Eliminating erroneous spiky data

We should be able to set upper limits on HR and power data values. For example I know my max HR and max power, but devices being what they are, sometimes spike way above these values. It would be really handy to filter these out to stop them tainting the training graphs and FTP figures.

  • Yes I know my HR max is not 220 but 168 thus huge variations, not only that but I know that I can't maintain 169 for 5 minutes cos I would be grovelling on the ground and gasping for air between chucks. :-)

  • This is really needed but I would suggest something like what goldencheetah does with a tool to find and edit erroneous data errors by hand.  It's pretty rare for a data spike to happen IME but it ruins my power curve when it happens which is unacceptable.

  • What does Strava Support say? Is there any work beeing done in that field?

  • We need this.  Had a power spike of 2052W for 1s and would rather have it normalized than cropping or deleting the ride.  One second of bad data shouldn't warrant this.

  • Agree with other users, functionality comparable to GC would be perfect, comparing data analysis between strava and GC it seems this is already there but not currently user adjustable as I've found several rides where I have had power spikes requiring fixing in GC but only once in strava but it ruins my best efforts power graph, and eliminating the power data would mess up my PMC.

  • +1 - the power spikes need to go. Either let us cap max power or nerf them by hand.

  • Has Strava corrected this?  I'm pretty sure I didn't ride at 8,000+ watts today.

  • Strava support seems to be studiously avoiding this issue..  I cannot fathom their attitude regarding what seems to be fundamental feature. The Best efforts power curve is meaningless due to the many spikes pushing up the 1sec section. It would also have an effect on calculating FTP.

So come on Strava, at least tell us why you are not actioning this.

  • Some basic functionalities to actually make Strava premium a real training tool. I have about 10 files that have one data point of 3000-7000W that need to be fixed. If I need to do it all in Golden Cheetah for free why pay for Strava?  This and the complete redo of my Training Profile when I update my FTP are unacceptable.  Add this to the story board.

  • FWIW, I've found a workaround the inaction from strava, since I can correct the power spike in GC simply export as a tcx file, delete the offending ride in strava and re-upload. if your like me and want to use the PMC in strava and best efforts curve this allows it to remain useful.
