Get Rid of Suggested Athletes in Feed

Strava,

 I am a huge fan.  The technology is awesome and i've met new friends and riding partners through your app.

However, I am not a fan of "Suggested Athletes" showing up in my feed.  This clutters the feed as is lame - it shows me the same athletes all the time.

I read something about a new and improved feed coming soon and i hope this is removed or moved somewhere else.

Cheers,

Monte

  • The "new feed" did not make me happy. It still puts all the garbage at the top, and re-orders the feed based on some type of algorithm. However, you can hack the feed to eliminate the garbage:

    If you are using Firefox on a pc, you can override strava's css by editing the file in C:\Users\[you]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[some random characters]\chrome\userContent.css (if the file doesn't exist in that folder, just create the folder and text file with that name and extension). Then add the following. Restart firefox afterwards:

    @-moz-document domain(www.strava.com) {
        .suggested-follows {display:none}
        .promo {display:none}
        .challenge {display:none}
    }

  • I also hate the Suggested Athletes module in the Feed - at least offer some way to turn it off permanently.  I have clicked the small X in every box of all these people I don't know, and more keep appearing. I have no idea who these people are and no desire to follow them.  To me, this feature clutters up the Feed and makes Strava LESS GREAT to use.  Every time I see it, I lose another drop of enthusiasm for Strava.

    Instead, just keep this feature under Athlete Search (where it already is!), so when I have the INTENT to find new athletes to follow, that's where I can do it.  DON'T CLUTTER THE FEED!

  • This "feature" is terrible. Strava is not facebook. I am a paying subscriber, surely I should be able to turn this off!

    Worse, strava is suggesting athletes who are my "contacts", even though I have not shared my contacts with strava, not sure how this is possible.

  • They are ignoring all requests from their customers and many of us decided to stop subscription. And still it looks like they don't care...

  • I completely agree. The suggested athletes feature is very anoying. I really don't like it. It clutters the feed, and I am not intetested in following these suggested athletes. It should at the very least have a 'turn off' option.

  • I hated this too and removed it. You can go to settings in your phone, select the Strava app, under "Allow Strava Access To", turn Contacts off. If Strava cannot access your contacts, it cannot suggest athletes you know.

  • It's rather silly there is no disable-function for this. I am already annoyed the way Facebook works in this respect, to bad that Strava is following the same path. Please make this function optional.

  • Agreed. Some may like it but it is a waste of space in my feed. I resorted to adding a filter to block it as well (using uBlock Origin) as I had to for challenge notifications and other items I don't care about.

    I'd even prefer an option to never be recommended to anyone else either - not sure if requiring permission to follow excludes me from being suggested. I have no interest in being "Strava friends" with people I don't already know in real life.

  • On my Windows desktop running Chrome browser I have successfully blocked the entire element using Fair AdBlocker (by STANDS) extension (this is by far the most effective ad blocker I've come across, removed AdBlock/AdBlock Plus as soon as I discovered this). Using Fair Adblocker I carefully removed one element at a time within the offending rectangle until the only things left behind are the two horizontal gray lines.

  • Like the rest of the posters on this subject, I don't care for the suggested athlete section.  Especially since I'm paying $59 per year for Premium.  Many of the people you suggest from other sources like Facebook are not athletes I want to follow.  In fact, if you wanted to add a feature, it would be nice to only allow a feed for specific disciplines.  For instance, if I follow someone who is a cyclist, I dont want to see their running and swimming activity.  Also, it would be nice to have the person's average speed for a ride displayed on the initial dashboard window, instead of having to open a window to get to it.  To me, PAID="Don't show me suggested athletes, and dont' promote Strava to me, hey, I'm already a paying customer, save that for someone who is on the free version.

  • I hate it too. I'm just testing the app before buying it but it seems to be trying to be a lame version of Facebook. I don't see why it needs access to my contacts at all so I'm now looking for an alternative.
