Option for swimming activities to be in meters, other activities in miles

An update: Strava now allows manual swim entries in yards or meters. However, the saved activity will still display the units according to your profile settings (kilometers/meters or miles/years).

If you are interested in viewing saved swim activities in a unit that is different than other activities, see this related post on allow different unit preferences per activity type.

  • I second this request- I have to manually enter my swim workout as miles (which requires converting yards to miles in a separate web tab), but then it shows up as yards, which makes no sense. Could you implement a drop-down so that we could choose the distance unit, e.g. yards, M, etc?

  • This would be a great feature if it was implemented. Although it takes little time to convert the data, it would just make the Strava experience that much greater.

  • Do those of you on this thread have your Strava account settings set to Miles/Pounds? Because, if you set your account settings to Kilometers/Kilograms then you will see swim data in Yards.

Or maybe this request is to have some sport types appear in metric, while others remain imperial?

    Thanks!

  • I'll +1 this request too! Can it really be that difficult?

  • I too would love pool swims to be in meters.  My pool is 25 meters long, which is 27.34 yards.

But my bike rides and runs are all better for me to be in miles.

  • this is so frustrating that there isn't am option for meters for swims. I use a garmin watch that measures in meters and laps but when you upload to starve its in yards. seems like I'm not the only one so come Strava sort it out please.

  • Hi, I'd also like to be able to get swims displayed in metres but running and cycling in miles. Is this something that Strava would consider implementing?

  • I agree with all above, pool swims show the pool length in metres so why not maintain the distance count in metres. Runs and Cycles in miles though for me still please :)

  • I usually swim in a 25yd pool, but just swam a few workouts in a meter pool. I recorded the workouts in meters but when I view the workouts they are shown converted to yards. I'd much prefer the workout to retain the measure it was recorded in. Summary totals should be converted to whatever the user default system is, but the workout should stay as recorded. Please

  • Please add option to choosr between yards and meters. My pool is 25 meters pool, just swam 80 lengths or 2000 metres but showing just over 2000 yards. :(

  • Please give the option to show Swim in metric and bike in imperial. This is a very long overdue fix Strava!

  • Can I add my vote for the above please! Miles for running / bike but METERS for swim not yards.

  • Thanks everyone for the feedback. It seems that other members in the community want to see custom unit preferences by sport type as well. We'll add this to our list of feature enhancements to look into.

  • Elle, thanks for the update.

I think however this has missed the mark for most users and moved the problem to another open thread. Like the users that want to view runs in miles and bike in km " allow different unit preferences per activity type." I think most here would like to view swim stats in say metres when their preference for other sports is in miles.

I guess most people swim in 25m or 50m pools so everything is based on multiples of these lengths

I will add my vote to the other thread, just disappointed this issue is still hanging

  • I’m with Phil Gibbs. In settings each activity should have its own separate option miles or km (yards or metres).

  • Can only echo 100% regarding the swim units.
Its a no brainer for a sports tracking app.
Km miles and meters option should be standard.

Its like avertising a full service bakery that just makes bread. And that it lol

Come on guys Strava sort it out.

  • I'm using Strava on my Android, and I don't see yards or meters for manual swim entry. Only miles or kilometers. What am I missing?

  • STARVA when is this seeing swim only in yards when uploading going to be resolved.
It works on Garmin just fine.
    What the issue ???

  • Is there a target for when this same feature will be rolled out to the Android app?

  • The Strava Android App provides only Miles and Km unit of measure distance entry for Manual Entries. For Manual Entries of Swimming workouts, it would be very useful to offer a K-yds unit of measure. While users would be able to enter workouts in multiples of 100yds only, it would be a much better option for users in yd pools than the current Mile or km units of measure.

  • Helloooo any one listening in strava HQ??? In settings we want seperate tabs for “unit of measure” for each discipline. This request has been in going for ages and nothing is happening.

  • As a cyclist/swimmer, this unit thing has been an issue for me. Kudos to Strava for allowing yards/meters input for swimming activities on mobile. That's a huge improvement. As a software guy (who's thought about applying to Strava, wink wink, nudge nudge), I don't see why global units preferences need to be used on each activity. If someone enters an activity in meters, that activity should remain in meters and not get translated to yards on the timeline. For ytd totals, sure, translate everything to a common unit per the user's preferences. But as a swimmer, I would rather see activities like 2500 yards, 2000 meters, etc. than 2500 yards, 2187 yards, etc.
