Add Strava to IOS lock screen

I love Strava App for IOS, it's uses less battery power then other apps as runtastisc, but would be nicer if we could see the app only by pressing the home button when the screen is locked on the iPhone. After the screen is locked we have to slide to unlock then the app become visible. That would be very helpful when using the phone attached to the handlebar.

  • This simply isn't possible to be added. Apple don't allow it.

  • How does Rdio do it? I know Apple has certain classifications that allow certain interaction. Any way to add a little feature to Strava to make it fit Apple's definition of an app that can be accessed from the lock screen?
In general, you guys have a great product. Keep up the good work!

  • I don't think the requested functionality is available, but I'd like to see a pop up on the lock screen when the signal has dropped and recording has ceased. Too often this app crashes for me but I don't know it until the ride is over. How about an audible chime (selectable) to notify the user that the signal has been lost?

  • Better yet... how about do what RunKeeper or MapMyRide does, which is have the option to prevent the screen from turning off?  I know it uses battery, but that would be the user's choice.  I am using Strava for my bike rides, and the lack of that feature is what is preventing me from fully converting to strava.

  • It is allowed as the Nike + running app has this functionality. The Nike app has a lock button built into the app main screen, this allows for a dimmed screen saving battery and allowing for information to be shown whilst the phone is locked. This does need adding to the app to improve its use. I wouldn't mind a delayed start feature too.

  • This is what keeps me from switching to Strava from runkeeper

  • Apple have slightly relaxed their stance on locking down their APIs in iOS 7 which I've been using for a few months now. This should be known to Strava by now whether they can access the lock screen APIs and allow the notification centre to show this data, in my opinion it should be available. Looking forward to the general release of iOS 7 and the updated Strava app to coincide (my routes are not recording properly since the latest upgrade)

  • When is this coming?? This is the ONE feature that I and all my strava buddies would LOVE to make our runs more convenient.

  • Like Nike + and another apps, a "no-timeout" feature that dims the app and keeps it "live" would be great so that we don't have to always get past the lockscreen to end a run. Think about how inconvenient this is for users with a passcode...

  • Sports-Tracker and Waze have such features. So, why Strava cannot having it? I would like viewing my riding data, including the HR...

  • This is a must have. I keep using Runkeeper because of this and after my run I'll upload to Strave. Stop locking my screen during activities and Strava is the no1 app for me!

  • I would also love this feature. To be able to seen the last accessed strava screen as the background to your lock screen. Love the Strava app regardless!

  • +1 for this capability. Nike+ can definitely do this. I'm a current user of that product and can verify it. I'm looking for a reason to quit Nike+, but typing in my PIN while running to see my data is a non-starter, so I'll stick with my free Strava account until this gets added.

  • Only way is to turn off lock screen for duration of activity - change to lock never

  • Susanne,

I think you misunderstand the intent of this thread.  The intent of this message thread is to REQUEST that this feature be added to Strava.  Other applications, such as Nike+ can do this today and this would make the application much easier to use during a workout session.  See attached photo for details.

  • Hi Aaron, yes I understood that, was just noting a temporary option, not perfect but gets by if activity not so long as to drain battery

  • Couldn't agree more. This is my favourite app but so annoying when the screen goes blank. Come on Strava sort it out.

  • When you turn your phone or ipad and the lock screen appears double tap then the camera will appear. It took me a while to figure it out, but it does work. The only place you can get to is photos, but it only shows you the photos you've just taken, not all that are on the device.

  • Cannot see why Strava can't do this but Nike+ can. Its very poor.

  • Apple has been my favorite electronic gadget since ages. Especially the Strava for IOS. But sometimes I wish I could lock the screen and press on the home button for the start up. Thanks for the ways to lock it using the IOS app.

  • Thanks for the feedback! We're looking into improving our recording experience via our mobile apps, and this feature suggestion will be considered.

  • Folks: The Nike app functionality is built into iOS ... that's probably why they can provide this functionality ... it's probably harder, if not impossible, for 3rd party apps.
