Manually add Distance for an Indoor/Stationary Activity

When uploading indoor activities like indoor cycling or treadmill, no distance appears. Only HR. Would be useful to activate a field in wich we can type in the distance

  • Started spinning classes & this is really annoying. You even link in that I did a spin class (PureGym) but won’t let me input the metrics from that class 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

  • Battery dies, etc. It would be a good idea to allow people put a final destination in. I understand the problems with this. An additional point, make your app consume less battery so my Samsung S8+ will last on a 4+ hour ride after a full charge....

  • Strava added the activity type 'indoor run' on their app on Samsung galaxy watch/gear S3 and it tracks the distance on treadmill too and quite acurately; so the need to add distance manually has ended for me atleast. Finally! (I think same would be the case with thier app on iOS etc too)

    But I can still see people wanting this feature and rightly so.

  • so lets get this right, there are over 9 pages of athletes asking to manually add daostance to a workout and strava STILL dont wont to do anything about it ?

    c'mon strava people are asking for something which i assume is a relatively easy fix and you are ignoring us  ?

    why ? is the reason for this cost perhaps ? is it a vastly expensive fix, let us know because as i read through the pages above this has been asked for since 2014 and it feels like you are just ignoring your customers.

    i eagerly await your comments.

  • Strava Summit is the biggest waste of money I have spent in a long time. I at least thought I might get better customer service, but that turns out to not be the case at all, also pretty clear from this thread that I am not the only one. Definitely won't be paying for this again.

    It's useless to me if I cannot keep track of my distance on indoor cycles.

  • I use Garmin to record all my activities and then the app syncs to Strava. I still cant believe that after all these years they cant open the feature to allow us to update the distance for some of these activities. I have also just signed up for Summit thinking it will be a feature that is unlocked but apparently not (I will be cancelling that subscription straight away). I know the workaround it to add the workout manually but you then loose all the HR feature which I do like to have. Oh well, maybe one day Strave will bring them selves forward into the 21st century and realise then need to play catch up with the other apps out there that let you edit all fields. Come on Strava, sort it out or at least give us an honest explanation as to why.

  • I have a hack that worked for me, but you have to manually edit the tcx file exported from Garmin prior to importing into Strava.

    1. Export the tcx from garmin

    2. Open the tcx in a decent text editor like notepad ++ (it will help format the xml text so you can read it better)

    3 Go to the end of the file and find the last Trackpoint element. See Example Below. (The last Trackpoint will have a closing tag of </Track> right after it)

    4. Find the <DistanceMeters> sub element and edit from 0.0 to the total distance in meters  ( all of my trackpoints where 0.0 for the indoor rides)  Make sure to save file before uploading to Strava.

       Presumably, you have the distance in miles or Kilometers within Garmin Connect and you can use a calculator to do the math and get meters.

    Literally, this now means you traveled the entire distance in the last few seconds, but the total mileage shows up and the heart rate data is still there.  I may get around to a better solution at some point and post it then if I do.

    I went 18.2 miles for the ride and entered meters  29290.0

    <Trackpoint>
    <Time>2017-12-07T22:43:07.000Z</Time>
    <AltitudeMeters>42.79999923706055</AltitudeMeters>
    <DistanceMeters>29290.0</DistanceMeters>
    <HeartRateBpm>
    <Value>113</Value>
    </HeartRateBpm>
    <Extensions>
    <ns3:TPX/>
    </Extensions>
    </Trackpoint>
    </Track>

  • I am truly astonished at this lack of basic functionality.

    Strava is recording incorrect distances by some margin and there is no functionality to correct the error?

    Because of how fundamental this omission is, and considering how long Strava has been going, it can only be by conscious decision and design.

    This is throwing my logs, and other people's logs, way off kilter.

    Please reconsider this change request.

    Thank you.

  • Having read so many people's comments here.

    Yes, I have subscribed to Strava but I am now looking for an alternative that either is more accurate with the distances or provides functionality to edit those distances where the application has recorded the distance incorrectly.

  • What a shitty official answer. Typical of Strava. You won't get my summit subscription while this trend continues.

  • This thread started six years ago. Interesting that a company can ignore it's clients reasonable pleas for that amount of time.

    I was considering the premium membership, just based on how much I enjoyed the idea of Strava. I am no longer considering this package

  • Wow. Six years and counting. Runalyze is free, allows edits like this and is amazing for analytics. I’ll never pay for Strava again.
