Photos disappear from the Profile page

I take a lot of photos each event and all of a sudden on my profile page there are only 56 photos going back 2 weeks. Yet other people have >180 photos still on their profile page?  Taking photos and looking back is fun for me, so can  you please explain.

Thanks

Strava displays 100 of your most recent photos on your profile page.

However, all of your photos are still available on the activity page where they were uploaded. Strava does not delete or remove any photos.

There are two reasons why you may see more than or less than 100 photos on your profile:

    1. Photos synced from Instagram are not included in the maximum photo limit, which will result in your profile showing more than 100 photos.

    2. When you delete a photo that was already uploaded, it remains included in your total count of 100 profile photos which may cause your profile to show less than 100 photos.

  • Hi Elle,

One of the best features that Strava community had was the photo feed/flow. Once users see a place they like, they click on the "go to activity", find out where the place/map is and in many cases (as I do) create routes , triggers engagements etc.

This is (was) a great social feature of Strava which once limited to a few months/pictures back, it makes it pretty much irrelevant.

Once the  pictures as early as a few months ago are not in the profile page feed anymore, they are inexistent de facto. I really don't care if they are still attached to the activities as long I can't reach them- unless knowing exactly what the activity is,  search it by name etc...

So, a great  feature has been taken away. I saw already some reactions similar to mine and it would be great if you can pass on the message to reinstate the Photo feed as it was before. .

While I sympathize with the performance issues, it should not be a reason not to reinstate this back for the paying customers and, not only I hasten to add.

    Thanks

PS. I've opened a ticket last year with the customer service, and got a similar reply, performance issues and outages.

  • Elle,

With all due respect, and there is respect for your personal efforts to contain the reactions to this Strava one sided decision, what's really "unfortunate" here is Strava not listening to customers being them paying ones or not.

It's 2017 and the lack of ability to show a continuous full photos feed , citing performance issues, is downright comical.  A picture feed ? Seriously ?

Add this weirdo "picture quota system" where when you delete a picture from the already meager  "100 pics limitation", you lose that "slot" forever the allocated number is decreasing continuously  (thanks Silvia D).  So, what's the explanation for this exceptional piece of programming ? It's a "feature" or just an  elaborated system to punish your users for deleting pictures ? I mean, c'mon...is there any common sense left in the house ?

All this really makes one wonder where Strava is really going with this.  It's gonna be Myspace or Facebook ?  I would imagine similar type of obfuscating tone deaf answers were sent out in their twilight days.

In the last interface update, it looks like Stava put great emphasis on being pictures centric, so this dichotomy  between what's going on in this feed (for months) and app/web pictures centric design is strange. The many negative feedbacks in the facebook page already created a petition at change.org to bring back the chronological feed. Elle, this is what's unfortunate actually, that your users need to go to change.org to make a point.

Thanks again for your personal  efforts, we'll probably transfer this conversation to @strava / facebook and change.org to make Strava's management listen to their customers/users while still they are.

    Regards / Bernardo

  • I was wondering about this also, I find that mine is limited to 38 photos, where others appear limited around 80. How can it be increased to the 100 as mentioned?

It appears all photos remain on activities, just not able to view once over the limit so also wondering if there will be a way to download all photos or will the limit be removed at some stage down the track?

  • Hello Elle,

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately it doesn't address what has been raised here, so let's try again :

What we are looking is for Strava to reinstate the original situation where we could access / view the entire feed of photos from the profile page feed. Being that 10 , 1000 or a gazillion.  Not only the last 100. Nothing to do with instagram, so let's leave that aside.

This was a working feature which has consciously been removed by Strava for both premium and non premium customers, without any notification whatsoever.

The reply cycles on this matter is rather slow ( 8 months ! and counting) and was wondering that taking this topic to Strava's twitter and facebook feed will generate the right amount to support this feature reinstated.

    Looking forward for your reply

  • Yeah, there is no consistency, nor any support with this...

Surely premium members should receive unlimited?

  • Hi Elle,

I only have 24 photos showing, not 100 as you mention in your official comment... Agree with Bernardo above, not having the photos easily available really does remove a great deal of the social element. I was hoping that upgrading to Premium would perhaps "boost" the profile but apparently not. Strava is great but would be even better if this could be sorted :)

    Cheers,

    Matt

  • Same here. I have 50 or more photos but only 20 are shown currently.

  • I tried to explain the same thing to strava a while back and am in agreement with the comments and frustrations above. Please allow all photos to be visible on the profile page, even if it requires scrolling left to bring more up on screen. It should be sequential.

I think people would rather click on the photo to view the activity, than dig around for the activity to find the photo.

If the photos are all there somewhere (100 limit?), what difference does it make? At least show 100!

    Regards

    Shaun

  • Another request here for the same function. Please make all photos available in the photo heading on the profile page.

Should be a basic thing right?!

  • Elle,

I removed photos at the beginning of this year because I was confronted with a limited feed all of the sudden (from infinite to 46!!!) - like we all have. I wanted to save the best ones and still be able to add more.

I can't seem to explain my problem to you. It's very simple: the moment I now add a new photo, the latest one (no. 46) disappears. Between my latest and oldest photo in my feed there are no deleted pics, since I know I have to work with only these 46 allowed pics.

