Weird Pace calculation for running activity

Yesterday I went for a run, and did 5,5km in 29minutes, which comes to around 5:15/km, But when I view the Pace analysis tool, it shows me average pacetimes between 6:30 and 7:00... so that's weird. It even claims that my average is indeed 5:15, while it says my fastest pace was 6:32. Then how can the average be so much faster? Something seems to be off about the math:

  • I have exactly the same problem, albeit with 'slightly' slower pace. Looked at the gpx file, which has gone crazy. I know for a fact that that run lasted just under an hour - which fits with the distance and the average pace - but looking at the file it has been recording for 1h20. It hasn't, though, I switched it off immediately after my run. Strava seems to have spread the 8 km I've run over 1h20 rather than 55 minutes.

Have now had two consecutive runs with this problem - a reaction from Strava would be lovely. :)

  • Toine and Emma - If you are having what appear to be a technical problem, I would suggest using the "Submit a request" link at the bottom center of this page to send the issue to Strava directly.  This forum is not really monitored by Strava technicians, mostly just other users trying to help each other out.  You will get a much quicker answer to your technical question through the link below.

  • I reported this problem (seemingly introduced into the Android app sometime in early or mid-December 2019). I keep getting brush-offs from Strava support. The app is faking the timestamps in the GPX, which is particularly insidious and will destroy all faith in their data that the users may have.
