  • i have that problem too

  • same with me photos won't synch!

  • Hello Strava Users! Can you check and make sure that your Instagram account is set to public and NOT private? If private, the Instagram photos will not post to Strava unless you share each Instagram to a social media site like Twitter/Facebook beforehand.

  • Same problem! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  Very frustrating!   :-(

  • I posted to facebook first, then to instagram during my ride and NOTHING.  Tried synching.....and still nothing.  Shouldn't be this hard to post one picture.

  • Can not get my pics on strava My pics don,t even show up on my instagram log in. Why is it so hard to get sufficient help?

  • Michael - did you get this sorted yet?

Todd, I believe your issues were due to a private Instagram account, and Victor it looks like your photos are showing now.

Let us know if we can help with anything else!

  • My Instagram account is set to public, I force the Sync Photos in Strava Tools and nothing happens. Really frustrating...

  • Hi Ivan, Sorry for the trouble! I just responded to your support ticket, so hopefully we can figure it out there.

  • Hi Elle,

I tried Instagram with Strava for the first time today and even though it the Strava mobile app says there are 5 photos, selecting the link just shows the message "Couldn't load photo".

When I view the ride through the web site, there is no indication any photos were taken.

I originally had my Instagram account set to private, but have since set it to public but it does not seem to have had any effect.

I tried selecting "Sync Photos" from the Strava web site, but this doesn't seem to do anything.

N.B. I had taken 5 photos originally then deleted 3 from Instagram but the Strava mobile app still says 5.

Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

  • same hre.

  • @Keven and Manuel,

I believe that Instagram photos taken when your profile was Private remain private. And Private instagrams won't be synced with Strava. If you share private photos to any compatible social media (FB, Twitter) then they will sync with Strava.

So I'm guessing that new photos you take when your Instagram profile is Public WILL work on Strava.

Let me know if that's the case or not!

  • I have noticed that i  have to upload to instgram before synching garmin with strava. If I upload my activity and then do pictures it does not work

  • Christina - we have a button under the "wrench" menu on the activity page to "Sync Photos". This can be handy for missing photos on an Activity page if the activity is uploaded before the photos. Also important to remember that the photos need to be uploaded to instagram no more than 45 minutes after the end of the activity.

  • Hello,

Same issue here.... Can't get my pictures to show up next to my activty...

BTW, you should really add a manual picture functionnality, this would be much much more convenient !!!  ;)

  • @Christina : "Also important to remember that the photos need to be uploaded to instagram no more than 45 minutes after the end of the activity. "

This is typically somthing often impossible... Can't get access to network, Out of or saving some battery....

  • RV B - Please also try the simple trick of disconnecting your Instagram account then reconnecting again. This has caused some cases of missing instagram photos to resolve themselves. Keep us posted!

  • I don't have a "wrench".  Where am I supposed to be looking for a wrench so I can select "sync photos"?  Are you talking about on my phone or at a computer when I get back from my ride?  Also, if my Instagram account was set to "private" during my ride and during my picture uploads, will it still work?  I agree with the above comments about the 45 mins thing.  Many times I have no signal as I may do multiple rides (5 days of riding) in a remote area with little to no signal.

  • Hi Marc,

The "wrench" icon is found on the activity details page when viewing an activity via the Strava website.

If your Instagram was set to Private, all photos uploaded to Instagram during that privacy setting will still be private. However, once you change your Instagram account to Public (if you choose) then all future picture uploads will be public.

For the photos that remain Private, simply share each picture to a social outlet or via email and the photos will then be able to show on Strava. You can use the "Sync" trick above to get them to show.

  • Hi,

For some reason, recent Instagram photos are not showing up. Only ones from months ago. When I disconnect and reconnect, only the old photos show up. I check and my photos are public.

Again, this just happened about a month ago.

  • Hi,

Ignore my previous post. It turned out that when I upgraded Instagram, the "Posts are Private" option under "edit profile" defaulted to "on"

  • Hi Elle,

Based on your comment below, are you suggesting we can upload photos to Facebook and they will upload to Strava?  If that's the case, can we remove our Instagram account?

    Thanks, Dale

  • Sorry Dale, what I meant is that if your Instagram account is set to private, then all your Instagram photos will be private and will not be accessible to show on Strava. BUT - if you share an Instagram photo to Facebook or Twitter, just that photo becomes public and will appear on Strava then.

    Does that help clarify?

    Sorry for the confusion.

  • This was puzzling me for ages but the instagram private thing makes sense now.  I don't want to open to make by instagram account public or keep uploading to other social media sites so I've found if you upload your photo you've taken to instagram then share and hit the e-mail option it will add it to an e-mail message, you can then just cancel the message and it will still sync to strava.  It's best workaround I can see, pain but there we go.

  • the Instagram synch is totally random, sometimes it works others, I have to disconnect instagram and connect again... what's this rule about upload within 45 min of the ride ends? doesn't make sense. I upload same day, but usually within a couple of hours. Surely you guys can make it work abit more flexible....

  • Nicolai, they don't want to make it more flexible in order to avoid people "cheating"

  • Christian - I'm not sure where you heard the cheating theory, but internally I believe the conversation was around relevant content. If we made the time constraints too open around which instagram photos are included in Strava activities, we would see a greater number of photos NOT related to your activity. We tried to strike a balance for those users who use their instagram accounts for other reasons not just for documenting their rides. However, I understand there are those who would like to see the current time constraints extended.

  • I noticed that if I upload the photos to Instagram before uploading the data from my Garmin device to Strava, most of the  photos will sync (with some missing sometimes). Now, if I upload to Strava prior to upload photos to Instagram, even using the button "Sync Photos", they never sync.

  • "the photos need to be uploaded to instagram no more than 45 minutes after the end of the activity."

I sure hope this is something that will get fixed on Strava.  Ideally, we could pick photos to go with our activities or routes no matter when they are uploaded.  Using a Garmin 810 and Tapiirik, my activities are uploaded automatically, a long time before I get around to posting photos on Instagram.

  • @Donald, Sounds like you agree with the discussion found on this post!
