Separate Stats by Activity Type in Training Calendar (cycling, running)

Hi,

I'm new to Strava and have just been exploring the training calendar. I was wondering whether it's possible to split the training calendar by activity type, so I only see my total miles for running or cycling or walking etc? At the moment I can see my total miles but can't see how many are running.

Thanks.

  • I'd love to see this feature. Elle, where do I vote for it?

  • Click "Me Too" at the top of the forum. Thanks Johann!

  • There's a bunch being asked for in this thread, but the gist of it (IMO) is solved by http://blog.strava.com/runners-your-training-log-is-here-7003/ (and in a rather user friendly fashion!)

  • Danny, I don't think that solves what most people in here are asking for. The new training log is a nice feature, but does not address the issue in this thread.

The training log does provide a way to view just running or just riding miles, but it only groups it into weeks. I don't want to have to go through and add up every week to calculate my total miles for the month or whatever time period I want to look at. This picture sums up all that is needed to satisfy most people in this thread: https://strava.zendesk.com/attachments/token/eljvec3mjoia0yt/?name=Traning+Filter+Mockup.jpeg)%C2%A0and (along with putting the same running/cycling buttons on the profile page too: http://content.screencast.com/users/bdlangton/folders/Jing/media/accc22c4-b2cf-4ed4-a4e6-af0d080b5325/00000007.png).

This is still a sorely missing feature of an otherwise excellent site.

  • Barrett - I completely agree.

  • @Barrett, @Johann I see what you're saying; this sounds like Garmin Connect's custom reports (http://connect.garmin.com/reports), right?

That's not what I was looking for back when I 'Me Too'd this suggestion, but seems like a useful feature as well! If one were able to filter such views by activity-specific type (i.e., road vs. mountain/commute) as @Michael Burke suggests, that would be pretty sweet.

  • In the meantime while we consider this excellent feature suggestion, there is a 3rd party site called VeloViewer where you can run pretty custom reports on your data. http://veloviewer.com/

Hope you find that helpful! And thanks for the continued feedback on this topic.

  • I'd like to answer "How many miles have I walked in January?" or "How many miles have I nordic skied in 2014?".

On the Activity Calendar, I can see total miles/time/activities by month or year, but can't designate activity. And on the My Activities page I can see the activities but can't total them or set date range.

These seem like basic features that many people would want. Would love to see you implement some features to accomodate this functionality! (I know basic doesn't mean easy to implement, but hope you'll consider!)

  • It would be great to be able to see totals of hours and km for Ride, Swim and Walk in the calendar !

    +1 for the idea

  • I too would love to be able to separate.. But not just running and biking. If you are going to add all the different sports into the database, then we should be able to total any of them separately.. I have 500km of Skiing in and this is just adding to my cycling mileage. Or vise versa

Looking forward to seeing this soon.!!

  • Have they made any progress on this?  I've not seen anything new on it.  I would certainly love to be able to separate different activity types.  That is why I still use more than one online service.  Can't someone just add all the needed features so we only need one online resource?

  • Looks like there are three separate feature request for this. This thread has the most votes, but for people's reference, the other two are here:

    https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/28591214-In-the-Training-Calendar-Let-Us-Filter-By-Activity

This is pretty much the biggest feature that keeps me needing to use a competitor's site in conjunction with Strava.

  • Thanks Jamison! I've resolved the duplicate threads to avoid confusion and keep all the good feedback in one place.

No updates yet, unfortunately, but you'll likely see some updates made to the Training features by the end of the year (we'll see if we can fit this in!)

  • I totally agree, the graph on the "My profile" page is good but completely useless if we can't filter by activity, and I mean all kind of activity, not just running or biking. Same thing for the Training Log and Calendar pages.

    Thanks to all the staff!

  • I'm just putting a +1 on this. The calendar view is my most common use for Strava, and it'd be nice to break things down by activity.

Also...why no calendar view on the Android app???

This has been with Garmin Connect ever since as far as I know.

  • Hello, and happy new year - There is a new related forum for feedback around yearly metrics and reporting. Please check it out and add your comments!

The leading feedback trends so far are to separate yearly metrics in the Training Calendar by activity type (running and cycling), and to add yearly elevation totals.

  • Garmin Connect has this feature since from the beginning. I am puzzled that Strava still does not have it. It is so basic...

  • I'm new to Strava and this sort of thing stands out and is definitely needed unless Strava is aiming themselves at single sport people.  I mainly run with the occasional ride.  The weeks that I ride look ridiculous compared to my weeks with running only.  The same should apply to your profile page.  You can pick 'Stats' for run, ride or swim but the graphs seem to include all activity.

I like the social aspect of Strava and the Segments are useful as well as a bit of fun with people your following, being followed or in a club, but in general the stats to monitor performance are really lacking. No ongoing/cumulative (weekly/monthly/annual/YTD) tracking of things such as average run distance, elevation, pace or heart rate.

  • Disappointed to see this feature has still not been addressed. I would really appreciate it Strava!

  • I would still like to see this implemented, it's been a while since I originally posted - unsure if it's on the roadmap, but similar functionality to the training log would be appreciated. I don't use the calendar as I focus on running and just do occasional cycling, and without filtering it ends up skewing the data that I see.

  • I'm sorry to say that - as a Strava user - but take a look at Endomondo how stats should be done... Strava is a couple of levels behind... :-(

  • I'd love to see this filtering.  Given the activity log already does this on a week by week basis, it can't be that hard to add in ... can it?

  • Hi Strava, I've been using Strava for four years and I've been waiting for this feature for all that time. Why on earth has it not been implemented yet? Surely it must be the easiest change to make? Specifically, I want to run 1,000 miles a year, but I also bike occasionally and my bike miles screw up my tracking. I don't want to delete my rides, but I have no choice until this change is made.

  • There are other options to use 3rd parties that integrate with the API. I have built one that shows data in graphs, charts, and other stats. It can be broken up into specific sports as well. I created this for myself so that I can view the data how I want to, but I welcome others to give it a try: https://strava.barrettlangton.com

  • I think the short answer is: Strava is what it is, and it isn't anything more, and if you don't like it then tough luck. I've seen many, many very worthwhile suggestions, completely ignored. One of these days, something better is going to come along, and I will thankfully be able to end my relationship with Strava.

  • Yes, STRAVA, it's about DAMN time, How many people need to ask for this feature??? I thought I rode 200 mi last month and qualified for 4 raffle tickets with my club, but apparently that 207 mi total was for ALL my activities for the month, and I rode only 189 miles. It took me long enough to figure out how to see the totals for the month AT ALL, and now I find out I rode less than I "needed to" and I'm HEARTBROKEN.

    This is BS.

21 miles mean very different things when it's 20 mi run + 1 mi bike vs. 20 mi bike + 1 mi run.

    >:(
