Settings to hide Zwift trainer rides in feed

Is it possible to hide all the Zwift rides within a Strava feed?  It feels like it's turning Strava into a video game.  There should be an available setting to hide Zwift/trainer rides out of the daily feed.

  • Simon - same here - I'd been paying premium since 2011 just because I loved Strava and what they were doing, but the lack of any movement on this made me cancel my premium sub as well.

  • I canceled my premium a couple days ago since it's up for renewal and Strava has not made any movement on this.  I doubt they care as they figure they're making more off the Zwifters than us haters.

It would be so simple: all they have to do is give us the ability to either filter out certain types of ride or users, or do like Facebook does and allow us to "Snooze" a friend for 30 day blocks. Most of my Zwifter friends find there way back out into the real world once winter is over, and I'm happy to begin kudo-ing their IRL adventures again.

  • Simple activity type/flag filter doesn't seem that challenging.

  • Elle , given your official comment was over 6 months ago, can we have an update please ?  Aside from the algorithmic feed causing me to miss some of my contacts rides I have had more than enough of these artificial rides with fake elevation clogging my feed. Using the iphone app to view others rides has become a waste of time because of the zwift feed dominance. ( Mind you the constant flicking over the feed to get beyond the zwift crap is bulking up my index finger ..! )

I ride to be outside, granted others are too soft and stay glued to their screens but I'm not interested in seeing their ride data and will never give a zwift ride any thought. So can I please respectfully request that I be given the option to remove this from my feed.

  • Yes - please update us on any progress here @Elle after this comment 203 days ago. Nobody's dying here and I appreciate that none of this will seem urgent to Strava, but it clearly annoys the hell out of a lot of people.  Simple filters that would work in user preferences about what we see in our feed would be incredibly popular.

  • I've given up hoping for any updates or progress on this. I checked the suggestions page and sorted by the number of votes, and this doesn't show up until the third page, and several of the top suggestions with over a thousand votes have folks crying for updates as well. Considering the really popular requests are not getting updates, or piddly little request with only 100+ votes isn't likely - especially since we're basically asking them to give us the option to turn off ads.

In other news, I've found uBlock is an excellent extension that is more powerful than any of the Strava-specific extensions when it comes to blocking elements of the Strava UI. I've got a pretty extensive ruleset which disables most all of the unwanted stuff from my Strava feed, including Zwift and Peloton rides and all the annoying "upgrade to Premium" crap.

  • @chris Would you mind sharing the part of your ublock ruleset that deals with Strava?

  • @chris

All fine, thanks, but not even approaching a solution for the (most?) users who use the Strava App.   @Strava need to sort this nonsense out STILL

  • It seems as if they have a marketing agreement with Zwift so these activities are essentially ads.

  • @chris Thank you very much!

@dave Yep, I quit using the mobile app a while ago.  Garmin + web version for me.  (Plus I have an ancient phone that runs out of battery really fast when running Strava...)

I also recently signed up for a paid ridewithgps.com account.  I'm enjoying it so far, and the route planning tools are nice.  Still recording my rides to Strava for now, but I don't know if I'll keep that up.

  • Never said it was a good solution for everyone, it's what I decided to go with since it's obvious that Strava's not going to fix it anytime soon, and other solutions have proven inconsistent. This also doesn't do anything for the mobile app, so I just avoid using the mobile app for anything but recording.

  • Sure @Chris - didn't mean to sound ungrateful.  We just want Strava to sort this out properly.  It must be the simplest bit of development in the world  - I've even done them a simple design :-D

  • In the interest of making it potentially easier, I'm working on making my ruleset available as a uBlock filter list. Right now I've got the whole thing working and am testing it, but I think I'll break out different parts as not everyone will want to block exactly what I want to block. It'll still be non-trivial and past many folks, but it'll at least be a _little_ easier, I hope.

PLEASE STRAVA .... DO SOMETHING ITS ANOYING ME, MORE AND MORE.
STRAVA WILL BE KILLED BY ZWIFT AND ALSO BY ELEKTRIC BIKES RIDES OUTSIDE. THE REAL RIDERS ARE NOT RECOGNIZED BY STRAVA!!!!!<

  • @Eddy: It's pretty simple. Unfollow the guys "riding" virtual. Maybe that's not what Strava had in mind, but I think it's the best way to enforce our demand.

  • I'd like my data from Zwift for my own purposes, and to be private from other users.

  • Ivan - that's easy, set up a different account for Zwift riding and have it default to private. That's what I do.

Or, have your rides default to private and manually edit "real" rides after the fact so that folks can see those if you don't want to deal with a second account.

  • If you run uBlock in your browser (possibly also Adblock Plus) this has made my Strava feed fantastically better:

    https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ChrisHeerschap/ublock/master/ublock.txt

in uBlock preferences, under "Custom Lists", add that URL. Your feed will be waaaay simpler, and most of the "hey, TRY OUT THIS THING" stuff will be removed, as well as all the Zwift/Trainer Road/Peloton stuff.

Or wait for Strava to do something about it... 🤣

  • Thanks Chris.  Reasonable suggestion.  I would prefer to keep all of my data together, but I may do that.  I was talking a quick look at the API info a couple of days ago.  If the activities have an identifier that they are zwift, I may just run a webserver to connect a webhook into so that when I complete an activity, if it is Zwift, it would be changed to private automatically.

  • Hey folks,

Thanks for adding your comments! I currently do not have an update for you. Sorry, I can't give you all more information. Please continue to add your thoughts and suggestions. I'll be sure to add this to my report to the product managers.

    Cheers!

  • Why is this feature taking so long? Nobody needs to see some fake ride through NYC Central Park when the person never even went outside in real life.  I thought Strava was about real life?

  • No, you're wrong Chris. Strava is about money. And I guess Swift is paying a lot.

  • @Chris Keys

"I thought Strava was about real life?"

:-( - good luck with that.  Just reading through this thread and my Strava feed depresses me. Strava is primarily a business. Sadly, "The Outdoors" can't partner up and sponsor Strava with referral fees in the way that Zwift can. As such, Strava's going after the money.

I've been posting on this thread for years. It's like a black hole. Depressing to read.
