Strava on Windows phones

Strava does not offer an App for Windows Phones or Windows 10 and unfortunately, we do we have plans to support this operating system in the future. However, there are a handful of options or workarounds recommended by our community so that you can still post your GPS data to Strava:

  1. CycloMeter App: From the CycloMeter App, there is a plugin that can be purchased for a small amount to allow data to be automatically published to Strava.
  2. Cycle Tracks GPS: Similarly, publishing data to Strava from this app is a one-time add-on purchase.
  3. Run the Map
  4. Run.GPS
  5. Cyclers app for Windows phones

  • Come on Strava. A Windows Phone Strava App is surely a must by now........Windows phone are the biggest growing market in the mobile phone market so surely you must realise you are missing a huge percentage of the population

  • I've noticed that Strava now supports uploading from a bunch of different devices now including Suunto, Timex, Tomtom, Soleus and, of course, Garmin and the ios and android apps.  So it seems like Strava is open to other devices.  What's preventing the addition of a Windows Phone app?  I can understand that in san francisco where you folks are located windows phone may not yet have a large installed base but there are certainly parts of the world where windows phone users are significant and growing.  What's it going to take Strava?

  • Another confused Windows phone owner right here. There are thousands and thousands of potential customers awaiting daily deployment of  Strava app for WP. Pushing these customers to business rivals is pretty bizzare. Not graspping such a business opportunity even more!

  • C'mon guys, just get us a Windows Phone app already. At this stage you're just deliberately ignoring us out of some misplaced bias against the platform. It's really quite pathetic. I'd like to go premium but do you really think I'd pay for something when an app for my phone doesn't even exist? And yet you build apps for the Apple Watch which isn't even released yet? And you build apps for the innumerate number of poorly selling GPS platforms.

    Get over yourselves guys.

I recently bought a Microsoft Band that has cycling mode, and it's amazing. Why should I continue to use Strava when there are so many better alternatives to what you provide?

  • I'm confused why Windows Phone users are surprised/disappointed that some apps aren't available on Windows Phone. The latest numbers I'm seeing show that 99.6% of phones sold last quarter were running Android or iOS.

I'll put it this way, at a bike rally with 1,000 smartphone-using riders , 996 of them use Android/iOS devices, and only three of them use Windows Phones. Three!?

Don't get me wrong, I actually want more competition in the mobile device OS space, and wish Windows had more market share. I have a Windows phone for work. but put yourself in the shoes of a big app developer like Strava, and it absolutely doesn't make any sense whatsoever to allocate their finite development and testing resources away from the 99.6% user base.

  • I'm using an app called "Cyclers" on my Lumina 820 and it's a pretty good app. It's basicaly a strava for windows phone made by someone and its working perfectly. Thank you if you reading this and I recommend Cyclers while Strava continues to ignore us.

  • There is a strava app, its called chaser.  unfortunately strava changed their api and would not support these folks when they tried to update it... as it was private.   i call bs on that, ok if you don't have enough users on win to justify not develop in house, but when an external private team is willing to do it, support it, and HAS/ "had"  a large existing user base... it just doesn't make sense and seems there is something more sinister afoot...

  • Another one wanting a WP app. I would pay for premium, however I will not do so without a dedicated app. I don't care about workarounds to record/upload data as I use my Garmin for that. I want to be able to use the social/tracking aspects via mobile. You know, what premium is designed for.

  • Jeff McAhren: It's not about windows phone. It's about Windows 10 in general. Application written for windows 10 with responsive UI (in similar way web pages working on all form factors) run on windows desktops, tablets, xbox and phones as well. At the moment windwos 10 user base is about 500 hundred mil..

  • @andrea,  Try Striver, it can upload directly to Strava. You have to purchase that option but its a very small amount.   I have had good luck with it.  -Bob

  • "At this time, Strava does not have an App for Windows Phones, unfortunately"

Unfortunately sounds like an admission that there should be a Windows Phone app then. Sounds good.

Hopefully with Windows 10 set to take off far better than Windows 8, and Windows Phone 10 looking very good, plus Microsoft providing tools for easy cross platform development then it's going to get harder to ignore Windows Phone.

I'm finding many of the major players have something out there now. Including Endomondo, one of your major competitors. Let's not forget Sports Tracker who pretty much started all this back in Symbian days and are still going with a Windows Phone app, even though they have been largely relegated to nothing by Strava ;)

  • When do you have plans to build a Windows 10 App? An estimated 1 billion users will be running Windows 10 by 2022, they engineered the Universal Windows App platform to make porting easy for developers. Will STRAVA be getting on board with UWA, if not why? It's a huge market share and with their recent acquisition of LinkedIn, it allows scalability into the markets active cyclist exist. I love my experience on Windows 10 mobile device - it's time for the Strava development team to look at the future. Get the Windows 10 community an App!

  • How hard is it to make an app for WP Strava?  I know a lot of people that would use this.  Run the Map is good for recording but it is outside the echo system.  I want to give my friend kudos and comment on their runs.  Please make a WP app.

  • another user keen on an app for Windows. I've changed companies and swapped from iPhone to Windows. I couldn't believe that Strava didnt have a Windows app. While I'd be happy to pay for it it may just be the time to move on from Strava.... and you know...... just ride for the hell of it.

  • Bob, I'm with Alexey and also use Cyclers. If you go back through the comments you will see other apps that people use and have been happy with. The main reasons I stick with Cyclers is that it is simple to use, has been reliable and uploads to Strava is included in the free version.

  • Today my Garmin ran out of battery just before my ride, and all I had left was my Window phone. I installed Runtastic and uploaded the app to their site. They don't have an exporter, but then I ran into this beautiful trick: http://blog.favo.org/post/56040226362/export-all-activities-from-runtastic-as-tcx

Basically - all it takes is to go to the Runtastic site, open the list of activities, and (using the web developer tools of your browser - I've used the Scratchpad in Firefox) run that JavaScript snippet - et voila' - the activities are in a TCX file which you can then upload to Strava!

  • I'm going back to Windows after trying out an iPhone for a while, wich I find really annoying. The only benefit is beeing able to use Strava and a couple of other apps. So please make a proper one. It's a good platform. I'm considering a premium account too.

  • Windows 10 Mobile as a platform is just on maintenance really, though getting regular builds. However there's still a future for Windows on any device, including potential future mobile devices, and more importantly the UWP app platform is still being pushed. Microsoft still want to get desktop apps being pushed through the app store as UWP or hybrid apps for desktop and tablet. Write a Strava app for that, and it's available for mobile if you like, easily. But still it's a hard push for Microsoft. They've just launched yet more Android/iOS apps, including their Edge browser!

Myself, my beloved 640 is semi-retired or repurposed as a work phone and I'm back on Android. I now have Strava again amongst other apps, but I still don't like Android that much.

  • I don't understand one little thing: why I should pay for premium account, while it's imperfect 'cause lack of WP app. @Elle - we don't need support of third party application, we need native app for Windows Phone. Your premium account is twice as expensive compared to Endomondo, which has applications for all platforms!

I had two phones with Android and never again! I chose Windows Phone because it is much better system and I'm not going to change the phone for a single, little overpriced application :/
