Triathlon Activity Type

There's a lot of triathletes who use strava and we can enter all our training data for swimming, biking and running.  But on race day, there is no way to effectively enter a triathlon!  How about adding that ability?

  • What gives Strava - you can do this nearly every where else.  How about just the ability just to link separate events together if you can't / won't sort out multipart activity??

  • I did a triathlon on Sunday, same issue. Strava is still dumb in front of such activity... I received some newsletter to try to explaim me how the kudos as changed (WTF !!! who need improvement for the kudos function ?) and still nothing for something so basic and available in the other social sprotiv plateform... so depressing... Strava wants to push their way of thinking without taking into account the voice of their users. That's a basic fault...

  • So this has been going on for 4 years now. What if everyone in this thread who has a Premium subscription simply canceled it until they address the issue? That's what I did last year. Haven't really missed Premium, if I'm honest. But would consider going back if this was addressed.

  • Yes good point Paul. I am not a Premuim customer (and will not as far as is basic functrion is not available in Strava). What we can do is also to vote for each comment. Then mechanically, this thread will be heavier than the others. It's what I just did with all the comments...

  • For me also the reason not to upgrade to premium. Waiting for al long time for the Apple Watch swimming function and Triahtlon update.

  • i will add another vote for a Triathlon update.  i just started doing tris and was really surprised to not see this functionality present much like garmin.  Even more surprising is to see a lack of communication whether good or bad from Strava regarding this.

    I need this feature.

(Garmin Connect is very well integrated.)

  • Lack of support if pathetic. I'll cancel my premium account as this hasn't been solved and Strava is not willing to solve it.

  • Hey Folks,

Our New Feature Ideas thread in the Community Forums is a place for athlete suggestions to improve Strava. We love big and small ideas. If you like someone else’s recommendation, vote on it or provide a comment of your own.

One thing to remember: just because something's popular doesn't mean it'll be implemented. Our forums are just one component of our decision-making process. While a ton of ideas are genuinely valuable, we need to be selective and balance our priorities.

    Thanks for understanding!

  • Oh good, another copy/paste from Strava support as they ignore another feature request that all of the other major fitness trackers have already. :\

  • He Jess......while I understand the need to be selective and balance priorities, over the last year I have seen nothing of value from strava in the way of features.....actually there is nothing new. Just a few tweaks here and there. No new features

Now this is a feature that has been requested on a regular basis, that other appliactions have as standard, that we were promised to look for something on before the end of last year but yet no communication on if it will be a feature or not......

This is a post started by a Strava employee 6 years ago....yes thats right SIX years

    https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208834717-Better-Multisport-Triathlon-support-and-features

It has 395 upvotes and 249 comments so people are interested

This thread alone has 146 upvotes......what else is needed

There are lots more requests for mutisport activities to be included...

What is needed is a definitive stance from Strava on where they are in relation to supporting multisport athletes?

  • Instead of ranting, I will try to be constructive.

Strava already supports swim, bike and run as activities. However most people record one long activity for their entire race. Combine this with the 'crop' functionality.

Now, when you mark an activity as Triathlon, why not expose something similar to the 'crop' function, to allow splitting the recording, then indicating the type of each sub-activity.

Basically this is a shortcut for "import, crop to swim part, save as swim, import, crop to bike part, save as bike, import, crop to run part, save as run". Which is tedious to say the least (besides, Strava won't allow you to import the same gpx multiple times).

  • I find this very frustrating. It just seems such common sense that this relatively basic feature (I mean garmin has had their triathlon feature for years) is missing.
But it's the fact that it should be a no brainier that Strava users will also complete triathlons, I mean come on its an app for tracking running, cycling and swimming!?
In the last FOUR YEARS since this post was written (and actually it's one of many on the same topic...) Nothing. No real updates apart from adding the ability to post generic activities... Oh and of course REMOVING the Instagram feature...
And all we get is a response from Strava representative "Jess" giving a highly dismissive: "just because something's popular doesn't mean it'll be implemented... While a ton of ideas are genuinely valuable, we need to be selective and balance our priorities."
Really disappointing lack of action for something that is clearly important to us users, and again just basic common sense given the very nature of the app.

  • Do Strava even add new features anymore? I would be surprised if our subscription revenue was invested in product improvements anymore, its just skimmed as profit. More and more peoe i know are switching to garmin.

  • yep - did my first tri today and I've recorded it as workout...would be great to have a tri activity which actually breaks into the different activities and transitions

  • Hello Shane B.

Unfortunately, TriAthles are shouting out to have this feature into Strava for years now... And Strava absolutely doesn't care! Strava is dead, no more money to develop such a small function. RIP Strava !

  • I'm going to echo the same thing EVERYONE is saying. I just signed up for my first tri and I expected my Garmin tri data to transition to strava like always. HOW IS IT YEARS LATER and strava hasn't added a function for ONE OF THE LONGEST STANDING COMPETITIONS OF ALL TIME?! this to me is crazy. This is really concerning. My watch is over two years old and even that can handle the function.

  • Agree, this drives me crazy. And like so many people here, my Garmin records my triathlons really well. Certainly this is one of the reasons why I have decided to not go onto Strava Premium at this stage... I figure if they can't provide some of this seemingly basic functionality, it's not worth paying for.

In saying that, I do use the Garmin News feed and connections which has it's limitations too. So it seems that we triathletes and/or multisport athletes are stuck with a weird 'hybrid' solution.

    Come on, Strava!!

  • Strava's support of swim activities is still lacking as they still haven't figured out a way to get HR data from Garmin, except for average HR, and then only in my iphone app, not on the web platform. That one has been on the wish list for years as well. Getting real triathlon support must surely be a stretch for them since they can't do anything as simple as getting the HR issue figured out. I cancelled Summit a few months ago and haven't missed it since. If I want detailed data I just use Garmin instead.

  • Let's all just ditch Strava and vote with with our keyboards for an alternative that does support multisport, e.g. Garmin Connect...

  • An app that is tailored to track swim, bike and run but doesn’t support the notion of a triathlon is a marketing and engineering miss. I have voted w my wallet - no premium service subscriptions w Strava.

  • Multisport support was promised 7 years ago.

I think it's fair to say it will never come... :(
