Better Multisport/Triathlon support and features

Please leave us your comments, ideas, and feedback here regarding better support of multi-sport activities on Strava.

As things currently stand, some multisport devices will segment out the different activity types in to separate pages (swim/bike/run) when uploaded to Strava. Sometimes, however, an entire multisport file will upload as one activity page - presenting problems with choosing an activity type, achievements, and training stats. We currently don't have many features specifically designed for triathletes, but would love to hear your ideas. What multisport features and functions would you love to see on Strava in the future?

Thanks!

  • In 2012 you asked about input. And five (!!!) years later there is still no valid multi-sport support in Strava.

    Really?

Close this thread and just admit, that it's either not paying off (because users buy Strava accounts anyway), or you just dont't manage to come up with a proper solutions.

For my part: going back to regular account. No more money from me.

  • YES. We wanted multisport support 5 years ago and we still want it now. Just get on with it!

  • When tracking activity on phone, it would be nice to have the option (in phone app or online) to be able to select a section and apply the activity type there for that activity.

  • Just noticed a "split" tool allowing activities to be divided into 3. Is this the fix we were looking for? Anyone have experience in using it?

  • I agree with what many people on here think. I think the way Strava handles multisport activities from my Garmin is poorly done. Often times, I do brick workouts where I switch back and forth from my bike to a run 5 or 6 times. This means that upwards of 10 different activities are added to my feed and this spams both mine and my followers feeds. Consolidating a multisport activity into one activity and then being able to look at each individual leg inside of that would be a WAY better way to do things. This is how it is organized on Garmin Connect. Its simpler and I don't spam my followers feeds with 11 workouts in 2 hours.

  • Transition should be listed as an Activity, as is the third discipline of Triathlon (or third discipline of Duathlon)

  • Anders Fougner's solution is not hard in UI terms (and nice & simple) however I bet the issue is more a database problem for them and probably why it isn't fixed yet

However, a bit of metadata on the file to group these parts even if recorded separately should be pretty simple.

Anyway, I would also like to see multisport logging. Am about to do some bricks and know it is going to be uuuugly to track

  • This thread is frustrating.. I've posted on a similar thread for Apple Watch 2 Support for Swimming. Yes!!! Please add multi sport features including swimming!!!!

Multi-sport is what got me on the bike in the first place and I love cycling, I love Strava, but it is so frustrating that my data can't all be properly accounted for on one platform. I'm super close to just closing my premium membership and starting up with Training Peaks.

  • I recently started doing Swimrun and I have bought a Garmin Fenix 5 to log my activities.  During one activity I may switch between running and swimming up to 20 times or more. The watch has a feature to log everything in one activity but unfortunately Strava logs all the 20 parts as separate activities. Swimrun is growing fast as a sport and I see lots of people with Garmin watches, that probably have the same issue. Please add support for multisport and cooperate with Garmin to make this work!

  • I take it nothing at all is going to be done about this?

  • I've asked the Strava team about this before and got an unsatisfactory response. Obviously strava needs to be able to hold the multipart data as individual event types (swim, bike, run) but I don't understand why they can't put a container around this data so that it appears on the feed as a single entry with multiple sports, including transitions.

If the reason for not doing this is due to the interface with the likes of Garmin etc then work with these people and sort it out.

Disappointingly training peaks has the same problem but that doesn't excuse it.

  • Has there been any change to Strava support for Triathlon? I cant believe how old this post. Assume there must be a design limitation for multisport. Would be nice to import each activity as we do now and then group them together as one.

  • Did a sprint tri in the weekend, first time using my Garmin 935 to record the whole thing as a multisport file.  Usually I ignore the swim, use a bike computer, and then use my watch just for the run.  But this time I was feeling adventurous.

Anyway, Garmin Connect synced to Strava okay, which split the file into 5 bits (incl. transitions).  So far so good.  But I see all of the activity times listed in the feed are more like the end time of the leg rather than the start time as I'd expect.  Things look even weirder when looking at FlyBy.  For some reason I'm nowhere near anyone else in the swim, and my bike leg and my run leg finish at the same time - quite funny watching me overtake myself as I race myself to the line!).

    Anyone else noticed this?

  • @Danny There was a known fault with the multi-sport integration that for me, manifested itself as the run leg looking like it was the was the entire triathlon, rather than just the run split. This was an intermittent fault that did not always happen. At least that was the case a few months ago. I have to admit I haven't noticed it recently.

To fix just raise a support ticket with Strava for them to fix it.

    Cheers

    Chris

  • I suggest all of you leave an iTunes app store review or if there is something similar for Android. They obviously don't listen to any of their customers, and it's ridiculous how long people have been asking for new activity types that shouldn't be hard to implement.

  • It seems to work for some activities - I've seen some activities recognised as a mutisport and then get listed as one activity with multiple sections...

  • In fact it is even a bit worse. My middle distance triathlon last weekend was perfect one (1) activity on Suunto's Movescount. Syncing didn't work, so I downloaded a single (!!) .FIT file to upload on Strava and there it was deliberately split into 5 activities! So Strava does recognise the different sections, even as swim, ride and run (and workout for the transitions) but can not link them into one activity. If only they should ask Suunto or one of the many other garment providers how they do it...
