Apple Watch Series 2

Hi,

Have to ask the question, as Apple hinted that the GPS in the new watch will allow access to developers. Will Strava look at a native Apple Watch app which uses the GPS on the watch?

  • "So Soon"?  Are we talking days, weeks or months?  Spring is about here and it would be great to finally use something other than the Nike App to run without a phone tethered to my body.  Thanks!

  • Hi Elle Anderson,

When is soon.  If it is that soon can we have more specifics on the target date?

  • Does anyone else who uses the Runkeeper -> Tapiriik -> Strava workaround find that after sync, Strava's time is several mins less than Runkeeper? (Meaning the other stats are all incorrect).

If so, any ways to fix it?

    TY
    Mike

  • For goodness' sake Strava........how complicated can this be, lots of other good running apps out there now - like Runkeeper - all running native on the Apple Watch 2. Get a move on......

  • @sebastianH yes I'm using iPhone 7 - thanks for the update I wasn't aware of this.
Have just spoken to apple and the person I spoke to hadn't heard of this issue either.
I'm not in the situation where Apple are blaming strava and strava are blaming Apple....
Waiting for a call back from a senior advisor at Apple to will hopefully get to the bottom of this

  • All say the same thing "why the app doesn't ready for aw???"
Because watchOS 3 is trash!!! Wake up! Strava doesn't realese its standalone app, Runtastic also, ismoothrun also (and this should be ready last year!!!!).
Runkeeper as like Nike, No plus, no less.
Aw2 not ready for a good running app, theese messages should be send to Apple !

  • Hi again,

today I run a 30 kilometer race as I'm preparing the Barcelona Marathon within 3 weeks. I used Runkeeper standalone Apple Watch Series 2 app and it was just PERFECT!! Every kilometer along the race was absolutely precise. I could customize the watch face (pace, avg pace, HR, avg HR,...). Ok, there are some things that could be improved like audio cue and hardware functions, but it did the job quite  good.

At the meanwhile I am using Strava Beta standalone in my trainings and I have to admit it is absolutely the contrary. No precise GPS, no customizable watch face and no reliability at all. What a shame!  Strava has definitely  lost the leadership in running Apps.

At this moment the only thing I could suggest Strava is that please, don't launch the standalone App since it's not fine tuned and there's a lot of work to do yet.

  • DC Rainmaker's review of the apple watch explains everything: the Apple Watch is probably the best smartwatch around but as a GPS-running watch it's crap! Pace data are simply fake and unusuable.
So Strava can program the best running app of the world, but if the hardware is simply trash the app will be bad.
And probably Strava doesn't want to ruin its popularity by pushing out something that brings only negative critics.
Nevertheless I think they'll publish it because they promised so but only a very simple app with basic data (I'm not a beta-tester.. so maybe - and I hope - I'm wrong).
The Android standalone app is a compleately different story: there isn't only one phone like on iOs but plenty.
And Android Wear 2.0 allows Iphone-users to wear such a watch and use Strava.
I like my Apple Watch and I'll use it as my smartwatch I wear all day long, but 2 days ago I bought a running watch (TomTom) for my runs.

  • @Michael Giffard you can try RunGap App to upload the runkeeper activities from apple Sw2 to strava, it's almost 99% accurate

  • There is some problems with watch AW S2? GPS module/anthena is weak? The system WatchOS 3 is cumbersome in programming?
