  • Concur - Please add the ability to hide power data.  Seems like a simple request, why is strava not addressing?

  • On my wishlist for 2018... Strava, please solve this important issue. No special treatment for Pros, they are able to hide the data...

  • Might want to put that on your wish list for 2020...

I posted on this loonnnnggggg support 'issue' years ago and have seen only one response from Strava. I would venture to say it is not an 'issue' in their eys, don't expect any movement on this as there is no pressure on Strava to do anything. just go with it or change products.

  • I also would like to hide my HR-info for other people. Hopefully strava makes it possible in 2018.

  • The main benefit I am getting from Strava are the routes I can download from users of the area I'm not familiar with. As a pay back I also want to share my routes with the community, but would like to keep my other data private. Strava still didn't make it possible, thus I keep all my rides private. When riding in a group I always upload via Fit File Tool. Due to the fact Strava treat us as the animals in the ZOO I've also cancelled my Premium subscription and since Strava is not my prefered training diary. Instead I've started to use Trainingpeaks. btw. much better for training purposes..Dear Strava team, I don't know why you are doing this, but you are losing paying customers.

  • @ Igor i that's one reasion why I have quit. I can use other tools to analyse the data. I used live-segments some time ago but latest since I have a powermeter I did'nt touch this feature neither. Heatmaps are nice but there are also other tools. And for sharing the tours we made with others we can also use other platforms like komoot (it's only displaying GPS, altitude and speed). So no need for strava at all.

  • Eric, the health data is collected with or without the activity show this datas. The problem is the privacy of our data to the other people, even because we agree with the policies of the application to use it. But I want to see this in little time.

Ps.: This site offers a way to remove this datas (https://www.fitfiletools.com/#/top)

  • Would like to have the ability to make the heartrate data private. I’m riding in a team and it’s not that interesting that other riders can see when and where you had hard times on the bike. It can give them verry important information that they can use the following rides... maybe as an extra feature for the premium members???

  • Yep just had a ride with a crazy power meter reading - meter was off by over a thousand watts for 10 minutes or so, my Fitness/Freshness chart is now useless if I want to use power data, if I could just press a button and strip off a sessions power data that'd fix it. I went googling and now here I am.

Can't be that hard can it?

I am not going to accomodate workarounds, because an even easier workaround would be to just move my training management to a different platform.

  • Health related data is important to us as Strava users, but as an EU citizen that is private data. Strava needs to be able to collect data such as Heart Rate in a private way, and to be able to do so is important. To only offer the option to not have Strava collect Heart Rate data as an alternative to collecting and keeping that data private for personal use is just nutz.
Strava, please provide the feature to tag heart rate as for personal use so that data does not have to be public or available to others in order to be collected for ones own private use.

  • My new watch has an optical wrist sensor, which can be very inaccurate sometimes. I just want this data gone if I see it is not accurate, since every statistics that rely on HR will be inaccurate as well. Unfortunately, the watch has no option to strip this data before synchronization with Strava. Aside from privacy standpoint, this is another valid reason for implementing this feature.

  • very interesting. why hide HR/Power, personal data? ever heard of HIPAA? do your research and see if you can figure it out....everyone else has, i dont want my health data up on the internet for all to see....many years have gone by and why has strava not provided an opt out health related privacy feature? strava is a social media platform!!!.....being able to see others data feeds the judging, competitive nature of the athlete (you) and your associated social media addiction. strava and you are a perfect match!!! just as instagram has filters and cheats, power, HR is stravas version of that.....remove those features and there goes the drip feed of strava social media addiction....for strava this means less revenue. pretty simple math there kiddies.

as mentioned previously, there are programs that you can use to filter sensitive data, but they dont work with auto upload feature, you have to manually strip it for every upload.

i have since set all my rides to private, and move my training to training peaks which is a proper training platform, if i want to social media, i use instagram, not strava. i will not renew my premium membership next year, unless they give me the option to NOT upload my health data.....and thats the way the cookie crumbles kiddies. LRRH.

ps - strava will most likely delete this (critical) post as they did my last one on this same subject back in may....oh the drama strava!!!....play nice kiddies!

  • I think, if Strava developers will not giving options for better privacy, this community will not living long!!! Why everyone on Strava must know, what is my HR and Power by 10% climbing?

Strava community is OK, but not irreplaceable. Give us options for better privacy!

  • Hi,

this is a requested feature from february 2014. Your answer ist from last years june.

Since last years may the fines and penalties of the GDPR are "active".

What do you think how long will it take to implement the possibility to hide special categories of personal data?

I'm sure, i don't want to have my HR in my public feed information.

  • I've contact the support center directly on this point, and they said that in would be analysed in the future, for future evolutions. Something like that.

    "Hello !

I would like to add some privacy to my published data, specially on the heartrate data.
I would like to publish my rides normally within any device I usse, and then before I made them public at pc browser, I would prefer to select a switchable option button bettween make my heartrate avaliable only for me or avaliable to followers or even avaliable to general public.
Is this a big change on your site, or is this already possible somehow...? I couldn't get anything configurable at that point.
    "

  • @Syntax Error,
On your PC it should be just below the Privacy Controls box

and if you are an iPhone user then it is within Privacy Controls, visible as "Hide heart rate data" when you save/edit your activity.

  • Seems not to be at all servers yet. And for me too, hiding the heartrate but not power is only half work done.

  • Hum, that looks much more like an option to not include health data and not an option to hide the data from other users. If so, why would one pay for premium? All of the analysis is based on this data and one reason so many want the option to protect it. (there are other very compelling reasons to protect this data)

Also, a beta tester that uses personal data, one data set and said data set that is incomplete indicates the priority of this issue to Stava. Very disappointing that this is being offered as the solution and saying this thread should be closed.

Denying Strava access to health-related data.Should you deny Strava consent to process and store this data, you will still be able to upload activities although health data will be removed.

    • We will notify you every time you upload an activity that contains health-related data so you can update your selection in order for Strava to collect and process this data on all future activities.
    • Past activities will still display health-related data such as heart rate. You can delete old activities that contain heart rate data if you wish.

  • Well done to you all at Strava! (feature added at last) the ability to hide the heart rata data on your activity is added.

"You will always be able to see your heart rata data, but you can choose to make this data private" is indicated in the app.

This is a huge HIPPA privacy item that is added. I didnt have this last week, and I seem to have it this week. I can edit activity in Android app and on PC and choose to hide heart rate data for that activity.

On PC; edit activity, and below Title, below Description in the Privacy Controls section you can now tick the 'hide heart rate' box.

On Android app (ver 89.0.0), you can Edit activity, and in the Privacy Controls section you can now toggle/slide the 'Hide heart rate' setting..
