Ability to Set Private Goals

I would like to have a "private/public" option for goals.  When I set goals I don't necessarily want anyone else to be able to see them.  Having goals is part of my training which I prefer not to share.

  • Wow.  This has been requested multiple times for 4 years!  And, it looks like there hasn't been an official comment from  since 2016.  I, too, would love this feature.  Better yet, (I know I am asking way too much) allow us to chase our goal time on live segments - instead of the QOM/KOM.  Oh, but that's probably too complicated (way more than privatizing goals!), so Iet's put this request on the back-burner until 2025.

  • Bump, I completely agree and was looking to post this same request. I would love to be able to set personal goals on my private segments as I don't want to bother other riders with segments popping up on their Garmins alarming them when they probably wouldn't ride the same segment/route. Plus I just want the results for my private use.

  • I finding it shocking that personal goals are displayed to all my followers.

This was raised in 2014 and it's now 2019 !!!!!!!!

I'm reasonably new to Summit and can only assume none of my followers use goals as I've never seen their goals posted.

This is great training option which is probably being avoided by many members.

YOU CAN DO THIS STRAVA, DIG DEEP, BE MENTALLY STRONG AND KEEP BELIEVING.  Or you could set yourself a goal..

  • I'm fed up with Strava ignoring this (and other issues) and have cancelled my Summit membership.

  • I may follow Derek J. (and never set a segment goal again until this is fixed).

Last time canceling Pro/Summit to undo the "PR achievement on first segment attempt" seemed to have worked. $$ talk.

  • Five years ago, privacy was not as big issue as it is today.  I was stunned to see my segment goal posted publicly on the Activity Feed.  Strava must think that more users will want Premium/Summit if they see their friends setting goals. If I delete the post, it also deletes the goal. Infuriating.  I am not looking forward to the ribbing I am going to receive from my riding buds.

  • Your comment falls completely on deaf ears. This thread is over four years old, Strava obviously does not give two shots about what it's users want or need. If they did this would have been fixed years ago.

  • I'm surprised and disappointed that after four years (five?) of cajoling, coaxing and sweet-talking, Strava does not recognize the importance of this feature and still hasn't developed it.  Perhaps, it is because of difference in worldviews between Strava developers/mgrs and Strava athletes/users.

I suspect the reason Strava has not implemented this feature is that there's a fundamental difference between Strava athletes/users and Strava programmers/mgrs.  Strava developers can't understand why someone would wish to keep training goals private since they grew up at a time and competed on teams when everyone received participation trophies.  In that world, everyone is equal, no one is allowed to standout, privacy is unnecessary.  Meanwhile, Strava athletes/users were competing in REAL races where there were REAL winners and losers.  And in that world, you keep your training goals private to beat your competitor.  In the REAL world, it's results, not effort, that matter.  I imagine some Strava participant/developers are beginning to see this as their co-workers' careers zoom ahead of their own.

However, if its cheerleading that is needed to motivate Strava developers then as Dave A writes, "YOU CAN DO THIS STRAVA, DIG DEEP, BE MENTALLY STRONG AND KEEP BELIEVING."

PS:  It must be said that those same Strava participant/developers have created a terrific product.  I'm just saying that perhaps they see the world differently and consequently this feature request is never prioritized and always falls below the line.

PSS:  Strava, as a workaround, I'm aware that on my Garmin Edge 520 I can individually select my PR as my goal on my ~20 starred segments.  However, that reverts back to your ranked list every time I update my Edge 520.

  • Completely ridiculous you can't change the privacy of any part of strava, with goals being among the top.

  • If this is not 'fixed' by the time my Summit subscription comes up for renewal I may cancel.  I do not want my goals publicly displayed

  • Can't do more than giving my support to this Development request, and hope this no-brainer one da actually is implemented by Strava.

  • Sooooo, you've got a regular stream of comments over YEARS saying to fix this and you won't.  This is a simple coding change (unless you write horrifically structured code).

Every time I try to do something new, I find strava has no common sense, no user-interface/features testing, and just throws features out that they decide we must do their way.

So, just another example of strava being out-of-touch and in their own, elite, know-it-all world.

  • Just signed up to Summit and added a goal for a couple of segments, was then shocked to see that they had been posted in the feed for all to see!

Googled to see if there was a way I could make them private and came across this thread.  I cannot believe that this feature is not possible on Strava, as others have commented, seems a no-brainer. That it has been an issue for 5 years is simply astonishing.  Seriously don't understand why this is the case.

Makes the whole Goal feature pointless - I wont now be using it.  There may be goals that I want to share, but most I would like to keep to myself thank you very much.

Strava, if you do read these posts, please fix.

  • Another valid request being ignored by Strava. This has happened to me in the past. I had initially asked for my "Summit" Membership icon not to be displayed. I want to use the features provided with it, not broadcast and brag about it. I just signed up and set up my goals - looks like I will have to unset them :-(
Looks like Strava won't care till they see an exodus and I hope that happens someday :-)

  • Since my last comment seems to have been censored, I will try again.

Privacy is a real concern, Strava.  Why not treat this request seriously and set a programmer to setting it up?  If other things can be made private on strava, then why not personal goals?

  • Yes, this option is definitively necessary.

    I find it self-evident!

  • Come on Strava developers, it can't be that difficult to add privacy for goals.  I'm even paying the premium for Summit.  Take a rest day and get this function added, let it be up to the athlete to decide the information they want private or public.

  • Come on Strava. 5 YEARS now and no reasonable response for why you won't implement this basic request.

Please please please consider setting yourselves a GOAL to get this done. It can be private!
