Map Privacy

Is there a way to keep map hidden from all followers, but have followers still be able to see activity?

Thanks for the feedback, Privacy will be a top initiative in 2018.

At this time, you can create a privacy zone around an address and you can also review the enhanced privacy features we have available.

We will be sure to consider a feature to hide the map from public view, thanks.

  • There is no way to hide a map from followers unless you make the activity private, which will hide it from all followers.

  • Why do you want to do this?  Keep some routes secret?

  • I have the same question.  I am racing in two events this year where they are requesting racers DO NOT Strava the event as the race crosses private land and the the landowners do not want people riding there other than on the event day.

It would be great if Strava had a Hide Map option, so all the other stats could be seen (including profile) but the map was not visible.  Definitely a growing issue at biking endurance races.

  • It is better to keep the office or home location private, every time i have to delete my activities because I forget to stop before i arrive to home or office

  • Would like to keep my home and office location PRIVATE. Not even a zone should be visible.

  • I train indoors on rollers, using just my Wahoo computer, would like to upload the data but don't want show where I am, I can't do this with the privacy zone as there is a couple of my favourite segments that finish within the minimum boundary.
    In short -
PLEASE MAKE "HIDE MAP" A FEATURE!!

  • There needs to be a way to hide the map but still share other information. Someone could easily stalk your running routes and be there waiting on the trail some day.

It doesn't seem like the ability to hide a map is considered a top privacy initiative here.  Even with privacy zones, it still gives you a pretty good idea of where you are.  It wouldn't take much for someone to learn your general location and see a pattern in your workout times and routes to know where and when to find you or know when you aren't home.  If you'd like, I can compile a list of recent incidents where runners have been stalked and attacked.  It would be a shame if any of them were Strava users and the stalker found out about them that way.

  • Two years later, this is still not a feature, whereas it’s a fairly common one on other apps. I can’t use Strava until this is implemented. As it is I have to keep my workout entirely private, which completely defeats the purpose.

Hiding running maps is an important feature for female runners, and I can’t imagine it’s complex to implement.

  • How is this not a feature? I've just started using Strava again and realised this and have to turn off all the privacy which doesn't go towards the challenges.

I guess I should cancel my Summit membership because there is no point using Strava.

  • Has anyone found a way yet? I want to use my trainer at home, but not show off the location of where my beautiful bike lives.
Come on Strava - this should be a standard feature!

  • Very concerned that such an app has no way of posting just the stats of a run without a map. Other activity trackers allow you the opportunity to not post your maps. Allowing privacy.
The safety of Strava's runners is clearly not a top priority.

  • Agree with everyone else on this. Also think it's ridiculous that Strava charges extra for a safety beacon. It's 2019, safety should be a top priority for running apps.

  • Would love to see this feature implemented as soon as possible!

  • Adding my support for this! Seems like a pretty obvious choice to supply to users, and also an incredibly easy feature to implement.

  • Strava implement or say something. Stop ignoring users.

  • I'd love to share limited aspects of my runs, even if it's just distance. Since no form of limited sharing (no map, elevation, etc) is an option, I've only been sharing races for a few years now, so that's the only time I even touch the app anymore.

  • Need this feature.  I click my runs to "treadmill" now to hide the map.  Very cumbersome.

  • Brett: even if you make it treadmill, the maps are visible with the Strava "Flyby" feature.

    This is very sad situation.

  • I agree, strangers don't need to know where I am and when I am usually there.  This is a safety concern.

  • You can post ride data publicly and hide the map by selecting the 'Indoor Cycling' tag under the Edit menu. Unfortunately, this only seems to be available through the browser, not the Strava app. This should be an easy fix/update (ahem, Strava) by just adding it as another option like the 'Commute' tag. This tag hides the map data (including segments) but still publicly displays the ride's generic data and photos. If you later want to display the map again, just remove the Indoor Cycling tag and the map will reappear. As for showing up in Flybys, you can control that in your Privacy Control settings.

  • Many of the concerns I see posted above are addressed in your Privacy settings. Don't want strangers to see where you ride, change your Profile to only Followers and only accept Followers whom you want to see your rides. Don't want people to see your rides, change your activities to only 'Followers' or to 'Only You'. Don't want to be seen in Flyby, change it to 'No One'.

  • +1 for a hide map feature. The above 'fixes' aren't applicable to my circumstances. Just an option to show/not show a map would be great.

    Thank you/please.

  • It's a shame after three years nothing appears to have changed. I had to start using Strava recently to take part in a virtual run and have no idea who the other participants are. I'm okay with posting non-local park runs but am reluctant to add my daily routine (runs, walk etc) around where I live. It'd be great if there was a feature to hide the map but still record the activity. I don't want strangers to know what suburb I'm located and my routine.
