Swimming support with Apple Watch

Hi I have been given an apple watch for Christmas and I was wondering if there is every going to be able to either  upload swims straight from the apple watch activity app or have the swim feature in the watch addition app

  • Agreed. Integration with Apple Watch for swimming should be a priority. :-)

  • Is there any news regarding this feature?

  • Please add pool swim integration with iwatch!

  • Why no support for swimming on the Apple Watch yet? It's available on Garmin? Apple's activity app does a good job at it.

Please add support! Even if it was just for premium users I'd buy a subscription!

Another vote for integration of Swim data from Apple Watch 2 into Strava.

Why? Well, we all have our preferred tracking  ‘ecosystems’ ( Strava, Apple Workout, MapMyRide etc) but the once you have chosen and are using one, you kinda want everything in one place. Strava is clearly out there with Run and Cycle. But I am forced to stick with the Apple Workout app ( very limited) as swimming is important to me.

I am ready to switch fully to Strava only  and willing to pay a premium, but no point until Swim is in there. It seems many triathletes with the budget for  bikes and Apple Watch 2  feel the same.

  • Yes- Please add swim tracking to the Apple Watch app.  It is the only reason I have not fully switched over to Strava for everything...  Thank you.

  • Yes please. I’d love this option too.

  • Strava has a huge Triathlete community and doesn't support swim from modern wearable devices??? We're now to the Series 3 Apple watch and nothing has changed. Strava needs to sieze the day with swim tracking or get left behind when someone else offers triathletes a better experience for tracking all 3 legs of their sport.

  • Update on a previous post I made on this thread - I have been using Swim Exporter (from the App Store) to upload my pool swims from AW2, but recently saw a post here that recommends HealthFit to upload swims to Strava. So I used it and thought I'd post my findings. There is a simple difference -

HealthFit delivered really clean lap times, separated by rest times and pretty accurate 100m splits, but no HR data.

Swim Exporter delivers HR (which is good for Suffer Score and Fitness/Fatigue tracking), but no consistent splits.

Both were accurate for distance, overall time and moving time.

So I have a dilemma now - which to use. Personally I think I'll stick with the HR data and inconsistent splits on Swim Exporter, but I sure did love the HealthFit data (I think I've missed my chance to make it to the Nationals this year, so my splits are pretty irrelevant. Well, actually I'll never make it to the Nationals...). Perhaps when Strava go there you can incorporate both - worth taking a look at both of these I think.

  • Roadmap on Swimming please.. frustrates me cause I just paid for a year of premium and kind of regretting it. From a triathlete perspective Strava is a let down but I’m a creature of habit and I don’t want to start all over on Training Peaks.

Oh it would be nice if I could access fitness and freshness in the app.

  • We are in early 2018 but no trace of the update ... I am getting impatient.

    What's your roadmap ? thanks

  • Looking forward to this! How is progress coming? Is there a more specific release date for this feature?

  • It is now July 2018 and I am just wondering if any progress has been made in regards to recording swims in Strava on the apple watch.  Maybe I just don't know how to do it, but it seems like it is still not possible....

    Thanks

  • Any update on this front Strava? If you pulled in the same data as RunGap even if this was a premium feature I’d appreciate it.

  • Strava, could you please provide an update on this topic to the forum?

  • Hello Strava Team, following up on your last comment from the end of 2017, that this would be on the roadmap for early 2018.

  • I would love to see this too.  Cycling, Running, and Swimming auto-sync with Apple Watch would be an excellent feature.   The Apple Watch is excellent, but adding the workout manually to Strava is an extra step and once it's added manually actually creates a duplication in the Watch Activity summary (once for the Watch Activity record, and once for Strava download sync after it's manually added).

    Please?

  • I don't think the issue is that we can't use swimexporter or some other method. What the request is for Strava to support Swimming natively like they do running and cycling.

I mean, to be honest I can count how many times people suggest my swim pro or the swim exporter. But I would love to use strava for swimming natively.

  • I read through the posts, but didn't see one from Strava.  I had very good luck with yesterday's release for Apple Watch 2 on my bike.  Now that the AW2 release is out, is a swimming function in our near future?

  • Strava Pro user here... please add swim support to Apple Watch 2 or my $$'s may have to go elsewhere!

  • Thanks for replying Shelby. I'm gonna have to cancel my subscription if this is not implemented soon. At least having a simple swim function will be awesome for the mean time.

  • Same here, and I really didn't want to cancel. But it's £72 a year down the drain without an iWatch swim function.

Even being able to export swims to Strava would suffice. But, I don't think Apple export the data.

  • I discovered strava quite recently and I loved it for tracking running and biking. I immediately upgraded using the one month free trial.
Unfortunately, without beeing able to record swim this is just another incomplete app like so many other. For the moment I swiched back to the fitbit app.

  • If you go to the Activity app on your phone, go to Workouts and select a Pool Swim, there is a Share button which brings up a Share sheet - surely Strava could use this method??

  • If full swim support isn't planned or possible, I would at least like some way to sync my Apple Watch swims into Strava. I use the Strava app for running and biking and it's frustrating that I don't have one place to view all 3 parts of my workouts.

  • Swimming on the Strava Apple Watch app should definitely be made available to paying members. Come on, so many people are asking for swimming to.

  • Well as they say, vote with your wallet - I have removed my monthly subscription until swim functionality is built into the Strava app (or the intention to implement is announced). I like Strava quite a bit, but until the service is expanded you'll just have to keep me as a standard member.

  • I have done the same as Matt Cowlrick, stopped my premium subscription. Add swim to the Apple watch app. Please
