Sync Nike+ to Strava

Hi,

I've started using Strava to track my cycling and like the app.  I have however already got a long history of running with Nike+ GPS devices and am happy with what I have.  I understand that Nike now offer the ability to integrate with their service through the developer.nike.com, is this something you could consider and a new feature.  It would be nice to see my training data in one place without the need to buy a new GPS watch (i.e. a garmin).

Thanks

  • I've downloaded my Nike+ data using several of the tools mentioned above however I have 282 files (282 runs). When I try to import into Strava I'm limited to 25 files. Rather than having to run 12 imports is there a way to import all at once? Note i tried Matt's tool however it comes up with a time error (I am in Oz).

  • I'm waiting for this functionality as well. Honestly, I'd consider becoming a paying member if that is what it took.

  • I just overhauled my Nike+ to Strava exporter. Hopefully it makes the process more reliable and easy, without having to export GPX files.

You can test it here: https://mattstuehler.com/lab/NikePlus/

If you're able to try it out - I'd really appreciate your feedback, especially regarding the data accuracy and timestamps (dealing with timezones has been really tricky...)

Suggestions for new features or other ideas for improvement are also welcome.

  • Hey Matt.

You app looks great.  I've been meaning to try it for ages.  I've got the app to list all my runs, and I've easily got my last two runs from Nike+ pulled over to Strava.  Quick question though, is it possible to import more than one run into Strava at a time?  I can select multiple runs OK (by year, month etc), but the upload to options seems to be run by run, where as the download allows you to download multiple runs.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Julian,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Good question. Currently, it's possible to to bulk download your Nike runs to .gpx files, since that's a relatively quick process.

However, sending runs directly from Nike to Strava, RunKeeper, MapMyRun, etc, takes longer - e.g., the Strava API sometimes takes a five seconds or more to receive a run and return a confirmation.

So - I was a concerned that a bunch of users could each "bulk send" a few hundred runs at the same time and swamp my server. So I made that a one-at-a-time operation.

As soon as I work out all the kinks and figure out a good way to throttle the load - I plan to implement a bulk upload feature too.

In the meantime - let me know how it works for you, and any other thoughts you have for improving it.

  • Thanks for the response Matt.  I'm happy to do them one at a time for now as I'm seeing how they import.  I look forward to bulk import feature.  Cheers.

  • Really disappointed that Strava don't seem to be bothered about this. I'm not that worried about transferring all my previous data across but would like to be able to start logging current runs using my watch instead of a not very accurate iPhone App. I would be happy to pay the premium subscription if this was a feature but at the moment I only log about half of my runs on Strava because I don't want the hassle of running with my phone and watch both tracking at the same time.

  • I totally agree Steve.. I also have the Nike+ running watch and am extremely disappointed that I cant easily sync my data with Strava.
Any plans on adding this feature Strava?

  • Dave, Steve,

I recently launched an iPhone app to sync your Nike+ runs to Strava (and RunKeeper and MapMyRun) - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nike+-data-downloader/id969867953?mt=8

It's free, and so far, the feedback has been pretty good.

If you give it a try - I'd love to know what you think!

  • Hi Matt, the App sounds great but so far I've been unable to get it to work. Whoa, hold the press!! Just tried again and I seem to be in! And it works perfectly including segments as well! Awesome. Many thanks.

  • Steve - glad the app is working for you.

I've noticed that there's a small (but measurable) percentage of users for whom the app doesn't work - I haven't been able to figure out why, yet. (The iPhone app is more reliable than the web app, at least for now.) Let me know if you run into any trouble.

  • Steven, it's a pain that it can't be done directly but Matt's App "Nike+ Data Downloader" works brilliantly including Heart Rate Data if you have the Nike+ compatible HRM. I download my watch to the computer, open the App on my phone and then send the data to Strava.

  • I'm new to Strava and I've been using Matt Stuehler site which is awesome but the exported data and strava dont seem to mix well. Notice a few difference in pace and distance from the watch :(

  • I've just bought my Nike+ SportWatch because it was the only option available in my small city for a wrist GPS, and get really disappointed at first when I foud out I wasn't able to upload my activities to my Strava. But after a small search on the web I found your site and the magic did its work; thanks a lot Matt!

  • Thanks for your hard work Matt!

Strava, it would still be really nice to have this integration :)

The other brand watches are ugly, I like this one.

  • Awesome. I guess I should have searched around a little sooner. I love Strava but got an incredible deal on the Nike sports watch, I was soo disappointed when I "thought" I'd be stuck on Nike+. Thanks man!!!

  • Hi

    I ran 15K this morning using NIke+

The run was out 7.5K and back, covering the exact reverse route, of 7.5K @ 1:18:19

However when i upload to Strava it only shows the distance as 7.5K but the time as 1:18:19................it appears to have ignored that i ran the reverse leg

    Any ideas?

  • Hi, the app is not working anymore. Is a temporary problem? I´d like to know to decide if I continue with my Strava premium account or go back to the free one.

  • I have the same problem. Unable to upload anything using either of the 2 main 3rd party apps. Very frustrating.

  • You can use this link to export your NIkeplus data https://nikeplusexporter.rhysmccaig.com/

extract the gpx or tcx file and upload it in Strava.

  • Has anyone noticed using the apple watch for your nike plus runs no longer adds gps info to strava using https://nikeplusexporter.rhysmccaig.com/   Is there a workaround.  I called Nike support and they said switching Date & Time - Time Zone - Set Automatically to manual would fix the problem.  Tried a run since and no luck.  So all my apple watch nike runs upload to strava without gps data :(.  Let me know if you have a solution.  Thank you
