More Strava Challenges for Elevation

the Challenges that you propose (which i do as many as i can) are mostly distance based.  whild i do road bike and the miles are easy i also mountain bike and the miles are much harder.  the ele vation between the two is much closer.  ie a 20 mile loop on my road bike will usally be about 2000 ft climbing (dont like to run the flats) and a 10 mile mt bike should give me 2000 ft .  the time and effort are similar on these two examples where if i were to try to match the distances i then would be out there twise as long on my mountain bike.  Also,  elevation will challange some of the flatlanders to find some hills.  i look at some of the distance leaders (usally Florida) and they have no climbing at all.

thanks for your consideration and love strava as a whole!  It has made my hobbie more interesting.

  • Seems to me that Strava is geared more toward road bikers than mountain bikers. I say this because most of the challenges seem to be aimed at road bikers. I'd like to join more challenges, but most are distance - mountain bikers don't go nearly as far as road bikers so most of the distance challenges are hard to achieve as a mountain biker. The elevation challenges seem to be more doable for me.

  • I totally agree with you. Maybe it would be possible to create some challenges espacially for MTB. I ride only MTB and I have no chance to finish the most Stava challenges. This is really a pitty cause I would really like to do!

  • I'm in the same position. The distance challenges are just totally unrealistic for mtb riders. Scanning around the average mtb rider in the UK, appears to cover an average distance of 15-30 miles per ride. Some more and some less. Even a 15 mile ride could be a killer depending on terrain. If the file attached works, this is an example from my 27 mile ride yesterday, Severe wind, rain, ice slippery chalk and a 75metre hill that took me 20 minutes to get up! We need some realistic challenges.

  • Even as a roadie I'd like to see a monthly climbing challenge, equivalent to MTS but in metres climbed.

  • One thing with the challenges both Distance and Climbing..... I may forget to join them in the first few days of the month and may miss out on my first couple of workouts of the month, if I join a few days in (like I just joined on the 5th of April for the April climbing challenge) I've already missed out on a few of my workouts.  It's supposed to run from April 1 to April 30th.  I would like to see it automatically add your workouts from the start of the month.  Otherwise it's a deterrent to joining in if you happen to forget to join in the first few days of the month.   So I keep missing my chance!

  • Maybe the Stravathinktank could list a calendar of the forthcoming months challenges for those that want to complete all, or select from each months events. Strava could plan varying climbing challenges with different degrees of difficulty, published in advance. From "bonkers" alpinesque challenges to more achievable ones for casual riders. For example, maybe a 10,000ft /15,000ft challenge in a single ride  - riders from flatter areas could plan a trip to a hillier region. Maybe a weekend challenge ? or simply stick with the current cumulative challenges. Either way, the current format of climbing challenges are getting a little monotonous, and monotony is good for no-one

  • Let's get more (and bigger!) elevation challenges for runners as well! For more discussion, see this comment section: https://www.strava.com/discussions/challenge/403/posts

  • How about awarding combined distance/altitude badge where you have to keep your average meters climbed per KM above a certain figure, say 10mtrs/km, which would then ensure that athletes look for quality hilly rides over more simple flat routes.
You could have a minimum overall distance per month (say 500km) so to obtain the badge you'd have to do 500km with 5,000m+ of altitude

  • is it possible to create a "Super Climbing Challenge" for all athletes that have completed the 12 challenges that year? What I want to say is: in January, parallel with that month's climbing challenge, there could exist a "super Climbing" for everyone that completed that year's Climbing Challenges?
