Swimming support with Apple Watch

Hi I have been given an apple watch for Christmas and I was wondering if there is every going to be able to either  upload swims straight from the apple watch activity app or have the swim feature in the watch addition app

  • I started using swim exporter as recommended by a user on this forum and while it is not the ideal situation, it works great.

  • I pay for my strava account because I feel it’s worth it. I would love to see this functionality added. Apple have made great strides to meet the needs and reflect trends in fitness trackers. Swimming/water brings its own challenges and they’ve overcome a lot of issues for the person who likes a little data to help them improve. I’m surprised that Strava hasn’t sought to seek smoother integration.

  • Swim exporter allows you to push your swim data perfectly to the strava app. I highly recommend it.

  • I don't think the issue is that we can't use swimexporter or some other method. What the request is for Strava to support Swimming natively like they do running and cycling.

I mean, to be honest I can count how many times people suggest my swim pro or the swim exporter. But I would love to use strava for swimming natively.

  • Swim integration for Apple watch! baffled that its not already there??? personally letting my Membership laps in favour of apps with swim integration for apple watch. manually uploading is possible but a pain and seems a waste of time when other apps do it for you..

  • Found a workaround on DC Rainmaker’s review of the Apple Watch Series 4. You just need to get the HealthFit App on the App Store (it takes your swim data from your Health App and syncs it with Strava). Works perfectly.

The HealthFit App does cost US$2.

  • Agree it is disappointing that strava have not actioned anything despite a couple of years worth of comment on this thread - have paid GBP 1.99 for swim exporter and I agree it works very well.

  • Swimming!!!!!! Help !!!!!!!!

Hi i note this has been discussed but i have an apple watch V3 and no way of recording my swims via Strava which is a real shame, please allow this to work or give us an easier way of recording swims on strava.

    Please.

  • Hi Guys,

It has been mentioned before, but personally, I am using MySwimPro to record my swims, you can auto-post your workouts on Strava as well. This works even with the free version of MySwimPro, you do not need to pay for this.

The app is alright if you are a real swimmer it might be worth considering this app over Strava, to be honest. However, must of us are triathletes or at least doing 2 out of the 3. Personally, I still do not go premium out of a principle that I can not use Strava natively on the Apple watch.

    Goodluck,

    Cheers,

    Richard

  • Guys, you must work to support swim on AppleWatch. It’s crucial for those who had it since no one swim with cellphone. Doesn’t seem to me something that requires to much investment and complexity. Please work on it!!

  • 2 years old post and still no Swimming on Apple. Feels like Strava gives zero fucks about their potential and existing customers?

  • Uhhhh or it just shows that they are incapable of this integration or the cost is just way too high. Chill bro.

  • My guess is the Apple swimming app is protected by a patent and Strava can't or doesn't have the capability to produce one for themselves without violating the patent.  Or Strava won't pay the asking price for a use license from Apple. Just download the free MyswimPro app. It works ok (not as good as the Apple Swim app) but good enough and it automatically uploads to starva. Try it.

  • I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but If you buy the healthfit app it will automatically upload apple swimming app to Strava.

  • I just paid the $1.99 for the Swim Exporter iPhone App. Seems to work and is very straightforward. I had to manually sync each of my 40 swim workouts, which took a few minutes, but now I have a history of my swim workouts in Strava along with my run and bike history.

Not sure why Strava isn’t responding to this demand, but glad this workaround was recommended.

  • OK, so I’ve been using the Swim Exporter app and it’s very easy to export all of my swim data into Strava.

However, after I export my swim data from my iPhone to Strava, Strava then syncs back to my iPhone, and writes the same swim workout back to Activity so it now appears twice in my iPhone Activity app (once from Watch and once Fromm Strava).

Does anyone using Swim Exporter know how to fix this?

  • Coming up on three years for this unanswered request.  I used the HealthFit app from Stephane Lizeray after failing to get the stickybits apps to register runs.

Here is the link again for HealthFit:  https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/healthfit/id1202650514?mt=8

A search did not find it on the app store but the link sufficed.

Strava, I think you owe the community an explanation of why this has not been implemented natively and whether or not it will be in the future.

  • Guessing it's 'no' at this point. My opinion, but until the AW has the battery umph to last a full IM, it won't be taken seriously by the community at large, and Strava specifically.

I continue to have good luck using swim.com in the pool, exporting the .fit file at the end, and importing that .fit into Strava. Using the native Apple Activity App for open water, and just doing a manual entry.

  • About as likely as me ever paying for Strava. A company that obviously cares nothing for the opinions of there customer. So bad they are that they can’t even offer an explanation.
