Custom Unit Preferences (Miles, Kg, Celsius)

I'd like more control over what units are used in the app.  Specifically, I'd like miles, kilograms and degrees Celsius.  Miles is the most important to me so at the moment I'm stuck with other units which mean nothing to me (pounds and Fahrenheit).

Can we just get fields in the settings area for each unit of measurement please?

  • As a new user of Strava I'm gobsmacked to find this issue has been going on for at least 2.5 years and 137 comments. The ability to set units of measurement as per regional custom or personal preference is really, really basic stuff. Come on Strava - pull your finger out!

  • +1; I have to put up with km so the other two are correct.

  • Amazes me that Strava doesn't show Celsius and other units base don the location of the customer. They really do need to get a bit more international.

  • Amazes me that anyone would think Strava care about this (type of) request !!  (and yes, I signed/added to it a LONG time ago)...

2 scenarios to explain it :

     1.  They have discussed the request, looked at roughly what would be involved in implementing it and concluded that the business case does not stack up for them - too much work for some happier freebie customers, not an increase in "Premium" membership or additional side-revenue.

    or

    2.  They don't understand it/Haven't realised this thread is here..

if (1) then fair play but I think they're dead wrong - I for one am NOT going to go premium as long as this feature doesn't exist - it's fundamental to my use of such a service.

and if it's (2) they are just as unworthy of my Premium cash because this is basic stuff, a long-running subscriber feature-request and really not that hard to get your head around, Strava guys.

So, which do you reckon it is ?

  • I'm just one more person who would greatly appreciate using miles, kilograms and Celsius.

  • I know this is more of a work around than a solution but I made this Google Chrome plugin to show temp in Celsius rather than Fahrenheit:

I've posted it on here before but thought I'd do it again just in case anyone that might find it useful missed it.

  • Fantastic, the plugin does indeed work. It's like an entirely new feature has been unlocked from Strava, temperature readings that actually make sense!

But c'mon Strava, if someone can make a web plugin to do the job then your dev team should find it a matter of a moments work. It's been two and a half years this has been asked for.

This is really really basic stuff, that should have been in from day one.

  • Yes please.

I'd also like the option to change according to sport. Mainly because most of the pools around the UK are measured in metres - certainly all the ones I have swum in - and it would be great to get the option to have min/100m for swimming while still having miles for running and cycling (and of course m elevation, kg, C).

  • We will have terraformed Mars before this happens.

  • I'm thinking we'll find intelligent life elsewhere in the universe before this happens. There obviously isn't any anywhere in the Strava offices.

  • Customization is the thing - I'm happy with Km, Kg, ºC but I hate the speed unit changing to minutes per km when I walk or run.  Who uses that - I have to convert to Kmph every time - silly.  Give us both, if anybody actually prefers time/unit distance instead of distance/per hour

  • I'm cancelling my premium subscription over this. I've had replies on support tickets a couple of times with no timeline at all for what should surely be a pretty quick fix.

  • My Garmin edge 520 allows me to select Statute as the default unit measurement but also allows me to go into the settings and change Fahrenheit to Celsius. Like a lot of UK people Fahrenheit means nothing to me. Why can't Strava have this simple yet useful function? Maybe I should be using Garmin Connect more, maybe suggest to them "Garmin Segments" :) this might get implemented faster than this current thread request and drag a lot of customers back to them?

  • Come on Strava this would be such a great addition, for all the reasons stated above.

This app started in the USA which has the backwards imperial measuring system. If you implemented dual display more and more Us based people could lear metric..

  • It's not a Strava fix, but if you use Chrome, you can use this free bolt on to make it celsius

  • Still waiting Strava!  Picking units of measurement is pretty basic, and much needed, I keep having to use an online converter to interpret my data....

  • Just adding another voice to this request.

Everyone I know; runs in miles, swims in metres and cycling is spilt evenly km or miles.

Weight is stones and lbs, or kg (lbs on their are are exclusively used for baking, I don't think Strava tracks baking).

Temperature is neatly divided by age; over 60 it's F, under 50 it's C, in-between some of us are really hard to please and use F above freezing and C below (I'm not suggesting that as a realistic option).

    Thanks

  • Agree. Being British I run in miles and mph and everything else I do is in metric.

  • This is just ridiculous. Hundreds of likes, eight pages of support over many years and Strava just keeps ignoring this aspect of basic funtionality...

Maybe it's time for more concerted action? How about a Facebook campaign to have UK subscribers cancel their subscriptions over the summer in protest?

  • Over 5 years of users asking for what must be a childishly easy modification to make i.e. allow users to simply select they preferred method of measurment.

Every time a Strava bod reads one of these for 5 years they have decided doing nothing is the best way to serve their users. Seems counter to the public image they spend so much effort projecting.

Maybe they care that much about us all after all.
