Display cadence & current speed when recording on mobile app

Can I display cadence from my biometric cadence and speed sensor on the main display? I have a wahoo fitness bike pack. I found how to add the sensor, and can see it in the sensor link in the upper right corner. But I would like to display cadence on the main page. I don't really care about elapsed time. Thanks, Derrick

I'm trying to figure this out also. I would like to display the current speed from my speed sensor too. All of the other bike apps let you customize the display. It doesn't seem that you can with Strava. I hope I am wrong because this is a big problem.

Current speed is essential for pace line pulling. Please add this as a feature. Thanks! --james

Would also love cadence monitoring as a feature. It would seemingly be easy to do and provide significant benefits.

I am also frustrated by this issue.  I should have done more homework.  I wrongly assumed that the cadence and heart rate would dissplay as I ride.  Had I known it did not display on the app, I would not have bought the bike case or battery exxtender.  I would have just used the bio sensors with a Garmin or other device.  This lack of ability to display information is a big gap.  Like Strava at first but I am looksing interest fast.  I can't recommend it and should not have got the premium membership when I cn't display the Wahoo data.  This has been posted for a couple of months without a response so I guess Strava could care less.

I forgot to state in the comment above that Map My Ride will meet this need today.  You can switch between the map screen and the display WITH cadence WHILE you ride.  Until Strava responds to this I think I may downgrade my account and go back to using MMR as my primary.

My bio-sensors are from Wahoo. After experimenting this morning, I found it easy to just use the Wahoo Fitness app to display during the ride and then upload to Strava an/or MapmyFitness. The Wahoo app is actually very nice with all the info I could care to see. As part of the set up process it walks through the account information for other apps. That makes uploading a simple key press. Strava may be great on the computer for analyzing rides and performance, but I have not found a clear advantage for use as a cycle computer other than recording segments.

Hello Everyone - thanks for chiming in on this forum and offering your feedback on the display of our recording screen on the iOS App.

1. We've decided not to display Cadence information, or Current Speed on our App display during recording. We will be redesigning the during activity recording experience in the future, and we'll take your feedback into account!

2. Thanks for sharing the MMR export to TXC resource Pierre-Yves! That looks like a great tool.

Keep the feedback coming!

Searching on this subject tonight and came accross this post.   I agree with all of the comments above about Cadence and the need for a customizable display.   Also, please consider a high contrast mode for use in direct sunlight to help with viewing.

Thanks!

I agree - customizable high contrast display urgently needed. I want to display cadence currently but we should be able to choose. I currently run strava in the background with cyclemeter on display for this reason.

Cadence should be displayed on the display, it's the reason why i use iBiker.

I've found the Strava app is not a good bike computer replacement. What I have found is that it's a great background data capture app, and Cyclemeter is a great foreground bike computer app. I have the Wahoo Blue HR and Blue SC sensors paired with my iPhone.

At the beginning of a ride I fire up Strava, wait for it to Bluetooth acquire the two Wahoo sensors, then fire up Cyclemeter and start it, relegating Strava to run in the background, and use Cyclemeter while riding. At the end of the ride, I stop Cyclemeter, switch apps to Strava, and stop it.

The few minutes of being stationary while I perform these shenanigans is accounted for and removed by both Strava and Cyclemeter, so I'm not worried. I have yet to go on a long enough ride to exhaust the iPhone battery, since I only figured this solution out recently, so I cannot yet comment on what running the two apps concurrently does to battery life.

What's the point of pairing the Wahoo speed and cadence sensor if Strava does not allow you to display it? If Strava cannot adapt to what we riders are needing then there really is no reason for Strava....

I don´t really care about cadence, although a custom display would be great and isn´t that difficult to program.

but i can only repeat: "Current speed is essential for pace line pulling. Please add this as a feature. Thanks!"

Add me to the list of users that would like to see cadence displayed. If the Strava App can record the data for viewing online, I would like to see it real-time as it helps in training *DURING* the fact.

I would also like to see a speed display option -- maybe by tapping the speed, we could cycle through Average, Max, and Current.

This very disappointing. Cadence  and heart rate are my two main measuring sticks. And the display does not have one and it is very difficult to see the other with this app. I think there should be an option of how to display the information. If it was up to me the display would have  Heart Rate and Cadence as 2 large numbers, Speed and Distance as 2 smaller numbers, and elapsed time as even smaller number still. ARRGH!!!

It is too bad that Strava doesn't use the speed sensor reading to improve the accuracy of the distance calculation. Due to GPS drift and data smoothing, Strava's calculation can be off by 1-2 miles for a 25mile ride. I really hope Strava improves this in the next release. As a paying customer, I vote for adding the feature. Cyclemeter does this and provides much more accurate measurement.

Strava should consider implementing Kalman filters to smoothe the GPS data, which can take into account speed sensor to provide better "smoothing". There's several open source implementations that Strava could use without having to re-invent the wheel. Google is your friend. Here is a link to a PDF that explains kalman filters http://www.cs.unc.edu/~welch/media/pdf/kalman_intro.pdf

Add my voice to the request for a customizable main screen. I can't believe speed and cadence aren't shown or that they made the active decision to leave them off the app in the first place. Can you just see the meeting where this was decided? I guess it was staffed by people that don't ride bikes. What other excuse can there be?

Would really like to see current speed, cadence and heart rate as optional to display on the iPhone. Maybe even program a voice announcement over user-definable intervales so you don't even have to look down.

I agree also with the recent posts - to truly use Strava "during" an activity the following should be available - cadence, Speed (current and average should be available), Heart rate, and why not an option for Power Output (again instantaneous and average)

I also have a question for the community - or Strava - Given that the above are available during the activity - How will you configure Strava and/or iPhone to display without auto locking the screen - so that it is available quickly and safely when needed. (available on lock screen??)

Just got Blue SC cadence sensor and was disappointed that I cannot see the speed / cadence on the iphone, nor is the speed from the sensor recorded.  Forced to switch to another app in the meantime to see the data I need.  Would be great if Strava offered this.

I also just got the Blue SC cadence sensor and am mystified that Strava doesn't display cadence during the ride.  Please fix this!

This really does need to be addressed. Strava has a great community and back end, but it falls flat on the most important piece for the user experience - the Record screen! I have switched to MapMyRide as their home/record screen is easy to see (Strava's grey is almost impossible on bright days with sunglasses on) and you can easily customize MMR's screen to have whatever metrics you choose.

As a application developer, I know that the data is there, it just needs to be displayed.

Strava, please take this seriously and provide us an upgrade with these much needed specs!!

Wow, wish I had read this post before shelling out 120 greenbacks for Wahoo speed/cadence and heart rate sensors.  No real time display of these metrics = Strava deal breaker for me.  Will be switching to Cyclemeter or Runtastic Road Bike iPhone app until this is addressed.
