  • I just posted the question on the facebook page. Its pretty obvious no one from Strava monitors the forum. I asked is this something Strava needs to do or something Garmin needs to do.

This really seems like a deal breaker to me, as I use my Garmin for a ton of other activities that are irrelevant to Strava.

Seeing the issue being created in 2016, and not yet fixed, does not inspire confidence to be honest.

  • The official comment is that strava will be out with this feature by at least the 1st half of 2019. Let's hope they do this.. runs and bike.. yes!! Random ton of sups and walks and hikes.. no!! I use strava to participate with a serious group of riders and it sucks to always be filling up their feeds with my day to day activities. The default (private) setting isn't a good solution.

  • Just got myself a Garmin watch so now have to revoke Garmin as I don't want my walking activity to be published.

  • +1 I would like that only my runs are synced, not my rides. I use Wahoo Bolt for the bike rides and Garmin Fenix for the runs. As the fenix also records rides, all Garmin activities are synced. Now I see that I rode with myself on each ride, it connects both files as both devices upload the data. Wouldn’t be so difficult to set a filter what type of activities you want to sync to Strava? This request is supported my many users and started early 2016...

  • I am now private on Strava because i'm injured and find it completely embarrassing to have my PT and strength training sessions showing up on Strava, but want to still track them. How annoying for those following me! Please Strava, fix this!!

  • I sent an inquiry to Strava Support and this is their response today:

"It is not currently possible to set different default privacy settings for individual sport types, but we appreciate you sharing this feedback. Our engineering and user-experience teams are continuing to simplify our privacy controls and may use this feedback to inform future changes.

As Sheila mentioned, you do have the option to set a single default privacy setting so that your new activities automatically upload with this selection. Keep in mind you can always change this setting on individual activities if you'd like to set it to something other than your default"

So, they don't seem to be working on this currently. Sad face.

  • After seeing my morning 10 min yoga through Garmin appear on a Strava feed, then visiting this forum for answers, then realising that such a basic level of customisation is unavailable on Strava....well, completely turned around my perception of Strava as a serious bit of kit to a bit of a joke...seriously of what benefit is it for Strava to not introduce such a basic thing after so many years and turn off all those more serious fitness enthusiasts that they are trying to impress and keep...oh dear Strava. Big own goal.

  • Wait.. doesn't everyone love posting frequent walks with their loved ones on the activity feeds of their 100+ focused group of biking and running friends. I know I ABSOLUTELY find it annoying and the primary reason my passionate use of Strava began declining.

  • I've just decided to disconnect my Garmin account from Strava and to no longer use Strava due to a lack of rather simple request that has been made since 2016, by a large number of users across the world.

Clearly Strava product management and engineering teams do not look at these forums and take into account the sustained and large number of requests pertaining to this thread. A pity, because these forums are a rich source of requests from the people that use and want to continue to use Strava.

  • We could all do every companies favorite thing and complain on Twitter. I swear it's the only thing I know to do to get customer service movement these days. It feels gross, but might work? @StravaSupport.

  • I have been following this thread for a while now, but it occurs to me that everyone is posting this to the wrong company. I think this is more of a Garmin Connect issue than a Strava issue. Everyone should demand this as a feature in Garmin. Here is a web site to request new features in Garmin. We should inundate that site with the same request.

  • I actually do not use Garmin any more as Strava provides me with the functionality I need on most accounts. However, if you set up sync between your favourite service and iPhone Health, this can be solved by using the app called ExerSuite.

ExerSuite does not provide automatic sync with Strava as the main purpose of the app is to be in charge of which workouts gets published and not.

You manually select which workouts to upload to Strava. You are in control and only publish the workouts you want to your Strava feed.

  • Can't believe such a ultra simple request has not been added 3 GODDAMN years later... Honestly Strava, give me access to the sourcecode and I'll implement it myself sheesh.

  • Hi Jeff. We're beyond the first half of 2019. Would be great if you can put this into the next lot of development for the app team.

  • My new vivosmart 4 is now uploading everytime it thinks I've done a 'walk' activity ( like 6 / day ), c'mon strava fix this.

  • Have recently, and reluctantly, transitioned from my Suunto Ambit 3 to a Garmin FR645, partly due to Suunto messing things up with their new App. Finding it frustrating that I can't link my Garmin and Starva accounts without every activity I do uploading. It surely can't be that difficult with all the other things that have been done to be able to filter so only runs sync. Might have to reconsider whether my Summit membership is worth it if I'm still having to manually upload when renewal comes around.

  • Hey folks. My main sport is running and I got an email about runner user motivation to post to the feed and Strava. I think this would be a great place to tell Strava how dumb it is that this isn't a feature. The survey is pretty long (40 multiple choice) but maybe if we all complained there they would (finally) listen.

  • Hey Kember,

Would you be able to share the survey link?

    Cheers,
