Display data from all activity types in the Training Log

Currently, Strava's Training Log interface provides three views: Run, Ride, and Multi-sport. However, despite its name, the Multi-sport view does not include any activity type data other than that for running or cycling, apart from acknowledging that such an activity took place on a day with an XT tag. As a result, Strava is far less useful for those of us who participate in other activities, and many people are avoiding paying for Strava Premium because of this lapse (yes, we feel ignored).

At minimum, we would like the Training Log's Multi-sport view to include cumulative time spent on all supported activities, displaying them in different colored circles, as it does for running and cycling. That way those who snowshoe or cross-country ski in the winter, for instance, will at least be able to see how long they're exercising, as will those who are unable to run or bike, but can walk or kayak, for instance.

Better yet would be additional views parallel to Run and Ride for each activity type that Strava supports. Strava could easily display such a control for an activity on the fly based on that activity taking place at all, or show the control only if the activity took place a certain number of times, or within a certain time period. For me, for instance, I'd get a Snowshoe view and a Cross-Country Ski view, since those are sports I participate in regularly, but not a Kayak view, since I've never done that as an activity. In this scenario, the Multi-sport view should still calculate cumulative time across all activities.

If you're troubled by this discrimination against sports other than running and cycling within Strava, please leave a comment in this thread so the Strava folks realize how important it is.

Thanks in advance to Elle for passing this on, and to the developers for implementing it so we can all happily pay for Strava Premium.

  • Ooh I'd not heard of Training Peaks but will now go and check it out. Thanks to Strava's inability to even acknowledge lots of its paying (or ex-paying) customers, this thread now offers the alternative which they can't.

completely agree with all comments about necessity and ability to add other activities to the training log interface.

Regarding design interface, it would just consist in selecting  activities to be displayed (to avoid long list) or have a colour for each activity ...

Easy to fix and a way to take User's feedback into account ...

Some posts are 2 years old ... Actually, such expectation looks like an utopia ...

  • I used to be able to check on my yearly walking averages. I only do cycling and walking, so the run and swimming averages for me are both: zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero zero.

Why can't we choose our 3 exercise types, we're not all triathletes.

It's been shown that walking is actually the number 1 activity for health. It's been shown that people who live the longest usually do regular walking.

Walking should be the most important activity to see stats for in my opinion..

  • I assume this hasnt been resolved. Yes very annoying. Plus, when I have an injury i need to work around, I'll just switch sports but shoot for the same amount of time. When i see the run time as a few hours, but then see a bunch of weight lifting and cross as zero, its frustrating. Thanks for attention to the issue.

  • I though I finally found an app summarizing all my different types of activities. And I would easily pay for Strava if it had this feature.

  • Seems like plenty people would like to see this feature adding, and the demand hasn't gone away three years after the original post from Adam. That's just from the people who can be bothered to actually write something here: I bet there is a silent majority hidden behind us noisy ones.

Cycling is my main activity, but I walk every day to escape the office, and when the weather is cold and wet I end up rowing. I rack up a reasonable number of hikes each year. It would be nice to have the ability to record these other activities so they count for something here. Otherwise why bother to acknowledge that the other sports even exist?

    You're missing something here, Strava!

Its not that hard to implement.

Your ads do not specify that you ignore non running/cycling sessions in various places.

You loose ground in comparison to Garmin connect. Even most of your software being way better....

I canceled my premium subscription because of this. And I won't get a new one until this is fixed.

  • For what it's worth, I still refuse to buy Strava Premium purely because of this limitation, three years later. It's ridiculous that Strava won't add at least minimal support for other sports in the Training Log.

I'll see if I can hunt down a Strava PR person and point them to this thread.

    cheers... -Adam

  • +1 on this, it's a farce. I second using Trainingpeaks, there's a weekly summary view that gives you all you need.

Come on Strava - you complain you are a small company trying to keep up but that should be your advantage, small companies should be agile and should strive to keep their customers happy - if you can't keep up hire more people, that's a problem you need to fix, it shouldn't mean your customers have to suffer because of it.

  • They have added a feature which tells you how far/long you've gone this month, but that is entirely unhelpful and only serves to clutter up the screen, especially on mobiles.

  • I've taken up inline skating as an alternate to being on the road bike and it's frustrating to look at my week and only have one biking activity when I also had 25 miles of skating. Please consider this addition to the activity log.

  • Ha! Well, at least we have new ways to give Kudos, since that was so important to us all. Strava is off course and will never fulfill this feature request.

  • I'm currently on a free premium trial of Strava and have just noticed how unless I run/cycle, any other activity scores a lowly XT with no time allocated in my weekly training log... Boo!!! I can't believe no one from Strava has acknowledged this discussion and the need to implement change based on the feedback of so many users wanting what seems like a simple feature to provide.

WON'T go beyond my free trial and pay. WILL checkout Training Peaks!!

  • It's ridiculous that this feature request has been ignored for so long. What annoys me the most about Strava is that it has great potential that could be realised with just a few small tweaks like this yet they continue to ignore paying customers.

  • We are so many who has pointed out this feature as important for sooo long. Can anyone from Strava please answer? I was on premium (until +1 year ago) but will stay on "free trial" until this is solved...

  • Totally agree, and have done the same, as the last commenter. I have no intention of going back to premium until 'full service' is made available to other activities! I really don't see why Strava are dragging their butts so much on this issue.

  • Hey Folks,

I appreciate the enthusiasm regarding this sort of feature.

Our forums are just one component of our decision-making process in implementing new features and we need to be selective and balance our priorities.

    Thanks for understanding!

  • This feature is essential. When you say our forums are just one component of our decision-making process, I hear 'our users are only a small component of what we care about....' Diversity in activities is important no matter what sport you focus on, no?

  • Karina, you are correct. Strava focuses on user acquisition and won't be concerned with user retention until the statistics are worrisome... and that won't happen until there's a convenient alternative. It's a matter of time. Meanwhile small numbers drop our Premium memberships and guard data in our local datastores (in my case, a spreadsheet).

  • Jess, I can't say I do understand. It could be the case, but it's hard for me to believe that more people want a new way to give kudos than want an implementation of this feature.

  • Well said Scott Queen! Indeed very difficult to believe. A case of a businees 'knowing' what is best for it's customers, rather than listening to it's customers. I wonder how many have cancelled their premium membership because of this!

  • I'm late to Strava but chose it because of supposedly good design and usability. This is bullshit. 2.5 years of stonewalling zillions of clear customer requests for something that should be simple?

I'm not going to pay for premium features and will be looking at alternatives.

  • I can't see why it's so difficult to be implemented. For me the lack of all activities in the training log is a no-go when it comes to premium subscription.

I currently use Training Peaks. It is great!!

  • Please just add some bubbles for the "XT". I'd love to open up the strava app or web site and be stoked about changes / improvements. I notice it changed recently but it's not obviously better. XT bubbles in the training log would put a grin on my face :)

I want to see how my weight training is complementing my other activities using the training log.  Can't do it on Strava apparently.  Elon Musk can build the biggest solar batttery in the world inside 100 days but Strava can't add a simple feature to an app after 3 years.  Hmmm......
