Stop notifications on Activity comments

Currently, if you comment on an activity you will receive a notification for every subsequent comment on that activity by anyone else. As you can imagine this can get pretty boring. For example, Niki Terpstra's famous Paris-Roubaix Strava upload has 542 comments to date, so the first commenter would have received 541 notifications!

To get rid of this, it would be great to see an "unsubscribe from notifications" button for commenters. Facebook have implemented a similar function and it works nicely.

  • yes, this is silly that this is not a Strava option already. i have gotten some 500 emails to my phone and computer and i cannot find my comment to remove. i will NEVER comment on another Pro Rider's ride again until Strava gives the option to turn off notifications... now back to deleting emails :(

love Strava, but may cancel my Premium Membership until this gets escalated and made an option.

  • Thanks for the feedback! This is something we've been talking about internally. We hope to create a simple button on the comment feed to "unsubscribe". Stay tuned!

  • ohhhh....I've been caught as well.
Lesson Learnt - never comment on a pro-riders activity :(

I've had to setup a rule within my email client to auto-move the incoming emails to trash automatically....may help others in the same boat to do this.

  • Deleting the comment is likely a quick solution, although I support the additional feature.

  • I made the kistake of congratualting Kurt too... :)

Now suffering from an absolute deluge of comments - this needs to be fixed.

  • ...I also made the mistake of typing this on a phone first, hence the spelling of a ten-year old :)

  • Adding a token "why isn't this an option 2 years down the line?" response. It's one of the most annoying things about Strava and a big reason I seldom comment on friends runs.

  • 2 years old?? Come on Strava! It shouldn't even be an ask at this point

  • Yes, this really needs to be fixed. Most annoying thing of Strava.

IN you profile settings it also says: Email notifications -> When someone comments on one of MY activities.

But if you hit the unsubscribe button in the emails, it says:

You will no longer receive emails when athletes comment on your activity, or when athletes comment on an activity on which you have commented.

Please just split them up so you can choose.

  • I've hit the "unsubscribe" button for any/all notifications and they just won't stop. How do I get them to stop forever? I've got BILLIONS of email notifications.

  • Thanks everyone - sorry we don't have a better temporary solution. I agree that it would be helpful to make Strava's notification settings more granular. However at this time you can only disable email notifications for all comments, those on your activity and those in reply to your comments on other's activities.

This is still on our list, but no progress to report.

  • How do I stop email notifications?? I don't care whether they are 'granular' or not. I just need to find the disable function!!

Please post an explanation as to which menu item I need to look for.

(I realise the irony in that by posting this, I will just get more spam as people respond below this comment)

  • Hello,

Please take look at this. It is really bugging when you give kudos to some amazing achievements that goes viral... The stream of comment notification is endless!

  • Yes, please make this change. I DO want to know when someone comments on one of my rides. I do NOT want to know when someone comments on a ride that I commented on. These are very different scenarios and deserve separate settings.

  • Well this is rubbish. Come on strava... I highly suspect that I am about to be inundated with several hundred emails... Such a simple this to implement.

  • I resorted to deleting my comment, not ideal, but better than nothing. Only way I managed to do this is via the app, hunt down my comment and swipe/delete it. Hope this helps.

  • Please fix this!  I'm not writing another comment on someone's activity until this is implemented...the notification is killing my phone!

  • To take this long to fix a software issue is ridiculous, I'm a programmer.  Unsubscribing from Premium and never commenting on another rider's ride again.  BTW what's a good alternative to strava that has segments and your/your friends times. I don't care about koms or qoms.

  • 1 simple feature needs 3 years to develop?

  • Ok I've had it with the complete lack of responsiveness of the Strava developers.  Time and time again I see what should be simple software changes (I'm a developer) hanging around in 'wish lists' for years.  I've cancelled my premium subscription until I start seeing some action from your developers.
