Samsung Galaxy Active 2 (TIZEN) Strava app is useless

I got a 44m 4G Samsung Galaxy Active 2 just after Christmas. I have a Samsung S10 and wanted a 4G watch so it was the obvious choice, plus I knew it had a Strava app so ticked all the boxes. Downloaded and installed the app on the first day I got the watch and started to use it for running and cycling. Basically the app isn't fit for purpose, there are so many bugs it should never have been released, what testing did you do on the TIZEN Strava app before you released it? I've had instances of dropping activities halfway through, activities getting stuck (even though my live pace was still updating), the app crashing back to the start screen. Basically all of the problems that have been described in several other community posts by many other users. I've tried all of the suggestions like turning off all notifications, untethering from my phone, setting my Samsung health steps to an unreachable target, screen always on, uninstall, reinstall, reboot, stand upside down, on one leg etc. etc. and I'm still having problems with it. Ran a 10k this evening and it recorded the first 0.9 miles then got stuck. Frankly, why are we even having to do all these ridiculous workarounds to try and get this app to work? We shouldn't have to, it should be robust enough to cope with other events such as notifications going on with the watch - its an app for a smartwatch. I've deleted the app and will be using the Samsung Health app and syncing with Strava until you get this sorted. Really, really disappointed. This app should never have been released in its current state and looks like a rush job to satisfy the folks who bought the Galaxy Watch based on the Strava marketing only to find the app wasn't available at first release. Am I right?

  • I've had a few problems with Strava on Galaxy Active 2 TIZEN as well. Sometimes it just doesn't find a gps lock.

I agree, it just has a feel of an app that's been "rushed out the door".

Hopefully the next version you'll be able to:

Remove all the options you don't use (I'll never be Nordik skiing).
Know when the GPS locks (and you can start running)
    Countdown option to start.
Alter the "current" pace distance (mine jumps from 8:03 to 9:something, with very little in between)
Alter the layout of the screen
    Lock the screen on
Choose what the hardward buttons do

  • Still no comment on this post or any of the others regarding the TIZEN Strava app from Strava Support - why the silence?

  • So 9 days on and still no comment from Strava, great support, thanks Strava. I've been using the Samsung Health app to track my runs and sync to Strava and I must say that in 10 runs it's been flawless, not dropped or reset or lost GPS or anything. Won't be using the STrava app again until I'm confident it's sorted.

  • Strava - still waiting for any kind of response on the various Samsung Watch threads

  • Ben R. have you found a solution?

  • Also here the same issue. Tip on other topics on this forum is to disable the phone-to-watch bluetooth connection as the watch strava app is using the phone-GPS rather than the internal-GPS. This is based on the theory that once you lose the phone-to-watch bluetooth, it also loses the phone-GPS and the app 'gets confused' then it takes 10 or so minutes to find the watch-GPS again. In any case, disappointing that Strava has still not responded to this topic (let alone fix the issue)

  • @Tom Esendam - I've just stuck to using Samsung Health with Strava Sync, it's been great, no issues whatsoever in over 60 runs. Its everything the Strava App isnt and it works! No way I'm buying Strava Premium until this is fixed. Until then I'll stick with Samsung Health.

  • Ben R. Strava support told me they're working on a fix. They couldn't give me an ETA however. They told me this on the 6th of march.

  • I bought an Active 2 watch recently and am trying to use it for mountain biking so I can include my heart rate statistics on my Strava rides.  I too am having issues.  I lost 2 rides this week alone .... everything seems to be working until I get home and want to Finish the ride and sync the data and the ride is no longer there.  Very frustrating.  I'll see if I am able to use the Samsung Health and sync it to Strava and see if that works.  I must say, I am very disappointed.

  • Also of note, one of the guys I ride with uses an Apple watch and he doesn't seem to have any issues using it with Strava

  • Ive just brought the galaxy active 2 watch and trying to sync my running from the samsung health app to strava. Ive gone onto the samsung health app on the phone. Gone to connected services and selected strava and followed the steps. It then shows the green toggle is on to say they are connected but as of yet nothing has appeared on strava. Does it take time to upload or should it be instant. Please help. Thank you

  • It should be instant once the watch has synced with your phone. If the run shows in your Samsung health feed it should show in Strava. Sometimes it takes a few minutes but its usually almost instant. Note that if Samsung health has updated you sometimes need to sign in to Strava again to setup the sync. It works perfectly for me, no actual need for the Strava App...

