Getting Started on Mobile

Welcome to Strava! We are excited that you have decided to join Strava’s community of athletes. Now that you’re registered, you can use Strava to track your progress, motivate you, and connect with others. This guide will help get you started so you can fully engage in the Strava experience on mobile. Looking for web guidance? You can find that guide here.

  • Updating your settings and profile- Look for the ‘Profile’ icon and select ‘Edit’ to complete your profile, including your profile picture, location and information about yourself on the iOS app. Open the "Feed" menu and tap your avatar to access your profile on Android. To customize your settings, like those for privacy and notifications, look for the ‘Settings’ option when you select ‘More’ from the bottom right of the iOS app and from the "Feed" menu of the Android app.

  • Find friends to follow- From your iOS or Android app, you can explore Facebook contacts, your phone’s contacts, and Strava’s suggested athletes to discover which of your friends are already on Strava. Once you follow another athlete, or when your request to follow is approved, their activities will appear in your activity feed alongside your own. You can also invite your friends to join Strava via SMS or email.

  • Record an activity- You can record an activity on the iOS and Android app by tapping the red circle icon near the bottom of the screen. After you’ve finished recording you can change the activity type accordingly from the ‘Edit’ screen. You can add a manual activity by tapping the ‘+’ icon in the upper left.

  • Pair external devices and sensors- Heart rate monitors, power meters, and cadence sensors can all be paired from the record screen on the iOS and Android mobile apps. These external devices must have Bluetooth or ANT+ enabled in order to pair with the Strava app.

  • Upload photos and share to social- Once you’ve uploaded your recorded activity or entered your manual activity, you can add photos. Select photos from your  iOS or Android device. You can opt to display a photo when you share your activities to your social accounts.
