  • Made some major improvements to the tool at:

    http://gotoes.org/strava/Combine_GPX_TCX_FIT_Files.php

First, it now combines FIT files as well.  Also, you can combine different file types (i.e. combine a FIT file from your Edge 500 with a GPX file from your iPhone)

Also, the tool now gives you the option of "randomizing" the ID tag.  This will eliminate conflicts with an activity you have already uploaded.  A number of people have contacted me saying that the resulting product from our tool would say "duplicate activity" when they uploaded to Strava.  Initially, I had envisioned that people would wait to upload the combined file, but I've been finding that people upload the partial files, get kudos and comments, and then want to upload the merged file later and have them co-exist.  As such, checking the "Randomize ID tag" on the download page (second page you come to) will fix that for people.

  • How is this not already implemented?  Request made Dec 3, 2013????  Certainly this has to be more useful than live segments.

  • So I don't get the riders who are having issues with their phone batteries dying...use a external charging battery.  Zip tie a charging cord from your wedge to your phone and store the extra battery in the wedge.  When your phone starts getting low plug the external battery in.

That said...I record my runs on both my Garmin Forerunner and my Android phone.  Not because of battery or any other issues.  I'd love to see Garmin recognize the two workouts as one or allow me to merge the stats between the two.  As it is I either dump the phone data or the watch data before it gets sync'd, but sometimes I forget.

  • Merging files would be very useful for a multi day trip. For me this would be a week of touring from A to B. For a Tour de France rider it would also be nice to see their entire 3 weeks effort in one file and map.

  • 508 votes and requested since 4-Dec-2013 and still no action.  Disappointing.

Also, all the 1+'s in the world don't help unless you VOTE.  Hit the uparrow on the topic to add a vote for the feature.  :)

  • In the mean time this worked for me

    1.  Download the two GPX files you want to combine off of Strava into a new folder on to your computer.  Name the folder anything you want

    2. Open with notepad the second part of your ride. The restart of your recording.  Start from the beginning of the script until you reach <gpx.  Not very far into the first line.  Delete the script up until the <gpx.  Click on "Edit" then "Select all".  Click on "Edit" then "Copy".

    3. Open with note pad your first ride the one that crapped out so you had to start recording again.  Go all the way to end of the script until you see </gpx.  Put your cursor right before the <of your </gpx and click on "Edit" then "Paste".  Save the file and close it.

    4. Go to strava & delete the two rides. Go to upload activity on Strava and upload & rename the file you just saved.  Worked perfect. All segments, calories, miles etc were in the new ride.  I am guessing you could probably combine more than two recordings for one ride if your recording device crapped out a few times on the ride.

  • Good idea for when your main recorder dies, as long as the times are consecutive.

  • This would be very useful when you combine a long warmup with a Zwift or SufferFest workout.
