Suunto Movescount and Strava

As of December 19th, 2019, Suunto has migrated from Movescount to the Suunto app. Learn more about syncing activities to Strava from the Suunto app here.

You can automatically upload your activities to Strava from Movescount or the Suunto app for select devices.

  1. In Movescount settings click “Connect with Strava” and log into Strava. If you do not have a Strava account, register first.
  2. You can select to sync all of your Moves, only rides or only runs with Strava. You also have an option to turn syncing off.
  3. After the next Movescount sync, your new Moves will be automatically transferred to Strava.
  4. Only new activities will sync to Strava automatically. Activities without GPS data and any lap data will not sync.

Occasionally, we experience temporary outages or delays in the syncing service between Movescount and Strava. Remember, activities without GPS data will not sync to Strava at this time. In the event that your Suunto activity is not synced from Movescount to Strava, you may be able to manually import your activities to Strava by following these steps:

  1. After you sync your watch go to "My Moves" in Movescount.
  2. Click on the icon showing the Move you want to export in the calendar on the right so it loads that Move on the left panel.
  3. Click on Tools in the upper right-hand corner and choose the format you'd like to export the Move in. Only .TCX, .GPX, and .FIT files can be uploaded to Strava.
  4. Save it to your desktop and then log in to Strava and click Upload Activity in the upper right. Select the file you just saved for upload.

  • All of a sudden today my Suunto movescount is not syncing to strava. It works flawlessly for months and months then has trouble, and I never know what has happened. I sync the same way everytime.... so frustrating.

  • Integration happens at an inconsistent rate; sometimes moves are uploaded to Strava within 10 minutes of being uploaded from my Suunto watch to Movescount. Other times it can takes several hours. Why is this?

  • I'm having the same issue as discussed above by Hugo and Maya, but in my case it is not a delay; basically my moves are not being uploaded since two days ago.
Could someone let us know what is the problem and if there is any fix on its way?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I also have the same problem as Maya above. Sometimes the sync takes hours. Is this an issue on the Movescount side or on the Strava side?

It used to work flawlessly until a couple of weeks ago.

  • I'm with Maya and Hugo. My activities usually upload within minutes of synching my Suunto with Movescount. The past week or so they have been significantly delayed. My activity yesterday took almost 12 hours to upload to Strava. My activity today has not yet been updated in Strava over 10 hours after I synched with Movescount. It is a Strava problem as I also synch with another program and it occurred almost immediately.

  • Same as Hugo and Maya from my side. Since one week it take variable time to sync...(from 30min to several hours..., before it takes never more than 10min) it comes from Strava or Movescount side ?

  • Why Garmin or Tomtom are allowed to sync no-gps swim activities and not Suunto?

  • Today (May 7, 2016) my activity - with GPS - did not upload from Movescount to Strava. My Suunto Ambit 2R was working fine yesterday. Almost 10 hours later, no data transfered. What's the problem?

  • Strava results always different than those of my Suunto, sometimes greater than ten percent, mainly in swimming and cycling.
Is there anything I can do to reduce these gaps?

  • Hi there. I'm quite happy with how quick a workout is synced from Movescount to Strava, however, every synced workout is set to private by default. All Strava settings are set to public though. I have to manually switch to public everytime a workout is synced to Strava... Anyone else experiencing the same problem? How can this be fixed?

  • If activity time seems to be now fixed for GPS activites, it is still not the case for activities without GPS data.
For example, some indoor activities held in the evening are mentionned in Strava as morning activities. Is there any way to correct this?

  • I got the same problem. Sometimes Strava synchronizes within 10 mins and sometimes within hours. It also doesnot sync my race with fellow cyclists in Strava

  • Three days in a row now that my info from Movescount hasn't automatically uploaded after fifty straight runs with no problem, usually on Strava within ten minutes. What could possibly have changed? Ideas?

  • Is anyone else having issues with syncing from Movescount to Strava? I've had the accounts linked for months without any issues, but since Saturday nothing is syncing at all.

  • Same no data in strava 8 hours after activity. 28th of feb an activity never synced but I think that was related to AWS going down. Has anyone noticed that that the swim pace chart no longer populates?

  • Same here, last successful sync was March 17th. Half marathon race data today did not sync to Strava, so I deleted it in Movescount and tried to re-sync. Now I discover that deleted moves cannot be re-synced without some modification to the system files. My Ambit3 is also due a firmware update that will delete all the logbook files on the watch so at the moment I have no way of retrieving my race data, never mind getting it on Strava. Annoying doesn't cover it.

  • I have the Suunto Spartan. Used to use Movescount as primary application for checking my moves, it works but I'd like the idea of segments. A friend suggested Strava, so I joined. Unfortunately the integration of Strava (segments not showing on watch, sync with moves count not working) is not working very good. Not going to go premium for exactly this reason. Strava and Suunto: fix it and you will have a new customer(s)

  • Same here with swimming. All swimming periods (between rest periods) are correctly synced and shown in Strava, but somehow the total distance is a lot less (700m i/o 1200m in this case) and therefore pace is not correct.

  • I think your assumption is correct, that Strava is interpreting the data differently But neither version of the activity stats is necessarily more or less accurate. The reason is that GPS data has a consistent and inherent degree of error.

  • From last week, sync is not working anymore between Strava and my Suunto movescount. I am forced to do it manually. It worked very well before. What's the issue ?

  • This is interesting, Torbjörn J. I created both GPX and TCX files for the same Suunto move. The TCX has an initial timestamp of 2016-07-07T06:13:13Z which is, of course, 6:13 in the morning - the time I did swim. Strava interprets this as the day before and at 1:13 in the morning. The GPX file's initial timestamp is: 2016-07-07T13:13:13.992Z which is 1:13 in the afternoon, yet Strava interprets this as 6:13 in the morning. So I am not sure where the problem is.
