  • Thanks for the heads up Christoph - but the 'Elliptical' that has been added is not a Ride SUB-TYPE - it's a top level activity type - i.e. Elliptical Machine in the gym. So no good for me.

Even if they did add Elliptical as a Ride SUB-TYPE then they still need to add better support for sub-types - both for filtering leaderboards - but more importantly for me and lots of others - in the create club dialog - i.e. create a 'Ride/Cycling' club [note they don't even use the same terminology - it should be RIde not Cycling to match Ride in activity type) THEN add a sub-type which you can leave blank so that it would count ALL ride types - or select MTB / Road / Elliptical if you only want to count those rides in your club.

Come on Strava - its a well thought out suggestion which is backwards compatible with all current features and data and clubs.

  • I'd like to see more tagging options (e.g. race, TT, MTB etc) and then have an option to filter for specific tags within a club. I have a winter turbo time trial club, the problem is that all of the rides by each member shows up, and we only want to see the turbo / rollers sessions. This will make the club function far more meaningful than it is now, which is simply gathering a bunch of riders from an already existing club which probably has its own website / facebook page with results already recorded. i.e. pretty pointless.

  • And while we're at it (as clearly some strava users are ) can we add motorcycle and passenger car to the ride types! :)

  • Regarding e-bikes, in Australia - and most of Europe? - the law is that the assistance must stop at 25km/h. That is, be fully turned off. So if you're doing any segments where the minimum speed is greater than 25km/h, the e-bike system (motor & battery) is only dead weight and only factors in as an extra challenge. One could argue then that the benefit of "fresh legs" might let you achieve higher speeds, however seeing how some people hunt down segments anyway by resting, waiting for perfect tail wind etc that seems a bit moot.

It'd be good if you could in your bike setup specify that bike has electrical assistance up to a certain speed, and implement a rule to eliminate it from any segment scores where the speed dips to that speed.

With my workplace moving locations, I'm currently looking at doing a BionX conversion of my 14kg 2014 Trek Crossrip LTD so as to make a projected 80km daily commute easier on the body whilst getting more fit. The alternative for me is buying a motorbike, or another car, or find another job.

Personally, I only use Strava to track my own mileage and my own PBs. I really don't care about what other people do anymore - it's become so polluted as to be worthless. However I respect that my own rides will show up for other people, unless I mark as private - which I tend to do now with most of my commutes. There's a gap here in that you cannot default all activities to private so Strava's recommendation of making e-bike assisted segments private doesn't quite work.

  • Clearly the people at Strava do not care about what the users want. They sure are happy to take our premium membership $$ though. I find it extremely frustrating that this request was made almost 2 1/2 years ago, by Numerous people, who need different bikes added. Its absolutely ridiculous that the people at Strava simply WILL NOT LISTEN TO WHAT THE USERS WANT AND NEED to accurately train using this app.

  • At first I was just going to request the "race" tag (since that is already on the running side of things), but agree that "road" and "trail" would be great too for both running & cycling.    (although do we go as far as denote gravel as well?)

  • How can there be so many comments and votes and yet nothing showing as planned? This has been here since 2012!? And there are several linked suggestions!

I'm not renewing my premium membership until this simple functionality to differentiate between road and mountain biking is added and reflected in Leaderboards.

Gone to Free membership - I will be back on Premium when I can differentiate Road vs Mountain bike.

  • I have 2 bikes:
    - 13kg aluminium hybrid, which I bought to ride during my chemo treatments (5 years ago).
    - 8 kg carbon road-bike (to celebrate being 3 years in remission).
Typically, the road bike is about 5km/h faster, but I like to know when it's "older, heavier brother" dishes out some pain on it, because I know I've done well against ME.
I've entered relevant data into the profile for each bike.  I select the bike when saving the ride, yet strava mostly considers them as the same no matter which I ride, as discussed by many here.  As far as I can see, strava is only using the different weights for power estimation.  Please can we have a mechanism to filter based on bike.  I'd be happy if it worked on "My Results".

I've considered creating a separate account, but the work to transfer 3 years of rides is not small, having to inspect EVERY ride is not trivial, and all the comments, kudos etc would be lost.
    Thanks,
    Robert D.

  • I have been using strava for a few years now and love it ! I am on several leaderboards and even have 14 kom's , but I have noticed a issue with at least one of the leaderboards I'm on and I suspect it's fairly common . I was riding one of my favorite segements recently which I am #3 on when another rider passed me relatively easily. Later that day after uploading my ride I checked the leaderboard on that particular segment and saw that the rider who passed me had earned a kom for his efforts ! The issue I have is not that he was faster than me but that he was on a tt/tri bike . I'm fine those riders being on leaderboards, but I just wish there was a separate leaderboard for riders on road bikes vs. those on tt/tri bikes. Both groups would benefit because tt bikes are clearly faster on flat terrain whereas road bikes climb better .

  • @Eric,

I agree being able to filter segment leaderboard by bike type would be convenient (same way you currently can filter it by age, club etc). This is also discussed here: https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/21054846

But I don't think we need completely separate leaderbords per bike type. There can be only one KOM on a given segment :)

If you want to get KOM - pick your weapon appropriately (TT for fast flats, light road bike for climbs etc)

  • +1 also allow per bike PRs.

I want to know that I got better times with my single speed MTB bike. I ride the same trails with FS MTB and a SS MTB and obviously the times are different.

The only way for me to know I progressed with the SS it to create a new account.

  • E-Bikes already have their own activity type.  If you do a ride on an E-bike then you can select "E-bike ride" instead of "ride"

  • The list of bikes to choose from should have these-

Road, Mountain, TT, CX, Track, and Commuter (vague term to cover most non racing bikes).

  • Most of the segments in my area are quite flat, so the TT guys pretty much own them.

  • Adding bikes, it'd be best IMO to allow us to name our own bikes, as on the 'Cateye''s (free) Atlas and ride log, which even allows you to post a PHOTO of the bike.
I use names like Road Bike, Winter bike (usually has fenders where I live!), and BikeFriday (folding bike)

  • Omil, what you describe is already there - go into your profile, klick on "My Gear" and add your bikes. When submitting new activities you can choose which bike you used.
The reason for this feature request is not enabling users to distinguish their own gear, but to make a clean break between types of bikes that can't be compared and therefor would be "unfair" if KOMs and QOMs get mixed up.

  • Thanks Christoph. No sign of the heading "My Gear" ... either on the dropdowns for "Dashboard", "Training", or "Explore", or under "Challenges" or "Shop".  Suspect that one'd have to 'Go Premium' to find that, though it's not listed in the advantages for going Premium in the promos.
Either way, I've been quite happy with the Cateye atlas for logging my routes... only going on to Strava for now on occasion when friends say that there's a route or two in our area.

Can you confirm that the "My Gear" is only on the "Premium" option.... or is it somewhere that I haven't looked?

    cheers

  • @Omil O,

On the desktop version of Strava. Click on you profile picture and then select settings. On the left side menu is an option for My Gear. This is available for everyone. Free and premium. Once you have added your biles you can than assign which bike you used in an activity.

Unfortunately that is a) its goodfor. Strava have yet to take advantage of this data. It would be ideal if we could filter leader boards and have more insights into mountain biking, this would be invaluable to mountain biking advocacy.
