Direct Messages on Strava

I think that Strava needs more social function in its system in order to increase its attractivity and its expansion.

Some of my suggestions are :

1. A personal message system

2. An event scheduler which permits athletes to plan a group event

I think both features would help to develop the commuity

  • Private Messages are necessary to properly administer a club on Strava....  Sometimes an Administrator has questions for potential/existing members that both parties may not want publicly viewed.

  • Im going on a race this weekend and just looked a few of my competitors (whom Ive never met).  I wanted to PM them to find out if they wanted to car pool.  Surprised there is not this ability.

As a software developer, this is not hard to implement.  Strava, pull your finger out!

  • "Meeting Spot" or event sheduler is a feature that in which I've been thinking a long time.

Just as there are search segments, a search for nearby departure points shared by other users could be interesting when riding with companions.

Also inthe agenda races to indicate your intention to go and find out which of your cologas will take part.

  • A 100+ vote for a private messaging system. There are plenty of people I know only through here, that I would like to communicate with through the app.

  • I vote yes!  I don't understand why it wasn't part of the system to start with!

  • +1 for the message system

I missed this feature not only once when I wanted to exchange e-mail adresses and phone numbers with somebody who I know from Strava only. At least it should be possible to exchange contact details.

  • I am also really missing a PM function in Strava. With a PM function It would be so much easier to have contact with old and new friends without to have the conversation in a the comment field of a ride.

  • Why isn't PM a feature?  I agree with the others.  This feature needs to be added.

  • I find it really odd that Stava does not have a PM feature, at least for people who are following each other. This creates awkward conversations in the comment-section of a ride, and / or drives people to Facebook/email

  • I was just going to send Strava a support request for this but I see someone already started a thread.  I don't know if this works or if Strava is planning this feature or not.  I would really like to see a PM feature.  It would be nice to speak to users directly to exchange information pertaining to meeting up for a bike ride.  This kind of information might not be something you want to share with the whole world so a PM feature would be very useful for this.  Most internet message boards and even Facebook have PM features, why not Strava?

  • exactly - I found a friend in another country and would like to contact him without broadcasting it to the entire Strava-world

  • Can´t believe PM is still missing. Strava is not evolving at all.

  • It's approaching 2 1/2 years since this was first suggested. Really, Strava, how hard can it be to add a messaging system? As others have said, there could be an option to restrict to your followers which would be the default, and you could add an "ignore person" option. There could even be a global "turn off all messages" option. These settings would eliminate any potential issues.

Get with it, Strava! What's the hold-up? If there are concerns beyond privacy issues (addressed above), let us know so we can help work around them. At the very least there should be a button that loads a form to fill out to email the person while keeping their email address private, like many sites do. This should be easy to program!

Please give us an update on this, it's clear there are many votes for this.
