a few minutes your elevation should be corrected. If this does not work, we may be experiencing connection issues to the Elevation database servers. We will fix this problem as soon as we can.
In the U.S. we correct the Elevation for activities recorded with all non-barometric altimeter GPS devices. These include iPhone and Android phones using the Strava App, Garmin Forerunner Devices, Garmin 200 and any manually uploaded files with unknown device origin.
To correct elevation we use the data from the USGS U.S. Elevation database - only in the US for now.
Elevation correction is necessary for:
- Strava Watt estimations - Calories - Eligibility in the Studio
Velo KOM Competition - Grade Adjusted Pace (GAP)
For international users outside the U.S. GPS devices with barometric altimeters are needed for Watt and Calorie calculations because we don't have an accurate enough elevation service for the whole world at this time.
