Add better support for Swim data to Strava

I am thinking about buying a Garmin Swim, but it is pretty useful if it cannot upload it's data to Strava. Is there a possibility that Garmin Swim will be supported?

edit: THANKS TO ALL THE SPORTERS REPLYING IN THE THREAD AND OF COURSE THE TEAM OF STRAVA!!! SWIM UPLOAD IS POSSIBLE FROM NOW ON!!!!

Strava Support edit: Although Strava currently accepts Swim data from Garmin devices, this forum can still be used to collect feedback on improvements we can make to allow swim data to be more useful and better displayed on Strava, for both swim metrics and swim activity data. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Yes my local pool use Swimtag too, I swim a lot and being able to upload to Strava would be really useful.

  • My Strava data comes from my Garmin watch which collates great analytics on my swim however occasionally Garmin gets the stroke wrong, or splits lap counts that need to be retrospectively merged to short the accurate number of laps. I can edit the data using third party tools to show the correct number of laps in Garmin however the Strava data remains inaccurate as I cant edit/merge/split the incorrectly imported data when it comes across.  Would be great if we could resync from other apps or edit to fix errors post import.

  • The negativity here is so silly. It's not just about the programming it takes, these things don't happen overnight (obviously) - there's always a whole other insane and intricate world behind the curtain, especially with company's as big as Strava is now.

Yes they started out as a bike/run gps site but they wouldn't have over TWENTY-FIVE extra activities besides biking and running if they weren't planning on absorbing every area of fitness.

I mean what the hell kind of business plan is it when you stop at just biking and running? It's pretty clear that Strava is up to much bigger things and plans to be the facebook of fitness, which it pretty much already is. All in good time!

  • I have a very specific suggestion re: a missing feature for openwater swim data

If you look at a run or a ride, you can scan along the graph, and at any point read of the key numbers (Time, distance, pace and elevation). This is great, as it makes it easy to check what your time was at a specific distance (or place on the map, by following the dot)), or vice versa. I use this all the time.

Obviously, elevation isn't relevant for a swim, but pace, distance and time are.

So why does that hover window not appear when you mouse over the swim graph?

All you see is a readout of pace, against a scale of distance or time. But you never actually get to see the value for distance or time.

This seems like a simple accidental omission that could be easily fixed - if bike and run can both dispay this, surely swim can. In fact, if I reuploaded my swim as a "run on water", no doubt it would work!

Would be great to see this sorted.

    Matt
