Hide Start time of Activity to Followers

Attention to all those who exercise when others think that should be working!   Sometimes, I sneak out in the middle of the day - after I've done lots of work in the morning or accomplished a really big task.  But, my friends give me grief because they see activity start times in the middle of the day.  Consequently, I have ceased inviting others to follow me - all because Strava reveals my start time. I would love to expand my connections/followers, but I cannot.

So, I would like there to be an option on my profile to show/no show the time of the exercise to my followers. (it's on a variety of screens)

 - Note:  To those who think that hiding the exercise is the answer.  I do not want to hide my exercise, I want to do the opposite - I want to broadcast it - just not when I'm doing it!

I have no updates to share about this request, unfortunately.

Updates to the Feed are currently in progress which is why some of you have noticed that the activity start time is now shown on the mobile app as well as the website.

Your feedback has been noted and documented by our privacy team and we hope to be able to consider implementation of a hide start time feature. Until then, you can make any activities private to protect your privacy around start time.

  • Yes, I'm new to Strava, just a couple of activities published in my lunchtime, but I won't be publishing any more activities until it's possible to show date but not time. Otherwise - awesome app!.

  • This should be an easy function to add. It is my only gripe with an otherwise awesome app.

  • I have found a way of doing this, in about 10 steps and using 3 websites.  Have a look at the attached file for a guide as to how I did it.

  • +1 Exactly, a must have feature! Don't want to hide my efforts, just want to obfuscate the time of day.

  • I am interested in this as well - Strava drama.  Also don't want the bosses to see when I get a weekday ride in.

  • Hello moderator - could you actually not accept or post my previous comment or this one.  It would show up on Google with my name.  Thanks!

  • I couldn't agree more.  I work very flexible hours and am up way too early most of the time.  That being said, I occasionally run during the work day.  Please add a simple "hide time" feature to the app.

    Thanks!!!

  • I am a Premium Subscriber but rarely upload my rides as I do not want the time of my ride to be broadcast. Please add this feature ASAP so I may justify continuing my subscription.

  • Yes please add.  Thank you.  I'm thinking of using other apps because of this but would love to stay with strava premium.

  • HAhaha, i was searching for this feature, for the exact same reason. It's hard to get any work done with all these bikes in the way. This would also help me avoid the awkward explanation when I tell the slow guy I wasn't riding today, then have my ride show up right beside his... don't judge me.

STRAVA, Please make this a reality.

  • Just cancelled my Strava Premium subscription because of this... I referenced this issue as the reason for my cancellation in their questionnaire. Also contacted Strava support about this issue to see if they had a response, but didn't get a reply.

  • Hello everyone, my apologies in taking some time to respond.

Actually, this feature is already built into our Enhanced Privacy settings: If you have enabled Enhanced Privacy on your account, the time of day (and the bike you used) will be hidden from the activity page for non-followers

The easiest way to utilize this feature is to not have your boss/coworkers/judgmental friends follow you. I know that some of you would prefer to see this feature enabled even for your followers, so that part of this feature request remains. But, I want to be sure to communicate the features we currently have in place to hide the activity start time if you've enabled Enhanced Privacy.

Let me know if you have any questions, and here is a screen capture of what it looks like to you (left) and to a non-follower (right):

  • Thanks, Elle. Any idea if/when such a feature will be available, without the need for enhanced privacy or especially blocking colleagues? I occasionally run with colleagues and often ride to work... my colleagues and I follow each other, but we don't want to advertise the time of day we bike to/from work or when we take a mid-day "lunch run". There's a big distinction between the intended use of enhanced privacy and what we're requesting. Just looking to understand if such a feature is being considered in a near term release.

  • Hello Elle,

I still want the ability to block my start time for the same reason Peter and the rest of the folks here. I think Strava needs to start listening to their user base. This thread started over a year ago, and now we finally get someone from Strava to comment. This is a totally unacceptable level of customer support. Too many posts have gone un-answered for way too long in the past. I have even Tweeted out to your support team with no reply. Does anyone manage this community? I run a support forum at my job, and my SLA for customer response is 24 hours! I am a fan of Strava but your support/customer engagement leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Thanks for your response, Elle, but all you've done is hi-light features which are irrelevant to this discussion. I'll ask my boss today if he'll stop following me. thanks

Please add a feature to block the start time of rides.

  • I know there are some valid privacy concerns and a lot of vocal support for this feature on this thread. I apologize that Strava has seemed unresponsive to your concerns/requests, and I'll do my best to provide more updates going forward.

This particular feature suggestion is not currently planned for development, but we are scheduled to revisit our Privacy features this summer. I'll make sure this request is on the table when our Privacy features are discussed, and when projects are planned.

In the meantime please continue sharing your feedback. We appreciate it!

  • Having it blocked for non-followers is the way it should be, even without having the enhanced privacy settings on.  I want to have co-workers, boss, etc. follow, but not see start times.  Let's get it fixed alrady.
