In your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness and make sure that Strava is turned on (green). You may have to uninstall and reinstall the app beforehand.

Also, while in the Privacy section of your Settings, make sure Location services and Health is enabled.

This should resolve the issue, but if it does not, please select Submit a Request in the footer of this page to contact us directly.

  • I have the exact same problem! its so annoying! the update sucks. It also doesn't give me KM notifications anymore! I hate the update. I have Apple Watch 1. Im really disappointed :( it was working great before the update!

  • Has any 'help' been offered on this issue? I have the same problem on both the run and ride options :-(

I'd really like to be able to utilise the Strava app on my Apple watch S2, but if the app doesn't respond and therefore doesn't actually 'start' a session, it makes life fairly difficult.

  • My wife has the same issue with her iwatch - when she presses start nothing happens. Stangely mine works perfectly...

  • So, this morning i unistalled the Strava app from the watch S2, and iPhone.

Restarted the watch entirely, and then re-installed Strava from the app store on the phone.

I then opened Strava from my phone, and then opened it on the watch too. After following the instructions on screen (for both watch "dismiss" and iPhone "accept location tracking" etc), it seems to allow recording of activity!

I haven't tested this out entirely yet - will do so tonight and see.

  • I have the same issue! I verified all setting and permissions and everything was good. It even works on my phone so I don't understand why it doesn't work on my Apple Watch Serie 2. I'm very disappointed because after resetting my watch it is still not working. We need a update soon

  • Same here... Have re-installed on both my phone and the watch. The phone app gets GPS, so it works, but the watch app just sits there when I press the big orange button.

    What a mess!

  • Ok... I tried the updated fix and it didn't work... until I un- and re-installed the Strava app. (until I did that, Strava didn't show up in the Motion & Fitness list.)

  • I had to actually uninstall the app from my iPhone and reinstall it and then when I got ready to start a run on my Apple Watch 2, the prompt to allow Motion & Fitness appeared.

  • I had frustrating experience with inaccurate running miles and pace on iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch(original 1st release). Shelby's recommendation helped to resolve this issue but I found it hard to get to working as I was not seeing "Strava" in iPhone's Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness until I started Strava on Apple Watch i.e. this didn't appear re-installing Strava on iPhone and starting app on iPhone even after connecting app with Health. Finally I am happy to get it working.

Requesting Shelby to update her note above with my experience that if "Strava" doesn't show up in iPhone's "Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness" even after re-install of app, one should try start app from Apple Watch and follow the prompts to allow all permissions.

  • None of the suggestions above seem to work for me. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Strava app several times, taken it on/off my watch, and have all of the Motion & Fitness prompts that Shelby mentioned above enabled. But, when I tap or hold the start button, I get nothing, and I can swipe through the rest of the app on the watch just fine.

  • Same problem here!. I went to Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness and make sure that Strava is turned on (green).

Also checked the location services and Health is enabled, and still not working the App on my apple watch.

    Any solution?

  • Here what I did to make work on my AW2+iPhone7

    1. before uninstalling App from iPhone make a logout on the app
    2. uninstall the app
    3. reinstall the app
    4. verify that the app is installed on AppleWatch2
    5. open the app on iPhone, perform login and agree to all security questions (I noticed there may be multiple at the same time, but noproblem)
    6. verify on iPhone's Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness that Strava is present and enabled
    7. start a run on iPhone, it will ask the permission for geolocation, agree on that, stop the run
    8. now you should be able to start a run also on AppleWatch

The problem I think comes from a simple update from previous version of Strava on iPhone/AW2, it did not asked the permissions to get motion&Fitness and location.

STRAVA please do something, is not really user friendly aproach.

    Thank You a (non-premium) user

  • Hi

I can't even see Strava in Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness.

    Any ideas why?

  • Same issue here. However I reinstalled the app and now Strava was not showing in Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness. Only Health and Waze were there.

I went into the Watch app and installed Strava on the watch and Strava is now showing in Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness and the START button is now working.

    Thanks @Shelby

  • Looks like different things cause this issue. In my case solved it by

    1..Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness : Enable Stava

2..Settings > Strava : setting Location to "Always"

  • Me too. I have an AW2

Same issue - no Strava in Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness : Enable Stava -

I have tried all the things mentioned above. I uninstalled and reinstalled apps on both iPhone and AW2. No change.

I appreciate new software has bugs, but this is really frustrating.

    What do I do?

  • I have had this problem on and off, too. I ran a 5-mile race two days ago, and my Watch missed recording the first half-mile before I figured it out. I think that what I was doing was a Force Touch on the Start button instead of a regular Tap.

When you're at a he start of an event, like a running or cycling race, you're pumped up with adrenaline, and it's really hard to control whether you're doing a Tap or a Force Touch.

Since the Force Touch on the Start button appears to do nothing anyway, I think Strava should modify the Watch App so that when you're looking at the Start button, both a Tap and a Force Touch do the same thing, i.e. actually START the session.