  • To confirm my earlier theoretical post. I now, around 10 mins before running:

    1. disconnect watch from phone

    2. turn off wifi

    3. ensure 'location' is set to GPS only.

It works, I step outside, turn on Strava and get that comforting 'GPS found vibration' :). all my strava runs are being tracked correctly.

  • I recently bought a samsung Galaxy watch and am having similar issues.. The gps is terrible. Its all over the place and the pace can be at 7 minute miles one second, and 22 the next..

It's that bad I've stopped using it. I've started using map my run and exporting the tcx file afterwards..

Map my run, and Samsung health both record perfectly every time.. Strava never does.

  • Doesnt show recording device on mobile app either.. shows if recorded on an apple watch or garmin though..

Get of you knees and stop pandering to apple and Garmin and give us a proper working app.. This is useless

  • Any comments by the mods in this "support" forum? The watch is able to monitor the workout autonomously, so please make use of it. If you want us to use your app then make it work.

  • @Strava - If you want me to pay for your services then you need to get this working. All of the TIZEN world will be using 3rd party apps to sync with Strava until you fix this.

  • The Strava app on the Samsung Active 2 is certainly a head scratcher.  It resets approx. 1/10 for myself.

The no swimming option is also annoying.

  • I am having similar issues with Active 2. GPS has been fine but many times when finish doesn't upload activity. Active shows in watch but nothing online and no button to re-sync on watch. Any thoughts on how to re-sync? Does the Samsung Health upload to strava show the segment times? Thinking might have to switch to Samsung Health.

  • I have had the issue since day one. Disconnect everything from phone, make sure airplane mode is off, GPS set to GPS only, no wifi combo and power saving is off.

Then you go outside and hope it doesn't take 10 minutes to link to satellites. Sometimes 2 min, sometimes as much as ten.

I would never buy anything from Strava given the issues they have with their development and QA process. 8 have posted solutions on the board before for the GS9 and it seems they are incapable of serious software development processes.

I have several co-workers that have the issue. My guess is it is not a priority. However, when is the last time they added to the watch app or pushed out a fix?

That alone should tell you the priority they have for this issue ...

  • Im too having issues with active 2 watch but my problems only started after recent update. Activity not long enough to sync(apparently a 10.2km mtb ride is not long enough) but I can sit on my bed record for 2 seconds and upload it. And recently have been getting the app crashed message have sent screenshots to strava and details of the problems but no reply. Was using Samsung health on my phone to sync to strava but that stopped working about a year ago. Now relying on the unreliable angi system by specialized to upload my data to strava . Getting pretty sick of strava and its shit problems which have seemed to have gotten worse since i started paying for my subscription. Guess we won't be getting any replies or refunds for faulty apps. So disappointing that the app worked fine when free.

  • Have same problem activity not long enough to upload. I've been having it since last update. I pay full subscription but may as well use free version if can't upload heart rate. If no response within 1 week. Then I'll cancel subscription and never recommend to friends. I must stress samsung are to blame as well. Wish I'd never brought active 2. Can't wait till I accidentally break watch so I can get new.

  • Same problem, went on a 36km ride today, went to save and Strava said it wasn't long enough and prompted me to discard it. That's only one of the problems since the update. 5 times out of 10, the app will crash when I try to finish. Restarting the app, it will prompt me to resume from crash. It fails however. I did discover that the activity is saved on the history, so I try to resync it? NOPE. Never appears on my dashboard. This update, broke this app so bad, that all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put this piece of crap back together again.

  • Instead of Strava, I use Samsung Health on the watch for recording activities. Health data is synchronized to Heath app on mobile device. Here you can export GPX file. The GPX file can be imported into Strava on a computer.

You can also activate automatic sync from Health to Strava. On mobile goto Health app -> Menu - > Settings -> Connected Services -> Strava = Switch On.  With this your Health activities will be automatically synced to Strava. However, it's worthless since time and speed are not correctly registered in Strava. Route is correct, but time details are incorrect.

As long the Strava watch app is erroneous and the data from Health is not correctly synced to Strava, I use Health with manual export and import of GPX file.
