Custom Unit Preferences (Miles, Kg, Celsius)

I'd like more control over what units are used in the app.  Specifically, I'd like miles, kilograms and degrees Celsius.  Miles is the most important to me so at the moment I'm stuck with other units which mean nothing to me (pounds and Fahrenheit).

Can we just get fields in the settings area for each unit of measurement please?

    Hey Folks,

Our New Feature Ideas thread in the Community Forums is a place for athlete suggestions to improve Strava. We love big and small ideas. If you like someone else’s recommendation, vote on it or provide a comment of your own.

One thing to remember: just because something's popular doesn't mean it'll be implemented. Our forums are just one component of our decision-making process. While a ton of ideas are genuinely valuable, we need to be selective and balance our priorities.

    Thanks for understanding!

  • Same here. I use miles but deg F means absolutely nothing to me and indeed the two share no relationship at all.

In the UK we use miles for the road but some people like to use km. We have deg C for temperature but some prefer deg F. Nobody uses pounds for weight we use stones, or sometimes kg

Simply have a choice for each unit. As it's impossible to group them.

  • Agreed; please can we have the option to display:

    Temperature in "Degrees centigrade"

    Distance in "Miles"

    Elevation in "Metres"

    Weight in "Kilograms"

  • Couldn't agree more. I'm also in the UK so use miles for distance and speed, however elevation displayed in feet, temperature in deg.F and weight in pounds means that these aspects of my data is absolutely meaningless to me until I check it using the Garmin Connect site which give much greater control over which units are used.

  • Garmin Connect do it OK & call it Statue UK

    Temperature in "Degrees centigrade"

    Distance in "Miles"

    Elevation in "Metres"

    Weight in "Kilograms

  • Yes please!

I'd rather not have to choose between miles and degrees Celsius. In the UK, we don't really do KM or degrees Fahrenheit, so either option is a compromise!

  • Please have a look at the attached

Now, what is the reason you're not providing users to select Celsius again?

  • Yes please Strava it is silly how you cannot change to suit at the moment. Temperature in "Degrees centigrade" Distance in "Miles" Elevation in "Metres" Weight in "Kilograms Many Thanks Stu

  • We've been asking for this for 4+ years now. Why has this not been implemented?

Strava we really want an answer!

I would be much happier if you spent time giving those whom without ypu would not exist the tiny details they need to complete their experience rather than "our new feature so you can 'post' crap into a news feed" that nobody reads. Why spend all that development cost and time creating something nobody asked for than giving us the simple measurements we want and that you already have but badly grouped together.

Your act, sorted out, soon please!

  • Strava please do something.  This post has been going on for 5 years.  All we want is selectable units rather than you telling us that if we have miles then we have to have Farenheit!

  • Strava, I can only assume the reason this has not been implemented in the last 5 years is due to its difficulty. Let me help out.

    Fahrenheit to Celsius - T('C) = (T('F) - 32) / 1.8)

  • Yes please!!!! I found it hard enough to convert to miles, but I simply CANNOT get my head around the stupid, archaic feet, pounds and Fahrenheit units. Surely this should be quite easy to do.

  • In Canada we like a mix of Kilometers and pounds so I guess a full Customizable profil would be great.

  • +1 from me, miles + kilograms + metres + centigrade would be good :)

  • Yes please too!

I would like to see temperature in Degrees Centigrade and distance in Miles please

  • I agree 100%. I have no idea what fahrenheit is in degrees. All unit options please!!!!

  • I could tell you how far a mile was, but have no clue about Fahrenheit. Would prefer an option for stones as well just to complicate matters.

  • Additionally, I think it would be great if we could set default units for each activity. For example, I swim in a pool measured in meters, but when I run I prefer the units to be in miles. So I could set my swim default to meters (or km) and my run default to miles.

Another thing that would be useful is a toggle switch on each activity that toggles between units. Sometimes it's nice to be able to quickly switch between miles/km when viewing a run, for example. And with the units setting deep in a couple of menus, it's nearly impossible to do this now.

  • I disagree completely. The whole point of the SI is that the units form a coherent system when used together. The only choice that should be offered is between either absolute or Celsius temperature.

  • YES PLEASE!

    distance = miles

    elevation = metres

    weight =kg

or simply a dropdown box for each measurement in the settings

  • I have installed the above plugin and it does exactly what it's designed to do. Until Strava implement the requested functionality, I strongly recommend this plugin.

  • I've just changed from training for a marathon (miles) to a 5k (km) so I'd like the ability to swap how I'm displayed my stats and change things on the fly.

  • I'm new to Strava - everyone seems to be using it these days so thought I'd try it - but this is inflexibility is a massive oversight.

  • Please add this support, I use Miles for distance and Celsius for temperature, as most people in the UK do.

  • I would also like Strava to switch between km for runs and miles for rides. The roads are measured in miles here, but I haven't found another runner talking in minutes per mile.

  • Same here (UK) - combination of any measurement of basic units would make a lot of users and paying members like me very happy.

Its a basic request and hope someone takes note to bump this request up the development list (to the top please!).  Its not always about new features to keep the customer happy, its getting the basics right with a small change that would make a big difference.

  • The reasons must be - parochiality, inflexibility, indifference, unresponsiveness and cost.clearly, Strava don't want to make any changes.  This has been on-going for 3 or 4 yrs at least without any change.  Many people want/need the change as a glance at the map above makes clear.

Clearly, Strava don't want to make any changes.  This has been on-going for 3 or 4 yrs at least without any change.  Many people want/need the change as a glance at the map above makes clear.  The colour coding there applies also to all other metric measurement systems, more of less. The POMs still use 'miles' but also 'MKS - meter, kilogram, second' system elsewhere.

I suspect the 'support' system is one of those to allow people to feel their views are being considered but in reality, it achieves nothing.  Nothing will change unless people really do stop paying for Strava, and even then the US customer base is possibly big enough.

I've essentially stopped using Strava in favour of my Garmin App/website

  • +1 for having individual unit of measurement settings for each of distance, height, weight, temperature.  Thanks

  • It's just a display unit. The data remains the same. Front end work mainly. If putting it in as a setting option is too much hassle then at least a button to flip from F to C on the UI even if we have to click it each time (or just remember it in a cookie).

  • FWIW, I contacted Strava support to find out if there was a solution. They said no, and then I asked if they had any plans to implement anything:

    Hello,

Sorry but right now I do not envision this feature being changed in this manner.
Please accept my sincere apologies and keep up the great work.

    Cheers,
