Strava for Kids - Adapted for students in PE Class

Create an app for students to use to record their physical activity outside of PE class. Perhaps the app can allow students to join their class or school in tracking their progress to a goal, either individually or as a group. Perhaps it can include physical activity such as cycling, walking, and running but also strength activities such as push-ups or sit-ups (find a way to record that on phone). Once students are able to record their progress, then maybe teachers or classmates can give them 'kudos' or some type of positive feedback (similar to a high five in class). I really like the positive feedback involved already, such as 'kudos' and 'medals.'

One current challenge is that a program or app needs to be created for kids to use that it internet safe and promote 'digital citizenship' so that principals, parents and other teachers approve it. There are a lot of possibilities in a Strava for Kids app that allows them to record fitness and activity as well as give/receive positive reinforcement from classmates. Is there anything created like this on Strava right now?

  • Hi Jessica - I'm based in the UK, researching something similar at the moment. I don't work for Strava - but would love to know if they ever got back to you?

  • I'm currently making a club in Strava. Later on I'll have my students make a personal account and they'll be invited to join my club.

I have made a segment on my school's playground. Over there the students will be able to compete against each other to become KOM or QOM on that one segment.

I'm hoping to make them eager for sports. Maybe they'll be triggered to go running or do other sport when they have a competition amongst friends.

It's my brother in law who showed me how to do this. Hopefully it works!
