Attach a Route (map) when entering a 'Manual Entry'

It is really frustrating when a device destroys your data!!! In my case an 18 hour ride and nothing to show for it.

What do we do .. only solution at the moment is to add a Manual Entry.

Currently there is no image of the route taken when adding a 'Manual Entry'.

If we could import a route (gpx or  select one of 'My Routes') it would greatly enhance the entry.

Note: no time data would be available from the file ... that is expected.

This feature is available on Android but not yet on iOS or web. I'm waiting for an update from the team at Strava, and I'll keep you all posted.

  • For manual entry, a very good improvement would be a "select route" button.   My device sometimes dies mid-run and I lose my data--or the power button gets bumped.   The whole reason I saved routes on the site was so that I could use them for actual activities.  Then I realized that any added activities cannot use my existing routes, nor can I use an existing route for a manual entry.  Thus there is absolutely no meaningful purpose for them other than sharing with friends--which really isn't necessary because they can see the routes on my activities..

  • Agreed. It is a big shame that on manual entry I cannot select one of my pre-defined routes. Please can we have this !

  • Or, in my case, I do the same few routes every week, and it would be nice to attach one of 'My Routes' to those runs even though I don't bring my phone along with me.

  • Agree 100% with the idea of a "Select Route" feature when conducting a manual upload.  This gives a route map and also an approximate elevation profile and although quite a basic change, would add immensely to the current information available with a basic manual upload.

  • I agree, I want to add a route that I will be doing in 2 weeks so I can look at the elevation on strava.  I have a gpx file from someone's map my ride and I'd like to import it as a route on Strava but so far I don't see any way I can do that without building the route from scratch....

  • Map-My-Ride lets you manually trace your route on a map and then attach that map to a workout that was entered manually.  It would be great if Strava had a similar tool.

  • This would also allow elevation to be included in a Manual entry.

  • ATTN: Update from a Strava ambassador to me.

Hi Vicky, I agree this would be a great feature and i'll make sure our team considers it in our product planning, but I can't make any promises.... Best, STRAVA.

Well its good news, look at the silver lining.

  • This is a feature that will stop me using Strava.

    C'mon guys add it already!

  • Phone died, and it looks like I grew wings to my car. I know my route, just want to edit my route.

  • Just came back from a ride where the app just seem to stop on a number of occasions - I'd like to 'fill in the gaps' but I can't. PLEASE ALLOW MANUAL ROUTE ENTRY. PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!

  • Just trying to migrate from Map My Ride to Strava... however, Strava will not only not import any manually added routes from Map My Ride, but will also not allow me to log a manually created route in Strava!?

Uhhh... yeah... kind of pointless feature then being able to create the route if you can't actually log it! Let's face it... GPS devices don't always work correctly, and we don't always remember to log our rides... so ability to log stuff after the fact is kind of essential...

Looks like I'm going to have to remain a Map My Rides user for the time being :(

  • Another vote for this feature request. It is extremely frustrating to spend the time creating a route and then not being able to select it to post a work. What is the point of creating a route if you can't use it? A comment on when this will be available would be great. I see the original message string started 3 years ago so...

  • So this has been requested for years. Seems simple enough and gets over Strava fails.

    When will this be added??

  • Agreed.  Garmin USB connector broke so can't upload my 4 hour ride up Haleakala and can't enter elevation gain on manual entry.

  • This is exactly the idea I had in mind. As is already said, Map-My-Ride has this feature, as well as the USATF site. Having this on Strava will truly bring it far ahead of the others.

  • Love the new route builder, but would be great to have the option when manually adding a ride, to choose from your created routes.

  • Indeed a long overdue feature. Runkeeper has had this for years already.

  • I ride frequently in an area with no cell signal and thus I am unable to use my phone to record my ride. I would love to be able to manually add my ride in WITH a map of the route. The inability to do this will deter me from using Strava in the future.

  • I agree...this is very lame.  2 years of people complaining about the same thing and nothing has been done!  I'm new to Strava and found it very frustrating that such a popular app has missed the mark on what would be a very simple feature.  Create a Route, add a Manual Entry, Load a Saved Route.  See, easy!!  It appears that Strava hasn't been listening to anyone...

  • Add me to the list. 106 mile ride and nothing to show for it.

  • Over 2.5 years and 162 comments later and this basic capability is still not available?  This is a great feature that MapMyRide offers but I would like to transition to Strava.  With all the hype around Strava it is pretty disappointing that I can't link my workouts to specific routes that I have manually created in Strava.  I don't currently own a GPS enabled bike computer so perhaps Strava isn't a good fit for me.  I also predominantly ride in remote areas with no cell service so I am not sure the mobile app would meet my needs either.  In any case, it seems quite silly that this feature hasn't been incorporated but maybe I am just thinking about tracking my performance all wrong.

  • Yes please.

Looks like this has been on the request list from a lot of folk for quite some time.  It doesn't happen often (to anyone) but when it does happen it would be SOOOO useful to add the route data (even without the time and energy data).

    Please...

  • So this issue was raised over 3 years ago and we're still waiting for the feature to be added.  As a software developer that is totally unacceptable.  My normal run takes place mainly through woods so the GPS on my phone doesn't record the route properly in Strava.  I've made a close approximation using the route creation tool in Strava (which has its own bugs) and want to manually upload my runs with a time from my watch and attach the map and compare the runs, very little of this seems possible in Strava.  Anyone have any better suggestions.

  • It is so frustrating that your phone app can show the map but not the PC.... and very frustrating how long people have been asking for this issue to be sorted out! Years!!! I might move to map my run/ride!

  • I signed up for Strava hoping to create a route manually for my regular run and upload tcx files from my MilestonePod (no location, only speed, distance, cadence, etc.) so I could overlay my performance onto the map.

I found this thread when searching for clues how to upload to the route I created.  Seems lots of people have been asking for something similar for years but it can't be done.  Some say MapMyRide offers this, so I'll head over there to check it out.  Perhaps Strava is not the application for me.

  • Pleeeeeease let us have the ability to add an activity using an existing route for iOS and web. Oh and while you're at it, allow us to edit an activity (in map mode) to add - not just remove! - segments. I went on an epic backpacking trip and on the second day, forgot to start Strava for a coulple hours and so there's a big gap in my record. *sadface*

  • This function would make strava just that much better. Endomondo can do it and I think about dropping strava frequently because of the lack of ability to attach a saved route to a manually added activity. Some adventure races are strict with not allowing smart watches and tracking devices, often we are racing remotely where phone battery is best saved for emergency only and turned off as required by race organisers. Would be nice to get home and be able to create the route we raced using the topo maps distributed for navigation and add the activity later.
