Swimming support with Apple Watch

Hi I have been given an apple watch for Christmas and I was wondering if there is every going to be able to either  upload swims straight from the apple watch activity app or have the swim feature in the watch addition app

Hello, I suppose the integration with health you were referring to is the basic integration made so that cycling/running workouts talk to each other via strava and health - However, Swimming is still not integrated as well as any other workout for strava is not being written as such. Any other workout that is not running/cycling doesn't get registered correctly in strava (or not registered at all) for example:

I do a swim with the workout app in the watch, it doesn't get written in strava at all (if you guys integrated, it should have?) if it was properly integrated as mentioned in the pinned post? or did I assume that it was going to be integrated as swimming as its own thing like running and cycling are? if i do the inverse and post first to strava manually as swimming, health just registers it as "workout" and doesn't get that it was a swim.

It would be useful for strava devs that have posted here to be more specific or maybe not respond for the sake of responding and follow up? This thread is over a year old and iOS 5 is around the corner and they have been adding new features. It would be nice to know that someone in strava is actually thinking about integrating more things other than running and cycling? Considering strava has options for things like "skiing"

Swimming is your 3rd main activity in the app on the phone (it is also on the UI for activities even), I don't see why it is not it's own focus.

    Thanks.

  • I have good luck exporting .fit files from the swim.com app then importing into Strava. HR and a couple things do not move over, but splits etc to. I love swim.com on my Series 2 watch. Also find the Apple Activity App works well on OWS sessions.

  • It is now July 2018 and I am just wondering if any progress has been made in regards to recording swims in Strava on the apple watch.  Maybe I just don't know how to do it, but it seems like it is still not possible....

    Thanks

  • Any update on this front Strava? If you pulled in the same data as RunGap even if this was a premium feature I’d appreciate it.

  • Just keeping the question coming, what's the roadmap for swimming support in the watch app?

  • Hello Strava Team, your last comment is from the end of 2017. What about a swimming app? ignoring the requests is not so friendly;)

  • Run Gap will definitely get the data moved over from workout to Strava but it would be awesome if Strava supported the swim workout natively.

  • Hello Strava Team, following up on your last comment from the end of 2017, that this would be on the roadmap for early 2018.

  • Can Strava support swimming on Apple watches please?

  • Hi Strava Team,

Anything on when we can start recording swimming with our app on the watch?
I swim more than I bike, so I would only go premium when swimming gets supported...

    Thanks,

    Richard

  • Hey Strava! Thank you for adding support for MySwimPro I could not be more appreciative.

  • Strava, I really hope the MySwimPro integration is not a replacement for adding swim support for the watch.  If there wasn't a fee associated with MySwimPro, that might be ok, but for triathlons, we really need all three events in one place.  Thanks

  • A tweet to Stravasupport might do the trick. I just did. Let’s see what happens.

  • I'm not sure how this cannot be "popular" with the team...it has 195 responses - how many more do you need?
I think a piece of advice to the team is the following: If you are ever commenting about a roadmap in a thread again, be prepared to continue to talk about it and not hide away when people ask questions. When developers talk about roadmaps they should be prepared.

I am disappointed that My swim pro got integrated but Strava is not fully integrated yet like they do with cycling and running. Don't misunderstand, my swim pro is great, but the idea is the strava actually supports swimming natively, like they do cycling and running. Not just port over third party apps.

I have seen multiple updates since this thread got started and I still don't understand why this is not a thing yet.
I'm completely reconsidering my premium (or whatever is called now) if there is no satisfactory response. No, "I'm going to tell the team this is popular" is not the appropriate response. I'm sure Jess you have read this thread in its entirety, if not, I suggest you do.

    Thanks

  • Just fixing the ability for strava to import swim data from health kit would do for me....is it really that hard to read data from HealthKit? A explaination of some sort is required and pronto ignoring us is not helpful.

  • It‘s misleading that Strava supports swimming, it doesn‘t. I have to find another app

  • I just bought my Apple Watch and pushed all my Strava data to the health app, but no swimming data made it! Not sure why swimming didn’t go through and everything else did! Seems like a silly inconsistency! The people have spoken!

  • The title of this thread needs to be updated to “Swimming support with Apple Watch 4”. Lost for words...

  • If you are here, you must be really disappointed to find not response at all. I suggest start taking out stars on apple App Store to see if the attention changes.

  • I must say it again. I and other posters have mentioned many times the excellent app which flawlessly transfers swims recorded with the Apple workout app to Strava. It’s called Swim exporter. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/swim-exporter/id1227272243?mt=8

I have been using this to transfer swims to Strava for years already. Please pay the $2 and quit whining.

  • The ask is for a solution, using another app is a workaround at best and not a solution.

  • Having just brought an Apple Watch 4 after my previous multi sport watch broke, I’m aghast that Strava don’t include a swim function.  The ability to do this is obviously there as other workarounds prove, but since Strava want you to be the one platform for logging activities, why don’t they listen to their users, especially paying Summit members. Though given the lack of responses to the Zwift community for similar simple requests, I’m not surprised.

  • I would love to see this too.  Cycling, Running, and Swimming auto-sync with Apple Watch would be an excellent feature.   The Apple Watch is excellent, but adding the workout manually to Strava is an extra step and once it's added manually actually creates a duplication in the Watch Activity summary (once for the Watch Activity record, and once for Strava download sync after it's manually added).

    Please?

  • It's amazing how many people are requesting the Swim be added to the app for the Apple Watch. With all these comments in here, I would think that the developers of Strava would make this a priority rather than reply that it is not in the pipeline for now!!

Someone knock on their door and wake them up!!

  • I’ve been watching thsee comments for 18months now and find it astounding that with all the customer feedback Strava don’t make this a priority and put a couple of people on it to even just avoid bad PR. So poor.,,.

  • Why does the Strava app promote itself with the tag line “Strava: Run, Ride, Swim” when you can’t natively track swimming apps with the Strava Apple Watch app??