When I delete a pic on let's say Twitter, my 'allowed' pic volume doesn't change, I can add new ones and I still see every photo. Funnily enough, I can happily bore my followers with zillions of them. Which I won't by the way ;)

We can put a vehicle on Mars, but Strava can't technically offer and support (uniform) pic storage on the profile pages of their members (like any other social media)?

Hope to hear from you and please, don't say that I caused this problem myself.

    Best regards,

    Silvia

  • This is probably the most annoying and nonsense strava limitation.

Could you fix this platform issue?

It would be great for us users, thank you.

  • Yep. The 100 limit is already a bit annoying. But still counting deleted pictures is just plain weirdness.

  • As promised, I have cancelled my Premium subscription until this issue is resolved. This limitation is scandalous.

  • Add me to the count of those upset with the "100 recent pictures" limitation.

It is not user-friendly to search through old weeks and individual workouts to find a picture. It decreases the functionality and enjoyment of Strava, and flies in the face of your efforts to make Strava a more social platform.

At the very least, make unlimited pictures on our profiles a feature available to those who financially support your platform, the Premium members.

  • This has become a progressively bigger problem for me also. I am now limited to only 9 photos on my profile and yes I am currently a paid premium member.

It’s crazy that I can only rotate 9 of the latest in my profle, that is nowhere near the 100 stated.

Now that I also use Golden Cheetah for analysis and training tracking, I really see no benefit to premium.

9 (nine) photos is all I am getting in profile...why?

  • Hi Elle,

I so agree with Bernardo and Matthew above and I was hoping we'd hear from you. To visualize the issue, I've made a screenshot of my own Strava profile page and that of another cyclist - we both aren't premium members. My page only shows 46 pics, hers 161. So sad to see all these great inspiring pics disappear everywhere, I'm even doubting on my rides now if i'm going to take and attach a photo, 'cause it will cost me another. We all like to show off a great climb or soaking socks ;)

    Hope this gets sorted...!

    Cheers,

    Silvia

  • Elle and Strava,

I appreciate the official comment and the revised policy went by without mearly and update mentio..all of a sudden instead of being able to go through all the past images you are limited to 8?!? I'd like to echo what others here have stated and could you please explain what you mean by "based on performance reasons"? I've discovered that the amount of my timeline photos suddenly went to 12!- In this day and age we can't see why with photo compression technology, images should slow down the site. Its not like people will want to pull those images and print them into a clossy blown-up 11x17 or anything..its just for reference. And pople use them for training reference as well using the image to record TSS (which you guys don't capture). I and i think that others can see this limitation for non-premiumium members but for us that pay i think we expect to be able to access those images as long as we are paying.

Strava is a social site and imagery is an important part of that. To have this archaic rule makes me just want to go to the free version. If all you are providing is maps and data (which is not really that robust in some casess...hello tss) what else is premium offering.

    thanks

    mark (premium member since '12)

  • Strava, please allow all historic photos to appear as we scroll through our profile pictures from most recent. If the photos are still stored, why not just sequence them. No one is going to dig around for an old activity to find a photo. More a photo should help find the activity.

  • Strava, you have really f*cked up.  Posting photos is an important part of Strava.  It's not exaggeration to say that I cherish my photo gallery.  It gives me a chance to relive many wonderful rides.  And it gives my new Strava friends an opportunity to get a sense of who I am - and literally where I've been.  We don't give a damn about new ways to give kudos.  Lots and lots of us really value our photos - now capped at an absurd and arbitrary 100.  Your message to us is:  "Those lost photos, they don't matter.  Valued premium member, we've downgraded your experience. Suck it up."  Strava, maybe YOU don't matter.  Why should I re-up my premium membership next month?  BRING BACK THE PHOTOS, and we'll talk.

  • Hi Elle,

Thanks for getting back to us! It does however not solve the issue for me and probably others: since the beginning of this year, my profile page all of the sudden shows only 46 photos, and as soon as I add another photo at the moment, the oldest one (no. 46) dissapears. So my total is constantly locked at 46 instead of around 100. I don't sync photos from Instagram, but according to your explanation that is not the problem in my case.

So I think there is a whole other (technical) problem going on for a lot of Strava members than what you described above.

    Can you please help out?

    Best regards,

    Silvia

  • Elle, Strava

I appreciate your official response and realize youre not deleting the photots, but not sure your answering what some are asking. I have 56 photos showing under the "PHOTOS" heading as of today 11/2/17. I have taken more than 56 photos and if I go back to the activity I can find them, but the questions is why aren't all photos showing --up to the 100 limit you stated-- under the "PHOTOS" heading on my page? Why do I only have 56 showing and not the 65, or 78, or 83, or 99, 100 or whatever it is that I SHOULD have showing?

    Your response is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Michael

  • Checking in with the same problem. Strava only displays the 40 most recent photos on my profile page. Annoying.

  • It's definitely a step backwards in your app development. Currently it is showing I only have +26...

This limitation is frustrating people who like social media and photos, and this can be a reason to hinder the growth of Strava usage.

  • Elle, Erik.

Hard to find any request in the forums, community discussions  for the, now, highly ridiculed and really weird #givekudos project which is being peddled all over. Very easy to find popular requests for useful features, going for 3 years already ? Direct Messaging anyone ?  Or this pathetic picture saga which goes one forever  ? It's such a  reckless distraction and shows a comic total disconnected from what your customers are asking you, for more than a year now. That will also be your paying customers, I hasten to add, the one paying the salaries of your management.

Pass this on to the what passes these days as Strava "management"

    Thanks
