Adding a lock function to the Strava Apple Watch app

Hi,

When I'm out running with my series 2 Apple Watch, my sleeve occasional interferes with the touchscreen causing the Strava app to either pause, stop or switch sport. Is there any intention to add a screen lock function, similar to that in the Apple Workout app, which will prevent this scenario from happening?

  • Hi, I used to have the same problem but I now slide up and turn on waterproof mode to disable the touchscreen

  • It would be really nice to have this cause the Apple Watch Series 1 doesn’t have waterproof mode.

  • Peter,

Do you do this within the Strava app? On which of the three screens: Settings, Stop, Stats?

I have the latest model with the latest updates and I cannot swipe up within the app to access the lock function. I can leave the app and lock the screen and as a result not be able to see the Strava app to determine distance, time, etc.

    Thanks

  • Apologies, I come out of the app and swipe up from clock face but you're correct and this doesn't show Strava progress.

  • Would love the ability to lock the watch while seeing the progress. I am running the Tough Mudder Saturday and would like to use Strava, but may have to abandon it and use the Apple running app to see the distance, time.

  • C'mon Strava, this is your App which your not updating!

Twice clothing has interfered with my runs on the Apple Watch.....how hard can it be to put a lock function on the series 2!

  • This happened to me this morning.

I've been running with Strava on Apple Watch 2 for about 6 weeks. Prior to that I was running with a TomTom 2 problem free for 18 months. The reason for my upgrading was so that I could run with just my watch and have up-to-date music.

In the 6 weeks, I can honestly say I'm massively disappointed in the Strava app on Apple Watch 2. I've had this issue with my long sleeved top stopping my run this morning; had to track across 2 runs today.

I went out for a 10 mile run a few weeks back, and during my run I was using the Apple Watch as my music source, and tried to change tracks which broke the Strava app recording, it just displayed the clock (https://twitter.com/developer_gg/status/901375656390524932) at the end, needless to say I was rather annoyed.

It's also nowhere near as accurate as friends' watches. Possibly more to do with the hardware than the Strava app.

I see this now as a smart watch that can track runs, rather than a running watch, and because of that I am browsing the Garmin website as I write this.

    Major let down.

  • Hey all,

Weather is getting worse here now and I'm running now with long sleeves or even with a jacket and experiencing the same problem now. SO +1 to add a feature to lock the screen.

Let's hope they will do something in the near future bc it's kinda sucks

  • This feature is needed badly - I already got 2 rides erased by my long sleeve jersey ... this is so annoying!!! And... using Strava from my iPhone doesn’t allow me to see progress nor record my heart rate..
When should we expect to see the lock screen feature implemented?

  • I would love locking feature since I use the app while kitesurfing.

I guess Strava developers don't seem to care since no one from the team cares to chime in?

  • I stopped using Strava on my watch for this very reason. Would love to have this feature.

  • +1  Its happened twice for me.  Particularly when it been a bit wet and my sleave and winter gloves rub on the screen.

Changes the sports mode,  Km to Miles and also pauses. All without me knowing mid-run.

  • As a minor solution but not an ideal one you can start the app and an activity then hit the top button to take you back to the watch face. When you want to check your progress during an activity just click the bottom side button and the app will appear with stats running; hit the top one again and it goes back to home screen.
It’s still pretty poor when the majority of other apps have lock and water proof modes; something Strava have to sort surely.

  • The lock button does not work on my first generation Apple Watch. I can press the button, but the screen does not lock. What could I be doing wrong?

  • I have had this problem on my first gen Apple Watch and was pleased to read here it is fixed, but I tried it this morning and the lock button doesn’t do anything. I completely lost the record of this mornings run as a result. This can’t be difficult to fix surely?
