Custom Unit Preferences (Miles, Kg, Celsius)

I'd like more control over what units are used in the app.  Specifically, I'd like miles, kilograms and degrees Celsius.  Miles is the most important to me so at the moment I'm stuck with other units which mean nothing to me (pounds and Fahrenheit).

Can we just get fields in the settings area for each unit of measurement please?

  • We will have terraformed Mars before this happens.

  • I'm thinking we'll find intelligent life elsewhere in the universe before this happens. There obviously isn't any anywhere in the Strava offices.

  • Customization is the thing - I'm happy with Km, Kg, ºC but I hate the speed unit changing to minutes per km when I walk or run.  Who uses that - I have to convert to Kmph every time - silly.  Give us both, if anybody actually prefers time/unit distance instead of distance/per hour

  • I'm new to Strava - everyone seems to be using it these days so thought I'd try it - but this is inflexibility is a massive oversight.

  • Please add this support, I use Miles for distance and Celsius for temperature, as most people in the UK do.

  • I'm cancelling my premium subscription over this. I've had replies on support tickets a couple of times with no timeline at all for what should surely be a pretty quick fix.

  • I would also like Strava to switch between km for runs and miles for rides. The roads are measured in miles here, but I haven't found another runner talking in minutes per mile.

  • My Garmin edge 520 allows me to select Statute as the default unit measurement but also allows me to go into the settings and change Fahrenheit to Celsius. Like a lot of UK people Fahrenheit means nothing to me. Why can't Strava have this simple yet useful function? Maybe I should be using Garmin Connect more, maybe suggest to them "Garmin Segments" :) this might get implemented faster than this current thread request and drag a lot of customers back to them?

  • Same here (UK) - combination of any measurement of basic units would make a lot of users and paying members like me very happy.

Its a basic request and hope someone takes note to bump this request up the development list (to the top please!).  Its not always about new features to keep the customer happy, its getting the basics right with a small change that would make a big difference.

  • Come on Strava this would be such a great addition, for all the reasons stated above.

This app started in the USA which has the backwards imperial measuring system. If you implemented dual display more and more Us based people could lear metric..

  • Please have a look at the attached

Now, what is the reason you're not providing users to select Celsius again?

  • The reasons must be - parochiality, inflexibility, indifference, unresponsiveness and cost.clearly, Strava don't want to make any changes.  This has been on-going for 3 or 4 yrs at least without any change.  Many people want/need the change as a glance at the map above makes clear.

Clearly, Strava don't want to make any changes.  This has been on-going for 3 or 4 yrs at least without any change.  Many people want/need the change as a glance at the map above makes clear.  The colour coding there applies also to all other metric measurement systems, more of less. The POMs still use 'miles' but also 'MKS - meter, kilogram, second' system elsewhere.

I suspect the 'support' system is one of those to allow people to feel their views are being considered but in reality, it achieves nothing.  Nothing will change unless people really do stop paying for Strava, and even then the US customer base is possibly big enough.

I've essentially stopped using Strava in favour of my Garmin App/website

  • +1 for having individual unit of measurement settings for each of distance, height, weight, temperature.  Thanks

  • I know Strava will have to re-code their website and apps but if Garmin can do it with the Connect site...

  • It's just a display unit. The data remains the same. Front end work mainly. If putting it in as a setting option is too much hassle then at least a button to flip from F to C on the UI even if we have to click it each time (or just remember it in a cookie).

  • No need to worry about this anymore. Strava now supports emojis! ;-)

  • Any news on this one?

Fahrenheit is pretty meaningless to a lot of us Brits under the age of sixty, however we still commonly use miles.

Come on Strava, this must be pretty low hanging fruit. You'll make a lot of people happy. Probably amazed also, but you've just said that you'll add extra weight options above 200lbs* so miracles do happen.

*Again the option to use stones here would be nice, but even I realise what a ridiculous measurement system that is, even if everyone in the UK uses it.

  • It's a bit mad one can't change it.  I didn't know.  I changed over to Metric a couple of years ago and I'm so used to it now I don't care anymore.

My wife is a miles person and I wanted to change her Strava to Miles but Metres for height gain.

But can't do that.   Ridiculous.  Strava what you at?????

  • Come on Strava.. lets see you fix this for all of us here in the UK, and elsewhere around the world!

  • Same here I would like to switch individual units rather than the Imperial/Metric only switch as currently available. My personal combo would be Miles, Kg and Celsius. I might even go premium again if you implement this.

  • Strava, there's no excuse, get this sorted. Otherwise, YOU SUCK!

It is also rather telling that this support forum only appears to support English (US) as an option rather than English (UK) !

  • It does appear that this requirement has been in discussion in the forums for sometime.

The Samsung options do separate the options for Temperature and distance.   Fitbit don't appear to bother with temperature and have not assessed the Microsoft watch options.

Surely though the options to separate  are possible with a bit of code although I have no idea what the separation of existing code impacts the associated release.....

Garmin Developers - please for the is it possible for us UK lot to have C&F and KM & Miles separated?

  • Come on Strava, disappointing to come into a thread so many years old to find such a basic feature thats been so desired has still not been implemented

  • Absolutely ridiculous that this is still not delivered by Strava.  I suggest anyone reading to the end of this post a new "feature request" (or bug report, or other form of interaction) as well as putting a +1 here.  Otherwise it will languish as a contender for "longest running obvious feature request" but no more than that.

  • Tim had a good idea with:

'It's just a display unit. The data remains the same. Front end work mainly. If putting it in as a setting option is too much hassle then at least a button to flip from F to C on the UI even if we have to click it each time (or just remember it in a cookie).'

    This would be quick

  • FWIW, I contacted Strava support to find out if there was a solution. They said no, and then I asked if they had any plans to implement anything:

    Hello,

Sorry but right now I do not envision this feature being changed in this manner.
Please accept my sincere apologies and keep up the great work.

    Cheers,
    Rudolph

  • 179+ comments in support of this new feature is something your customers want. Poor response and not what many want to hear.

What part of customer feedback does warrant a proper review?!
