  • Please make a switch for disabling markers in map view.

  • Segment markers should not be turned on by default. I want to see the route clearly.

  • I agree with the original poster. Many maps are now so crowded with markers from overlapping segments that it becomes impossible to see the map itself. Perhaps at least hide the markers for segments I choose to ignore.

  • I've just given up using Strava and gone back to using Google's "My Tracks". In all honesty, the only thing Strava does better as far as I'm concerned is the way it displays the summary of my routes.

Once I've found time to export my tracks from Strava I'll be removing the app and deleting my account.

  • Such a useful, beautiful feature, please add. Even just as a settings option rather than having to add controls to the map. Anything to get rid of the markers that I never ever use.

  • This is my only real issue with the app. The segments are so trivial and dense that they hide the route; adding a global setting or a per-map setting to hide all segments would be great.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

  • They're  never going to fix this.  I just use the "Download GPX" and import any routes I'm interested in to RideWithGPS and review them there.  So long, Strava!

  • Come on Strava! This should be very easy programatically and is an essential feature!

See attached for another big ride ( 100mi ;) ) covered in useless pins

A crude quick-fix would be to replace the pin with a 1px x 1px transparent .png file until you guys actually remove the loop displaying segments.

  • We are still waiting for this very simple feature 18 months later…It would be so very easy to add a small "segment marker symbol" (that could be either active [orange] or inactive [grey]) in the top right corner - across from the "Done" button…I don't understand what's keeping them…utterly useless every time I want to show someone a route on the mobile app. Not a great first impression...

  • Actually, we've started work on this project and it's halfway there. We don't know when it will be released, but your feedback helps.

  • Elle Anderson, thank you for telling us about the work in progress. It's way overdue and will make the app even greater, with a small effort (as pointed out by Daniel H.). I can't quite understand why this has taken so long or why not more users / Strava staff can see what a big problem this is in the app.

But it's great that it is now finally being looked at and hope to be able to see/show my routes soon! Looking forward in anticipation...

  • I recently switched from Android to iPhone and interestingly the markers do not appear in the android version of Strava. At least not in the area where you review your route. The front page with the stats overview also shows the ave speed in the android version which I liked. After all its all about speed.

  • I've given up on the mobile Strava app.  Without the ability to turn these "pins" off it's completely useless.  I tried to show a new rider/colleague my recent local loop ride and there were so many "pins" that we couldn't see the road markings, intersection or major landmarks. There are these really REALLY hi-tech software routines known as "ON/NOT ON (some rubes refer to it as ON/OFF but you're above such simplicity -- it's obvious you wouldn't be bothered with such faff.

  • This has been fixed in the latest release! You can toggle individual segments as needed per map. Awesome and thanks for hearing and responding.

  • Turning of segment markers one at a time is VERY LITTLE improvement. Is there an option to turn them ALL off, or better still, just never have them on. I understand some people really like them, use them all the time, but others (like me who want to show cycling routes) just do not want to see them.

Is than an option? I have removed Strava from my phone and only want to re-install it if this option is there.

    Thanks,

    Les

  • Les - are you on the iPhone or Android app? On the iPhone app I see all segment markers OFF by default when viewing the map, with the ability to view them one at a time from the list.

  • Thanks Elle, I am on an Android, does anyone know if the app is the same (default /ability to turn ALL segment markers off)? I'd rather not re-install it just to test.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks a million for finally fixing this! I can now show friends and discuss the routed and clearly see the line…great work and nice that you listened to OP Ian C.'s new feature idea - and everyone else that chipped in!
