Occasionally, we hear of issues or delays in syncing your Garmin Connect data to Strava. Setting up the sync is explained in the article on Uploading from a Garmin device.
I get an authorization error, or blank page, when trying to connect my Garmin and Strava accounts on the website. How do I troubleshoot?
Clear your browser cache and try to connect again.
If you have a mobile phone, please try connecting through the Strava mobile app (from Settings page and "Link Other Services"). Or, try connecting using the browser on your phone.
Recently, Garmin made a change to their servers for customers in China and it’s causing errors with account creation, activity syncing and the Strava Live Segments feature. There is no solution at this time, and we recommend uploading files directly to Strava as explained below.
I just connected my Garmin and Strava accounts. What now?
After linking Garmin and Strava for the first time, you'll need a new upload to trigger the sync. So, go out and record a new activity even if it's just a short test. After the first new upload syncs to Strava, your Garmin Connect activity history for the past 90 days will also sync within 24 hours.
I uploaded to Garmin Connect a while ago, but I still don't see the activity on Strava. What gives?
We see occasional delays in receiving data from Garmin Connect, especially during peak upload times. While the sync functionality will usually take just a few minutes, sometimes there are delays of up to 12 hours.
You can check whether Garmin Sync is working by checking out their status page and referring to the "Strava" status (6th from the bottom). The Strava status page also displays uploads from Garmin Connect.
If you find yourself in this situation and don't want to wait, you can use any of the below workarounds:
- Upload directly to Strava by connecting your device to your computer with a USB cable. Use the file upload option.
- Export the TCX or GPX file from Garmin Connect, and save the file to your computer. Use the same file upload option as described above.
- Delete the Garmin Connect activity, and re-sync your Garmin to upload the file to Garmin Connect again. This will trigger a new sync attempt to Strava.
- Contact us by submitting a ticket. There may be an error when trying to upload your Garmin file to Strava and our Support team can advise.
No activities are syncing to Strava, even after uploading a new activity to Garmin Connect. How can I start over?
One way to ensure a refreshed connection between Garmin Connect and Strava is to disconnect Garmin Sync from your Strava settings, then reconnect. To disconnect, visit Settings in the mobile app or website, and select "disconnect". To reconnect, follow the authorization flow after selecting connect.
Remember, Garmin sync is not triggered until the first new activity is uploaded to Garmin after your accounts are reconnected. At that point, Garmin will sync the new activity to Strava, and check your 90-day activity history and sync any missing files to Strava as well. This can be performed with a short test activity that is later deleted.
I mark my activities as private on Garmin Connect, but they're public on Strava. How come?
Privacy settings on your Garmin Connect account are not synced with Strava. However, Strava has a privacy feature to mark all new uploads as private by default.
