Include all Activity Types for features like Suffer score, heatmaps, and Segment Achievements
A couple of weeks ago I found a few cycling segments in the middle of an area with plenty of wetland/bogs, where we wouldn't expect anyone to cycle unless they have a fatbike. Everyone on the leaderboard had done the segment in winter time.
I asked the people on the leaderboard whether their activities were actually cycling (as they had tagged it) or whether it was cross-country skiing. In only one out of 11 cases it was cycling (fatbike). In all the other 10 cases they had tagged it as cycling even though it was skiing.
So I asked them why they didn't tag it as skiing. Some of them didn't know it was possible (since it hasn't been available in the app until recenty), but six of them told me that they tag all skiing activities as cycling - on purpose! Because otherwise they wouldn't get any heatmap, suffer score, achievements, statistics etc.
Of course I told them to select the correct activity type and instead tell you (Strava) to "upgrade" nordic skiing to a real activity with statistics, segment explorer, suffer score and heatmap. But we told you several years ago, and you are too slow, so they don't bother. They are thus filling up your database with wrongly tagged activities!
I've told them to start using VeloViewer to get statistics from skiing (even when properly tagged), but it doesn't offer them the other features...
So Strava, are you aware of this? That you are building up a pile of wrongly tagged activities, just because people want the features you've only allowed for running and cycling?
Please do something about it!
I don't understand why it should be so difficult for you to offer the same features for other activity types. Most likely it would be easier for you to implement all activities in the same way, instead of developing separate methods for each activity type...
