Enter custom distances for "Best Efforts"

HI, along with many other members, I'd like a much more flexible way to track my best efforts and it occurred to me that they could (for a large part) be handled the same way as segments, in that:

* Any run that goes over a "best effort" distance should list the best effort as part of the run, with 1/2/3 gradings as appropriate

* It should be possible to create my own best effort distances, so that if I start doing triathlons or need to track my 18.5km efforts I can add any distance I want as a best effort distance.

* It should be possible to classify a best effort as being for a run or for a ride

* The Strava team could add some standard best effort distances that would be tracked for everyone's activities (that went longer than the distance)

* There could be a "best effort" menu item on the left of the activity detail page, directly under segments

* There could also be a "best effort" page that listed the different best effort distances (standard and my own) so that I could see all my "run 1km" times linked to their activities

* While I'm recording an activity, strava (premium) could, using "real-time best efforts" tell me about a new best effort.

In fact, the only real differences between segments and best efforts are that segments have a specific start/end point; best efforts are "virtual" and could occur not just from the start of the activity but any time during an activity.

I noted the following suggestions that could be addressed by having best efforts handled similarly to segments:

  • I fully agree, I'd love to see a leaderboard tracking my best efforts across set distances, rather than just getting a notification that I ran a top three best time

  • Good solution Steve, seems logical and would certainly be great functionality from a user standpoint. I would upgrade to premium for this.

  • I agree a leaderboard would be great.

  • This would be great for tracking -- having a "leaderboard" page with my best 10K efforts (or whatever) and tracking the dates and times would be ideal. Heck, make it a "premium" feature and I'd sign up. :-)

  • I to would really like to see a ranking of my top times for distance. Top 3 20 km times for example.

  • Great idea, would love to be able to track and visualise historical progress for 5k / 10k / half marathon etc.  In the same way that on a bike segment you can see all of your attempts at that segment over however many years you have used strava.

  • I raised this suggestion a while ago and have since found Veloviewer (http://velowviewer.com), which pulls my Strava data and provides a whole bunch of views, comparisons, charts etc. I can thoroughly recommend it.

  • Of course that should be http://veloviewer.com/ :-)

  • Almost two years on, why is this such a difficult point to address Strava? I don't think that any of the points raised are unreasonable.

  • I still use Strava, but after frustration at this point, I am a "Pro" (paying) user with SmashRun http://smashrun.com/ which, by default, shows best efforts for each distance both in your profile and in a given run (e.g., I can see that my long run was my 3rd best 11-mile performance).

I can sync data from Strava using FitnessSyncer (http://blog.smashrun.com/fitnesssyncer-integration/)

  • Stop dreaming, Strava will never develop features we expect.
