Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'

It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.

What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.

Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.

If we could import a route (gpx or  select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

  • Could do this very easily when using Runkeeper. Why Strava can i not link one of 'My Routes' to a manual entry. can only be a simply bit of programming. Come on Strava sort it !!!!!!

  • Would like to add my name to the list of people not being listened to here.

  • My wife said she would join if this was a feature.  Additionally, it would be great to add somebody else to your activity (not sure if that's a separate thread or not).  My wife and I do many runs together, and she doesn't want to have to record the runs since I'm already doing it.

  • Thanks for the tip, Phil Ware!  Worked like a charm.

  • Dmitriy K.

You can give your wife your run data by exporting it from your account to a GPX file and import it to hers. I have done this a few times with friends when they didn't have the app running.

  • Pretty basic functionality this.  Widely available on many of the free apps. Come on Strava raise your game.

  • Another request for this. I use the Strava mobile app for cycling which is great but don't want to carry my phone or buy another gps device for running. I live in a hilly area so the elevation data is really useful - I've created the routes so the information is there but I can't use it. As well as being frustrating to use, it also undermines the Dashboard and Training Logs which is a shame as these are a great tools otherwise.

  • I would also like to use a feature allowing me to show one of  'My Routes' on my record when making a manual entry.

  • Over the last two weeks strava (my phones GPS?) crippled three of my runs, with anything between 400m and 6km missing, what's the point?  Is there a way to map an actual run (overlay it) to a route after the fact?

  • It doesn't take a year to implement this, come on already.

  • Thanks Phil Ware for the MyGPSFiles method - that works !

  • Actually, I'm at a total loss as to what the route builder feature is meant to be used for if you can't check the route in for an activity!

  • I agree with this issue: sometimes I don't want to carry my smartphone but want to register my activity in Strava.
Then being able to use a route from my route-collection (or copy a former activity!) would be very convenient.
It also adds to building up a full activity history.

  • I have a solution which isn't perfect, but does the job for my requirements. My data is imported from Garmin, but since Garmin Express was introduced many of my runs fail to upload, just go missing instead. If it's a route I've run before I export the route, edit the date and import back into Garmin. Ok, the time, splits etc may be wrong, but the route, distance and elevation figures are correct. If I haven't run it before I ask a friend to export their Garmin run, which I then import. If we're running together fine, if it's a race, the time may be wrong but everything else will be right.

  • UMM Strava, even clunky ole MapMyRide lets us do this when our gps is broken on my phone, or similar... I know strava is for gps devices mostly, but why have a route entry if I cannot say "I rode this" and log it... DUMB!

  • Why can't you add a map to a manually created ride?

  • I can only add my voice to this request. I moved from Map My Ride to Strava and this is a necessary and ESSENTIAL for rides where there was a 'technology failure'. I am kind of shocked that Strava does not enable this feature. I want to record my activity, whether it is through the Strava app, GPS or manually. VERY FRUSTRATING.

  • Adding in another comment to hopefully bump this user story for appending manually created routes on a manually created activity into the planned section of your dev tickets. Seems like a pretty useful / desired feature for user/customer base.

  • I just signed up for Strava because they implemented OpenStreetMap, but not having this basic feature of logging a route is a deal killer for me. I'm not always going to have a gps but I want to review the route I took. Guess I'm checking out Runkeeper now.

  • I felt like a muppet when i couldn't work out how to attach the My Route to a manual entry as it seemed the obvious thing to do.,,,makes sense now why I struggled: it doesn't exist.

I also don't understand Phil's entry on how to change the time/date stamp either, so here's another comment to try and raise this issue on the Strava 'priority' list. Please can some techno chap take 5 mins out of his day to sort it out! :)

    Thanks

  • I had this same thing today. Lost the real time data so thought I would just create the route and log it. This is possible in Mapmyride so why not in Strava? Given that Strava is also incapable of giving turn by turn directions like the estimable (and free) Rungo app, what on earth is the point of the route creator, other than for playing with possible routes before an outing? This is very poor indeed.

  • So strava lost two my last rides, this is really frustrating, trying to add it manually, but without map its pretty useless.

  • A somewhat simple idea would be a huge value add to a great application. Given the amount of people and the relative ease of implementing such a feature when can we expect this update?

  • I too am very frustrated that I cannot create a manual entry using a saved route.  What is the point of a route (except showing others where you would like to run).  It is really frustrating when you do a particular run regularly and you lose the result due to a failure of your device.  You cannot recreate it for comparison and training purposes.  It must be easy to program.  Strava please get your act together and do it.

  • About time now this feature was added pretty hopeless without it for a manual entry time and distance aren't much good really you cold use a stopwatch on the phone and google maps and do better. Can't be this hard to do get it together guys bring it in for premium users at least!

  • Can't agree more!  Switched to Strava from Map My Run (where this feature is available, even with a free account) - I expected to have the same options here - if not more, as a premium user.  Especially frustrating when the app doesn't record/crashes (happens a lot lately) and I want to add a route to the manual entry....

  • hmmmmmm. I wonder if anybody actually reads this.

Why would I manually want to create a route if not to add it to my runs? Really frustrating.

  • We are all agreed that Strava ought to make it possible to include a built route into a Manual entry and for other activities.but someone said it was not high on their priorities.  Well lets make it high on their priorities by getting as many people as possible to contact them and complain.  If we find a way to make sure Strava listen to or read our opinions and then ask all our contacts, followers and friends  to do it also we might get a result.  Does anyone know how to get an opinion in front of anyone at Strava?  I dont but I would like to know.
