Option to reset my PRs each year

It would be nice to be able to reset PRs.  Just had a long training gap and it would be nice to reset my PRs so I can use it as a way of pushing during recovery.

Alternatively, Annual PRs in addition to All Time PRs would work too.

  • Yes I agree it would be great to be able to have different PR sets/groups. Especially after a return to riding after an injury etc.

It would be good to have PR0 your best PR ever PR16 your best PR this year and PRA your PR after an injury etc, PRB the next come back to riding etc.

  • Les, registering another account is not often an option.

I need a feature to reset personal bests cuz my old phone produced lots of invalid gps data, therefore my PRs are inaccurate.

  • I would like to see this feature as well.  I am two years older now and it's disheartening to see those PRs that I can no longer catch.  Annual PRs is a great idea.

  • Add me to the list of wanting to have the ability to reset PRs or at least be able to set them by year.  I agree with Jared above that it is disheartening to see older PRs that I will probably not be able to match or beat.

  • Hey all. After a run, i left my GPS in a moving vehicle, while still tracking the activity. I got all new PRs and even after deleting the activity from Strava, it did not reset. There is a solution: Under "Actions" (spanner), there is an  option at the bottom of the list called "Refresh Activity Achievements. This refreshed my PRs and they are all correct now. :)

  • Hi Richard C.

I am not sure if your are raising a slightly different issue. If I am understanding correctly, you collected some data accidently and then deleted it so that your correct existing PR's were restored.

The case I would like to see is having a number of PR's on your Strava record.

See my previous post October 15, 2016

Hopefully Strava will see the benefit of these extra sets/types of PR, as it is a bit soul destroying especially if you are getting older or simply have lost form due to injury or inactivity never to be able to get a PR.

  • Ok. I understand. Yes, having the option for a 'PR' for  a specific period (ever, year, or specific number of months,) would be useful.

  • Agree - I would like a feature to set 2018 PRs. Useful as you get older for goal setting - i.e. beat last year not beat 'all time' record.

  • I also vote for an option to reset your personal PR's every year or after a gap in training. Please add this feature, everyone is asking for it.

  • Yes!  I would like this feature. I am in my 50s now and would like to re-set PRs every couple of years as I age and my abilities change. Do not want to compete against my best at 45 when I am now 51. Please consider this option Strava.

  • Agreed, I had a heart attack last year and am starting to ramp up to try and increase my speed without raising my heart rate too high. This obviously limits the speeds I can do and means I’ll likely never come close, but I love the idea of being able to draw a line from time to time (not necessarily annually) to allow me to understand my progress in context. This would work for those injured, aging and also women who have given birth and are working back to fitness.

  • Yes same here. Seems the best solution for me is to just set up a new account 'me2019' and add the few friends I care to follow each time. Old me is not a fair fight with young me.

  • Would also like this my Strava seems very messed up when it comes to personal records.

  • It is not just coming back after an injury or similar.  I live in a very hilly area and a couple of years ago I ran on a canal path for a few runs and obviously smashed all my PBs on every distance.  I haven't had a record or achievement since even though I am faster now. Very demoralising, which is the opposite of the point of PBs etc.  Would be nice to reset or have an anual set of achievements or similar.

  • Having had bypass surgery on 2018 and now at 65 I'll probably never achieve PBs set in 2014-16 ever again but I was doing OK last summer and I agree it would be nice to see your annual records without having to delete your history.

  • Yes totally agree. I have had a four-year break from serious running and now mid 50's. I went onto Garmin Connect (GC), clicked the delete button (for each PR) and now GC is now "clean". It would be nice to have the same feature on Strava. At the worst have an annual and all-time PR's.

  • This seems to have been out there as a sensible request for nearly 5 years (since this thread was opened).  I have been thinking this way myself for a couple of years now.  Hopefully I have yet to find the page of "upcoming features" explaining when it's due to be available.

  • I'll second what's being said here. Another thing I find disheartening about how Strava does pr's, is if you tie a previous time, you then get 2nd best time ever, or 3rd best, then it doesn't even show up if you keep getting the same time on a favorite trail. I feel like every time you tie an old time, the new time should be your new fastest.
Another thing to add to this conversation is often times a trail will change from year to year, sometimes resulting in a slower trail. Even adding a single roller or a berm getting knocked out can change the time possible for a trail and if that happens no one will be able to beat their previous time. I can see this becoming a safety issue for some people as well. You may also have a day with hero dirt and another with loose gravel. My point is, greater emphasis on the day or year records would be great, and don't make your day placement dissapear after that day is past, leave it on that ride for how you did for that days conditions.
Lastly, Strava is awesome and my favorite social media app, thank you for all you do.

  • Does Strava ever comment in the forums?  A lot of us are getting older and I'll never be able to beat my records of the younger me. I'd like a reset that at least gives me PR per year. at least that way I can compete against myself at the same age!  This topic has been brought up for many years here...not optimistic.

  •  I fractured my hip and been out for a year and finding it hard to get going and beating myself up not getting anywhere near my pb’s and being honest i prob never will. But i would like to be able to work towards a new goal. Be much more help if you could reset or have year ones.

looks like a few of us are by this list

  • Throwing my 2 cents in also.  I have been a Strava user since 2011 and there are PRs I will never hit again.  I think many use cases are covered here, now it is time for Strava to cover this use case that it initial users are hitting more and more as they age (and the service ages along with us).  I think there are the basic thoughtful... pick the best thing you are racing against...  If my pace is about at my monthly PR then show me my comparison against that, if it is ride that rivals or beats my best of the last 12 months then show me that.  Make goal that fit where I am riding currently and if I am rivaling the KOM or my personal PR then show that.

Also let me add PR archive point... like a reset point or point to hide everything prior.  This would be simple and would tell Strava how far back to compare.  I can set that easily for myself.  I have a section for MY KOMs in my account... how many folks have KOMs on public segments?

What worked when there were 10K riders on Strava may not work when there are 50 million+ members. How about build things that allow people to build a comfortable challenging virtual space to ride/run within.  I am working out against mostly myself or maybe some friends at times. Seems this should be the focus.

  • I add my name to the request to reset PR's. I have had the misfortune of having a hip replacement this year and so my past pr's are rather meaningless as I am somewhat unable now to do 7:30 m/m etc. I cannot compare 2020 me to 2016 etc me. Come on Strava this is a reasonable request!
