Suunto Movescount and Strava

You can automatically upload your activities to Strava from Movescount or the Suunto app for select devices.

  1. In Movescount settings click “Connect with Strava” and log into Strava. If you do not have a Strava account, register first.
  2. You can select to sync all of your Moves, only rides or only runs with Strava. You also have an option to turn syncing off.
  3. After the next Movescount sync, your new Moves will be automatically transferred to Strava.
  4. Only new activities will sync to Strava automatically. Activities without GPS data and any lap data will not sync.

Occasionally, we experience temporary outages or delays in the syncing service between Movescount and Strava. Remember, activities without GPS data will not sync to Strava at this time. In the event that your Suunto activity is not synced from Movescount to Strava, you may be able to manually import your activities to Strava by following these steps:

  1. After you sync your watch go to "My Moves" in Movescount.
  2. Click on the icon showing the Move you want to export in the calendar on the right so it loads that Move on the left panel.
  3. Click on Tools in the upper right-hand corner and choose the format you'd like to export the Move in. Only .TCX, .GPX, and .FIT files can be uploaded to Strava.
  4. Save it to your desktop and then log in to Strava and click Upload Activity in the upper right. Select the file you just saved for upload.

  • Yep. Having the same problems here. Suunto Ambit to Movescount uploads within seconds… Yet there is no uploading the moves to Strava anymore… which is a bit of a nuisance. And I wonder why that is. And if there's a solution. And why I should keep paying for Strava Premium membership if simple uploads do not work anymore.

  • Same problem here, having the Ambit 3 Peak, synced move is showing immediately on the strava website but hours later in the iPhone App. Also have the problem with wrong start time. Movescount shows the correct start time but according to Strava the starttime was 2 hours later!! Therefore the flybys are useless!

  • Last 3 days my moves not syncing with Strava. Nothing has changed as far as I know. Any idea what might be causing this?

  • I belive this is a Suunto bug.
TCX files from Suunto (synced to strava) have incorrect timestamps.
I have compared a GPX and TCX for the same activity to confirm this.

GPX files however are fine so manually importing GPX files are a workaround today.
Manually importing TCX files give the same result as the autosync.

Please make a request to Suunto to fix this! The more request the quicker fix!

  • Same problem as the rest of the users here. My moves were uploading flawlessly into Strava for months and then since March 18, they stopped. I had the latest movescount for a week and moves were uploading fine until the weekend. What's going on with Suunto or Strava?

  • Same here. It's really frustrating as I would like to show my friends the latest track right away. Guess we will have to wait again... not a good way of dealing with this problem, same thing happens regularly.

  • Glad Suunto have fixed the time stamp issue, but I'm still having the problem which I think started this thread, which is activities from Movescount occasionally (and again today) not uploading to Strava at all. Any ideas?

  • Like Helen Foley, my movescount activities are no longer syncing to strava. I have have updated my strava phone app and Ambit3 software but still no luck. Very disappointing! Guess I won't be using strava as much anymore.

  • Hi everyone,

Suunto/Movescount syncing was temporarily down over the weekend, but they've fixed the issue and will be pushing all failed activities over to Strava over the course of the day. Please see the following link for updates on the known issue. https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000251724-Suunto-Movescount-stopped-syncing-to-Strava

    Thanks for your patience!

  • Good news you can now connect your Suunto Ambit/Ambit2/Ambit3 watch directly to Strava from Android with a new app. No need to use a PC or the Movescount site. Just connect the watch with USB to the phone and sync your rides and runs directly with Strava. The integration is really neat, if you have the Strava app installed then it even sends you a notification to edit the name of the activity or add your running shoes/bike and so on.

Search for Ambit Connect on the Play Store or use the link below:

    http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greenpeakdigital.ambitconnect

    Enjoy!

  • Bill, are these open water or pool swimming activities? Strava only accepts activities with GPS, which means no pool swimming. Not sure why your files aren't uploading it they're from open water swimming activities.

  • Auto-sync from Movescount to Strava broken since middle of last week. My latest moves are not visible on Strava.

What to do in such a case? Is there a manual placeholder? Does that help to disconnect and reconnect Strava on the Movescount platform?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Due to the nature of how activity syncing is set up across different platforms (all syncing comes through our API) we occasionally hear of a delay before the activity appears on Strava. When this happens, you have the choice to either manually transfer the activity to Strava instead of waiting, or to wait, or to re-trigger the sync. This can be done by deleting and re-uploading the activity to MovesCount.

  • Hi folks! If you check our homepage you'll see this listed as a known issue. The issue is coming from Suunto, and we're waiting to hear an update from them on a fix. Thanks.

  • Same here, have a Suunto Ambit2 and syncing from movescount to strava results in incorrect starting time of the activity, even if it shows the correct start time in movescount. How can I fix this?

  • My Suunto Movescount just wont sync with Strava even after more than 6 hours of run/swim today with GPS ON. And what's the point of having this page when all I see are questions and venting from users without any response or advise from Strava?

  • Hi same here with swimming, today swam 2020 meters indoor pool according to movescount, but 1940 meters according to strava. Indoor pool there is no GPS involved, right? How come Strava messes that up, there's no independent calculation!! The device is Ambit 3 peak
